We (2 seniors) had booked this site for a 3 week period. Our son, his wife and our 5yr old granddaughter were joining us with a tent for the Bank Holiday. It has a perfect location as it is a 30 minute walk alongside the railway track and the river Esk, which is lovely down into Whitby. Buses also run about every half hour. The village of Ruswarp, pronounced Rusup has a very good butcher, a pub which serves food and a well stocked shop.
The small site is surrounded on three sides by beautiful trees and the owners have planted a beech hedge along the road side boundary. When you drive on at first it feels a bit like a gravel car park! It had electrics and waste disposal and water within easy reach.
However, the site is a nightmare for parents of small children who are adventurous and who like to wander. You cannot open the caravan door and let children just go. A stream runs through the site and after rain this became a raging torrent. It is down an very high and very steep bank with no fence. The stream then runs directly into the fast running Esk which is just across the road.
The owners are really lovely and didn't charge my son and family because they were using our facilities. We are lucky that our Granddaughter just wanted to be in our caravan and not wander. We had a lovely holiday but definitely not a site for Children!

Spent three days at this site, And what a little gem it was. Will mention the downside first to get it out the way, the site IS small so for some drivers it might be a bit of a bother to park but with a quick scan of the area it should'nt really be a problem. The site is a certified site so there are NO toilets or showers, , , don't go looking. You'll have to use your own which is not a problem, , there are no landscaped gardens or playparks for children, , but what you do get is a brilliant location for walking into Whitby 1. 5 miles away up the converted railway line about a half a mile up the road away from the village (cant miss it) if you walk the opposite way 5 miles you come to robin hoods bay (lunch and bus back) or another 5 miles on you will come to scarborough (same again for us, , bus back)Do try and see The hole of Horcum and the excellent Bridestones in the dalby forrest. Back to the village of Ruswarp it does have the one pub that allows dogs in, sadly it's a bit expensive, , A play barn for childre (little monsters I think) and boating up the river, , ALL IN ALL A LITTLE GEM if you do your homework

Stayed on this site for 2 weeks, it is basic, it is small but: we really enjoyed our stay, the owner lives off site and is only a phone call away should you need her, she is friendly, helpful and is full of local information.
The routes to town are brilliant with bus and train links only a short walk from the campsite, or you can walk a variety of footpaths into Whitby taking from 20 minutes to half an hour, cycle or walk the cinder track to Robin Hoods Bay which is 6 miles away for a good day out, or catch the bus to Goathland where Heart Beat was filmed, the pub in the village serves good food and ale, the village shop is limited but there is a Lidl just up the road towards the West Cliff.
From the site you can see the steam train as it makes its way into Whitby, sightseeing river boats often sail by and teams of rowing boats training on the river Esk.
Every Wednesday and Sunday there's a car boot within walking distance from the site and the fish and chip van calls into the village on Tuesday evenings - It's a good site we will recommend it to others.

Spent one night at this certificated site. It's a mile or so from Whitby, situated on a small plot by the river. The site has limited facilities: water point, electricity points and waste disposal. The owner is very welcoming and keeps the place spotless.
The local area is worth visiting. Robin Hood's Bay has a great beach and a nice little village. Whitby is a larger town, with great beaches nearby and the impressive abbey.
Great site - worth a visit.
