A beautiful setting to camp in. 30 acres of woodland in the Lake District. We spent 2 nights in one of the eco pods - only 3 of them so we had lots of privacy.
Once the new facilities block is finished in a few weeks this will be a perfect campsite! Unfortunately for us the new block was not finished. I had to endure a freezing cold shower on one of the mornings in a not very nice block although I did find an electric shower with hot water later. The new block will have 5 unisex showers and separate male / female loos and a washing up area.
Rydal Hall is on different tiers and you never feel overcrowded. We were lucky with the weather - it was sunny & warm & we could do nothing but relax.
Ambleside is 30 mins walk away with shops and restaurants. There is a pub about 5 mins walk on main road. Plenty of walks on the doorstep.Teashop on site. A visit here is a must!

This was our first time to this site and all I can say is WOW!
We could only book two nights as they were fully booked on the Saturday. We had to go to another campsite for the Saturday and lets just say we were somewhat disappointed after spending two fantastic nights at this site.
The toilet and shower facilities were a little basic for a couple of us, but very clean and tidy. They are building a new shower block that is going to be open mid May, and looks a very spacious building - very impressive, as shower blocks go of course.
The views are just magnificent with the staff all saying you have free rein to walk around and see the magnificent waterfall, bridge, tearoom and the hall itself. You must go and have a look at the hut at the bottom of the waterfall. Thanks to lady we met, if you sit on the left as you go in the hut, you get the reflection of the trees behind against the waterfall - WOW! Could sit there for hours.
A visit to the tearoom is also a must. Cream tea was £3.75 and would have paid more. Sit outside if you can and look at the waterfall and enjoy a marvellous cream tea.
The camping patches are very flat. A little rocky underneath so make sure you have decent pegs.
I could go on forever, so in conclusion I would say you have to go hear it is one of the best sites we have ever been to by far.

I thought this was a lovely site. A perfect position, close to Grasmere and ideal for short walks as well as long hikes. The location can't be bettered: just close to Wordsworth's house at Rydal Mount, up a short drive away from the main road. Rydal Hall is a lovely place itself, and you are free to wander around the gardens and see the famous falls. The staff there were really welcoming, and there's a lovely tearoom too. Top marks here for location, friendliness, and value for money - although the facilities are a bit basic on some levels, this is generally a very laid-back site which is good for children and a nice budget Lake District choice.

This site has lots of potential. The pitches are pretty flat, and when we were there it was generally very quiet at night despite being busy. We loved the fact that the site is a half hour walk from Ambleside, we didn't move the car all weekend, which was just as well as it was August Bank holiday and the roads were packed. There is a bus stop on the road outside the Hall so you can get into Ambleside and Windermere for links to the rail network etc.
There is plenty for children to do, there is a good adventure playground and the grounds themselves are worth spending an afternoon on, and there is a teashop and a gallery. There are lots of great walks from the site as well.
The downside for us was the toilet facilities, (which are to be rebuilt during the winter). There was a problem with hot water during our stay, which meant that the showers were cold and there was no hot water for washing up on two days. When the hot water was working, the showers were very basic but adequate as long as the site wasn't too full. At the moment, it isn't posh camping by any means, but I think we may be back when the new loos are in.

The staff here were very friendly and really put themselves out for you. Situated just North of Ambleside this is a great location with plenty for children and families to do. The hall provides lots of information - including weather forecasts and has a nice cafe/Tea room within the site. Within about five minutes walk is a nice old-fashioned pub where the beer prices are reasonable and there is a pretty decent food menu.
On the down side, for a site this large, the ablutions are pretty poor. In the old toilet block are two toilets, two sinks and one shower on each of the male and female sides with a further three shared portoloo type of showers close by and only one sink is provided to wash utensils Hot water is free however on my first morning, the water- including cold - quickly ran out.
Overall this could be a great site but let down by toilet and shower facilities.

Fabulous weekend! We couldn't take our kids from this place!
Amazing location, clean toilets and showers. A lot of space.
We stayed just for two days (wasn't enough), but seen so much around (not everything what has been planed)
Dont need to keep eye on kids, because its safe to leave them just to run around.
Definitely recommend it to anyone.
Will be back to this site again!

We stayed for 4 nights in amazing sunshine - and what a site - a gem in the lakes at an amazing price in a amazing location.
Yes the toilets are old but they are clean there is dishwashing / toilet / shower facilities what more do you need.
They do not pack you in - they give you space to enjoy a amazing site with views to die for - staff very friendly we enjoyed the shade of the forest and the cool waters of the river where you can paddle or swim. There are so many things to do here cant list them all. They have yurts now which I noticed they hadn't updated the web site - and low cost !
There is a direct walk from the site into Ambleside - lovely.
Had a nice snooze in the hammock and heard cuckoos, green woodpeckers, owls and the list goes on - we loved the family of sheep who trim your lawns in front of you - excellent touch ! total peace.
Asked our 7year old daughter was there anything she didn't like and her answer was 'coming home'. !
Will return.

For the first time ever stayed in a 'pod' - essentially a wooden 'tent'. Had a really good time - small pods easily big enough for three adults and came into their own during lakeland showers.
The site was very nice and the staff friendly. The local pub (the Badgers Bar) served good food both in quality and value. It was a short walk to the facilities over uneven terrain so I would recommend people take a good torch with them.
The hotel on site is run as a spiritual retreat and the lack of on site food or bar means this is not the place to go if you want some 'night-life', however for those wanting relaxation in peace and quite this is a perfect site.
Overall a lovely, picturesque site.

Site set in nice area, but then again it is cumbria and most sites offer excellent views. Pitches flat but stony, very difficult to place pegs. Sheep wandering around site, but we and the children liked them, and had no problems with them.
Staff quite helpful and managed to squeeze us in even though we had not booked. Site is due for a new shower toilet block, which it needs. Toilets, sinks and showers were well below what we expected [especially at the price]. One shower and two toilets per sex,one outside sink, no hot water all weekend [cold enough to make both our children cry - we used baby wipes to clean them after 1st shower]. This spoilt our short break.
We would not return unless facilities improve.
Finally several green or white plastic insulated camping 'pods' on site, I felt these spoil the site and views. That may just be me though, people staying in them seemed to like them.

A great location about 15 mins walk (with kids) to Ambleside, and a really warm welcome from the staff. The site's also on a bus route between Grasmere / Keswick and Ambleside.
We all loved this site (2 adults, one age 6 one age 2 - and it was our first time camping together).
There are two main fields quite close to the shower block, plus an annexe. We were on the annexe - basically the side of the hill with a few spacious pitches cut into it. It was a beautiful place to pitch, more rustic than glamorous.
There's a children's playground on the site, as well as a few yurts and huts dotted about (for rent).
The showers & washing facilities were a bit basic, but I think they were in the middle of building a new block when we were there.
There's also a cafe at Rydal Hall, but we didn't try it.
We'll stay there again, and we'd ask for the annexe again, too.
