A lovely site in a genuine and pretty small town or large village on the river, only a 10 minute walk away with small Casino supermarket and all the usual independent shops for basics. The pitches are all of a very good size and clearly separated although no hedges. The river runs right by some of them, and you can access it directly from these, or from the path that runs through the campsite next to the river. It is quite fast flowing but only knee to thigh deep so perfect for messing about in rubber boats (not real swimming) or putting a chair into and reading a book. Canoes go past all the time.
The loos/washing areas are clean although not spider proof, but plenty of them and the showers have hand held heads, which hook up (ie not fixed to wall permanently). Plenty of hot water. And looroll!
There is ping pong (2 tables), a tiny bar with seating outside with internet (free).
The area is extremely friendly -we visited the Puy de Dome, Vichy and pretty villages all around - we found plenty to do for the 6 nights we stayed and we have teenagers.
British owners who are very cheerful. Home cooked meals can be ordered. Bread van visits every morning inc weekends.
Mainly Brits and a few Dutch with some overnighters as not far from motorway.
Would highly recommend this if you want a quiet site for relaxing and just messing about in peaceful surroundings in a beautiful area. We visited late August and it was half empty by then.

Heading north we found Camping de la Filature in the Alan Rogers Guide and turned up around 3. 30pm. Reception was closed and a sign asked us to pitch where we wanted and pop back to do the paperwork when they re-opened at 4. 30. No problem and being pretty quiet, we bagged a pitch by the river with power and made ourselves comfy. I went back up to reception a little later and was greeting by Jane, the owner, who made us most welcome and explained whilst they had no restaurant, would we like tonights take away - beef bourguignon? Yes please! So it was booked for 7. 30 and when I went back to collect, Jane served it up with potatoes in a warmed earthenware dish to take back to the 'van. We served it up and it was delicious and just what we needed after a days travelling. Absolutely brilliant!
The site is very peaceful and everything has a well worn feeling - rather like a pair of slippers. But you need to take the loos and showers with a pinch of salt although the water is hot and they are clean. Up at reception, Jane has a small shop with basic supplies and there is even a fabulous little bar to slake your thirst. Access to this site is easy off the A75 and it is a gem. Highly recommended.

Used this site a few years back as an overnighter going to and coming back from Spain as so close to the Autoroute. All the facilities were fine and the site was delightful would certainly use again.
The only slight problem I had was we had pitched close to the river which was idyllic during the day and dusk time, however, during the quiet of night the water running over the little weir really unsettled my sleep, but on the plus side when I eventually gave up trying to sleep in the tent and got up to try and get some sleep in the car I looked up at the night sky to see the most glorious star filled sky I have ever witnessed. That night has and will be one of my lifelong memories, just amazing.

I've visited this site twice, both times in high season with four children aged 8 to 12 using the sites good value mobile home accommodation.
The location is idyllic, hills surround with the river which is usually safe for kids to play in or swim being the centre of the campsite, if visiting bring you're inflatable boat/rings and some sandals for walking on rocks and prey for good weather. Ive been blessed with hot, up to 40c, weather on both my visits.
There's a pleasant play area and lovely bar which has a good value happy hour.
Children have always found/made lots of other friends here as there are a high proportion of Brits visiting.
Toilet facilities are adequate but being in a mobile I've not tried the showers.
Owners are English, very traditional friendly lady but gentleman owner could do better. Telling the kids to shut up when playing at the play area not acceptable to English sensitivities?
Always quite at night after 11ish if away from the bar. All in all a gem that would benefit from new owners.

We spent 7 nights at this site during August and were very pleased with our choice. Despite it being busy it was very quiet and peaceful. We had a pitch next to the river without electricity but there are pitches with electricity - these tend to be bigger and are bordered by hedges. The site is owned and run by a British couple who were helpful and friendly.
There is a (quiet) bar on site (happy hour 21:30 - 22:30) and the reception sells basic provisions (including cold beer and wine). They also do take away meals, the downside being that you have to order these in advance. We did this one night and the food was fine but not amazing. We were told that people go there specially for the food which I found surprising. The toilets were ok and regularly cleaned, they are in individual cubicles and rustic as pointed out in other reviews. They do have cubicles with double sinks and plug sockets in with huge mirrors which meant I could dry my hair - a luxury when camping. Despite it being the busiest time of year we could always have a shower when we wanted and the water was nice and hot.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, we did some canoeing down the river and drove to the volcano region. The surrounding villages are very pretty and there is a nice drive along the river. It seems less touristy than other regions of France we've travelled to and we found eating out to be relatively cheap. The town (Ebreuil) is a 15 min walk away - it has a small supermarket, several bars and restaurants and a take away pizza place. A short walk from the campsite into town you come across the river swimming area which has picnic tables and a big grass area to sit on. The river is still quite shallow at this point so safe for children. It is possible to paddle in the river (and fish) at the campsite but the river is even shallower there.
Overall we were impressed and would definitely consider returning to this site.

Picked this one out of the ACSI site book, by virtue of its number of stars. Beautiful site in a lovely region, with many leisure activities nearby. But bathroom facilities a great letdown; neglected, shabby and inhabited by a variety of nature's little creatures. 'Rustic', as described by earlier reviewers, is a euphemism. I expected better and would have stayed longer if they'd been half way up to scratch. Noticed in a number of French campsites they had not been spruced up for the summer season even though it was days away at the time I visited. Sadly, I wouldn't return there.

We spent one night on this site on our way down south and 3 nights on the way back. We had a very friendly welcome on both occasions with lots of information on the local area. The site is fairly flat with sun and shaded pitches, some are next to the river and some in an open field. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The toilets and showers may be a little rustic as pointed out in another review but they were very clean and we never had to wait.
There is a small bar and take away, the homemade chicken pie was excellent.
My teenage kids found the river fun with inflatables etc and there was table tennis, boules, mini golf. The staff also helped us to book canoes a short way away. There was plenty of room for playing games and we never felt crammed in. There was a small play area for younger children.
The local village is about 15 minutes walk with a few small shops, but the nearest biggish supermarket is about 10km. The local area seems very interesting and we will be returning to this site.

Visited this peaceful well kept site for one night as a stopover on our way to Boucanet this spring. Drove from Calais (9am) and arrived about 6pm where we were greeted warmly by the English campsite owner who shook all our hands and made us feel welcome.
We were allocated a pitch by the river (as requested) which was level, grassy and dry (although they had been very damp earlier in the month we were told). We had a walk around the site after a meal and found it be very pretty, and well cared for with pitches in two areas, one side amongst the tress and the other in a more open field. Both sides were lovely.
The showers and loos are in converted outbuildings and although a little rustic! They are very clean and functional, the showers were especially welcoming, warm, powerful and roomy.
Would use this site again and maybe stay a little longer next time as the surrounding area is stunning, the hill drive to the nearest supermarket was like a film set.
Only one negative to report, very low wattage electricity supply, kettle tripped it, travel hair dryer tripped it etc etc. Bit of a pain but not the end of the world really in the grand scheme of things.

Enjoyed our stay here early July 2006. The site is close to the Paris – Clermont Ferrand A71 Autoroute and less than 1 km from thevillage of Ebreuil making it ideal for both short and long stay. It was well run, reasonable quiet even when busy, peaceful site set amongst trees next to the River Sioule. It has good sized pitches with plenty of space for the kidsto unwind. The river is clean, shallow and does not flow too fast and is idealfor paddling and canoeing. Although the toilet block is not the most modern the fittings are mostly new and comprehensive and cleaned regularly. The facilities were adequate for the number of pitches. There was a plentiful supply of hotwater with adjustable taps - no push button here. We found Jane, John and the rest of the staff to be friendlyand helpful with a wealth of local information. We had many interesting tripsout including Vichy, the nearby chain of extinct volcanoes and the manyinteresting local villages. This is a good area to tour by car, bike or on foot. Jane's excellent value, good quality and varied takeaways are just what's needed after a long drive and encouraged us to stay longer. We will definitely be coming back again in the near future.

Stayed here in June 2005 for 11 nights. Owners English and a little aloof but not unpleasant. The site was fairly quiet given the time of year and we had a pitch down by the river which was great due to the heat as we just went for a wallow whenever we got too hot! Terrific area with beautiful scenery - we went canoeing just up the road and had a fantastic time. The absolute clincher for us was the meal deal which we stumbled across by accident but for 20 euros a night we had our pitch and a meal for two. The food was fantastic, all home cooked and dishes such as trout, duck, steak - we did not dislike any of them. Our only extra was the EHU. We went to the Puy De Dom and Mont Dore and visited Volcania which as the name suggests is a centre with interactive exhibits explaining about volcanoes. The wildlife was brilliant with numerous birds of prey, we also saw deer and foxes in the local woods in the evenings. The loo block is very old and full of cobwebs but cleaned daily and never had to wait to use them. Surrounding villages pretty and easy drive into Vichy. We look back now with fond memories and would return as we don't want bars and entertainment so a quiet site where we are just left to get on with our holiday suits us down to the ground. The bakery van calls most mornings too.
