Just returned from camping at Dernwood Farm. I agree with all the reviews, great campsite for back to nature, wild camping.
I would recommend taking as little as possible, the walk to the campsite is a bit of a trek, especially if you have to do a few trips. The walk to the loo is a bit of a trek too if you are at the other end of the field. If your fit no problems ;-)
Overall a great place to camp and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (if a little worn out)

Amazing. Beautiful. I almost don't want to post a review so it stays the same. Quiet and wonderful. Facilities almost non-existent but that's the beauty of the site, simple and natural as much as possible.
Can't wait to visit again and the children just loved it! Amanda is a great host too. Must buy the farm produce, wonderful and 0 road miles travelled!

Fantastic campsite with proper campfires. No allocated pitches, just find a spot with a fire patch. Priced by the person with no extras for awnings etc.
Spent 4 nights there and had the 8.5 acre field almost to ourselves on 2 nights. They were apparently full on the weekend but there was masses of space and no one pitched closer than 10 to 20 m.
There is a 5 minute walk through the woods from the car to the camping field. We did get the trailer down it but it was boggy and hard going. This is a site where is pays to pare down the excessive equipment.
The owners take a hands off approach and we only saw them once when they were collecting wheelbarrows from the field to take back to the car park. The log pile operates on trust and they ask that you only take one level bread crate per £5. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn't review this policy as one of the big groups at the weekend were letting their children fill up whole wheelbarrows with logs. There were also people taking firewood from the surrounding woodland despite being asked not to do so as it is unsustainable for the ecosystem.
1 flushing toilet in a shed at the bottom of the field. It was not cleaned while we were there but the loo is a bonus on top of the wild camping - we expected it to be the composting type rather than flushing. You need to take you own toilet roll. Next to the toilet is a tap with a short length of hose. Facilities wise that's it but it adds to the charm.
It's worth noting that although the field is surrounded by woodland the wind does whistle up the field and it is not particularly sheltered. There are also power lines going over the bottom part of the field but you only hear a hum when standing underneath them.
Can’t comment on the surrounding area as we just chilled out around the campsite. This is an excellent campsite if you want a taste of wild camping with the bonus of a toilet and safe drinking water. We will definitely be returning

Excellent site for roughing it - and great to get away from the big tents with TVs and all the fuss.
A good ten mins pushing of wheelbarrows along a muddy path through the dark woods. Not for the faint hearted or those that might want to wash off the mud or sweat! - no washing facilities.
The field is just that - a big field surrounded by woods.
A single loo in a small shed with a hosepipe on a standpipe are the facilities for everyone - easiest to do like the bears in the woods.
We loved it - but we like to get right back to nature.
The surrounding area - well - its 10 mins drive to Horam which has a small shop, Post Office and Chemist. And a chippy.

Just returned from today from a peaceful night spent at Dernwood Farm. We were pleasantly surprised with the cost, which is per person with no extra Tent pitching fee.
There is a 7 min walk through woods to get the the massive camping field. Loads of wheel barrows are supplied in the smaller field where you park up, so no problem ferrying stuff down to the field.
Logs for the fire are supplied by the site at a reasonable £5 per (large) bread crate. What a joy cooking over an open fire! There was also a toilet (clean) down at one end with mains fed tap for water.
Perfect ;o) I will be back and hope to sample the farms produce in future!

We have just returned from a long weekend of really wild camping at Dernwood, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
The car parking area is a field near the entrance to the farm, there is a 10 minute walk through the woods to the camping field. The field is massive; even despite the fact that the site was 'fully booked', there were about 80 people altogether and there was still 30 metres between each group of people. It really did not seem busy at all.
There is a single toilet and water tap located at one end of the field, at the other is a wooded area (where you can also camp) and the log pile. Fire pits have already been dug and covered over, so its just a case of collecting some dry logs and building up the fire.
The site was very family + child friendly, with lots of family groups, they were all nice people who were very sociable.
I would strongly recommend that you purchase some of the farms' produce - they can provide fresh eggs, bacon, steaks, burgers and sausages all sourced from the farm. We had one of everything! I can honestly say that the food was of the highest quality that I have ever had the pleasure of eating, and really tastes good when cooked on a camp fire.
My overall recommendation is that this is one of the best campsites I have ever visited, and would suggest to anyone to use this site if you prefer a bit of wild, not mild camping.

Wow! Camping just as it should be : wild, back to nature.
Just returned from camping with my godchildren at Dernwood Farm and we had a great time (apart from the weather). To get to the campsite you have to walk about 10 minutes through the well-signposted woods. Then there is this huge field where you can pitch your tent anywhere you like. There were one or two other families there, and its great for children and dogs.Logs are provided and there is lots of small firewood in the woods to get your real campfire up and running. Water is also available. A map is provided of the woods/land you can ramble though with the boundaries clearly marked.
Amanda, the owner, provided us with fresh eggs and there was also meat available. She also recommended the Six Bells pub nearby for beer/food. We went! Excellent too, but make sure you get there before the rush at lunchtime as it was packed.
It you want wild camping this is the place! A real family atmosphere.

We were the first to book this new site but a few people had already arrived by the time we turned up. This was a very basic site - no loos at all or showers - but in a lovely location. It was peaceful as promised - although we did have some noise from someone's music until 2.30am the first night which I wasn't too chuffed about - but it didn't happen again.
The best thing about our weekend was being able to have a camp fire. When it started to rain we were able to set up a bivvy and camp fire in the woods - we stayed dry and outside for the whole time. The kids and the dog had a great time!
My biceps are aching from transporting our stuff from the car to the site in a wheelbarrow - take a strong man with you!
