Plus points - close to a great surfing beach, clean and modern toilets.
On the downside- very basic field, boggy, very very very long walk to the toilets, and extremely agro staff.
This site really needs to sort out its identity and who it wants to attract. We had came to this area and site to surf, when we drove past the surf shop, pub full of surfers, saw the beach the tonnes of surfboards, kite surfers etc we thought we had hit the jackpot. Even the guys on reception/security (not locals, obvious surfers from London and Birmingham) initially seemed to be having a laugh and seemed to be more laid back than Katie Price.
If you want to attract surfers and other water sport enthusiasts, you must expect some noise, (not too much I will agree) but to have a high powered torch shined in your face every 2 minutes if you take a step outside your van and even dare to breath a quiet word, and to have 4 intimidating security guards banging on both sides of your van saying you must keep it down now its 1030 is totally not acceptable.
I can understand the campsites need to keep noise down for families etc, but almost all the families we could see were all still up and having a laugh and the kids were making more noise than anyone.
The field we were put in, was a good 10-15 minutes walk from the toilet block and the track was 3 foot of mud and unlit, not surprisingly most people were just urinating around the field and in a old tumbled down shed- where there was even evidence that people had been having number 2's.
Lack of facilities and a poor campsite are not a problem for us as we just want to be with our friends and have great surf, however the way the security dealt with people is the reason we probably will not go back to this site again.
My recommendation for this site is to allow people who want to be social to pay their £20 to use the bottom muddy field (with no water, waste bins or toilet facilities)let them have a party atmosphere and let the families have the nice quiet site 10 minutes walk up the track, have a midnight curfew - everybody’s happy!

We stay here quite often. Fantastic field site next to the dunes on the edge of The Gower.
Loos are always clean, showers are always hot. Late night noise is unusual as people tend to go to the beach for a few beers. Cafe isn't open in the evenings but the pub is not far away in the village and there's another at the other end of the beach too.
You can't book though, only downside really.

Stayed for 3 nights (Wed, Thur & Fri) in Field 4 (3 & 4 for families) Fields 1,2 & 3 were almost full but Field 4 almost empty. Weekends apparently get very busy. Good clean toilets and shower blocks (one morning however they forgot to unlock them until 8am leaving a few early risers a big disgruntled). Eddy's restaurant on site closed at 4pm each day so we didn't use it for evening meals. Great location & weather which made it a great time away.

This site has a great location as it's right on top of the sand dunes and beach. A group of us stayed on a bank holiday weekend.
Nobody over the whole weekend was able to have a hot shower and at one stage there was no water pressure.
The staff working at the site were not very hospitable and on a few occasions we heard them being rude to people.
The site got very busy and was very noisy until the early hours of the morning.
The location is brilliant and there is a restaurant on site, however we didn't use it.
The beach is stunning! I would recommend spending an evening in the sand dunes and watching the sun set with an open fire.
I would love to go back to the area again but would probably find an alternative site to stay at as this one was very expensive and the facilities and attitude of staff left a lot to be desired.

This site is literally set behind the sand dunes and less than 5 minutes walk from the beach. An absolutely stunning location with a vibrant feel. Although the site is for groups and families there are large separate fields. I was amazed at how quiet the site was at night apart from our friends snoring! The daytime had a great party atmosphere but never appeared rowdy. Early evening was great too with radios playing and a plume of smoke from 200 bbq's rising up!
Although the site caters very well for groups be warned that after about 10 they are very strict on keeping the noise down, be warned they will kick you off the site. Best thing to do is head into the dunes with a few cans and sit round a fire. We were invited to sit with people we had never met before telling stories and playing guitars which was amazing.
Facilities at the site are very good with a well stocked shop at fairly reasonable prices but be warned the ice sells out really quick on a hot weekend! The toilet facilities and showers are 1st class. They were modern and very clean and we always found the showers to be hot. We didn't eat at the cafe but were informed it was quality food and not too expensive.
The sight of the sun setting behind the dunes was quite simply stunning, get your cameras ready. It was quite a sight to see a hundred people sat on top of the dunes watching the sun go down.
The downside of the site is that you can't book. We arrived quite early on a Friday and had plenty of space to choose from but the site did fill up a lot on Saturday but wasn't overcrowded.
Quite simply this is a well run and organised site and they catered well for us as a group of 7.

We had a great holiday here. The site is large but seems compact due to great layout, the split between the groups and family fields works well. There are clearly weekend revellers there regularly, but to be honest, the way the site is laid out, you rarely bump into them. The site is ran quite strictly. There is a reception there which is located on/in the field for groups and it is policed well. The staff take no excuses and we saw them turf people off for being rowdy. The site is safe for kids and has an excellent play area. There is a well equipped shop on site which is good for daily bits and bobs. The cafe does good breakfasts but does get busy quickly. The pub is a dangerous mile or so walk (for kids) away and gets really busy with groups. There are other pubs around the area for an evening drive, ask at reception who are always really friendly and helpful. The showers are perfect, the loos always clean I can't really find fault with this site or it's facilities. One thing I did notice which may be a good tip. The fields are slightly sloped toward the sand dunes. Keep higher up the field as I noticed the bottom of the fields got wet very quickly during an half day Welsh downpour!.
The location is great with the site itself being a short walk through the sand dunes. The beach gets really hot and has no natural shelter from cliffs etc. We saw people fishing, surfing, kite flying, hangliding etc there is never a dull moment on the beach. The beach is huge so soaks up the crowds well. There is also a mountain behind the site which is a good walk for the cooler days, the view is fantastic but don't underestimate the terrain.

We stayed for one night as although we had turned up by lunchtime on the Saturday they were already full. We stayed elsewhere and returned Sunday to a much quieter site and cheaper at £17 rather than the Friday/Saturday rate of £20.
We had lunch up in Eddys cafe and it really was excellent. Good price for a good size meal and really tasty. So often you can be 'ripped off' at places like this but not here.
The site was much quieter and although we were in the 'singles' field it wasn't noisy. We went up to the pub in the village fro a couple and had a long walk along the beach. Later we sat on the beach to look at the sunset. This seemed very popular and there were many groups of young people having a few beers or making a fire.
The site facilities were good. The water in the ladies showers though was so HOT I couldn't wash properly as it virtually scolded me. There are also more than 3 dish wash sinks.Go behind the big brand new building that looks like a storage facility.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The ONLY thing I can comment on is not the campsites problem but the issue of litter on the beach. I have no problem at all with people having a few beers or BBQ on the beach.BUT there should be a rule about taking home your litter. It is awful to see such a beautiful spot ruined by empty beer bottles. Some broken which is a real hazard.

This site is in a great location for beach and surf. It is nestled just behind the sand dunes and a 5 minute walk through the camp leads to a fantastic beach and bay.
We arrived mid afternoon on a very warm friday at the end of half term and found a large pitch in the 4th field. Fields 3 and 4 are families only. The pitches are not marked. We expected that we would be surrounded by other campers by early evening but were pleasantly surprised to find that the owners did not appear to want to fill every square inch of the site. We noticed that campsite full signs were up by about 6pm.
The younger crowd were mainly sited around fields 1 and 2. These are nearer the facilities. We didn't have any problems with noise / rowdiness all weekend.
There is a small shop and bistro adjacent to site. Shop had all the essentials. We didn't use bistro. The nearest pub is in the village. We didn't use it in truth didn't fancy the mile walk along a very narrow largely single track lane.
The toilets and showers were always clean but there also always seemed to be a queue, plus water at best luke warm. In fairness we were probably trying to use at the peak times but I suspect few more showers and toilets wouldn't go a miss.
We paid £40.00 for two nights. This was a fixed rate for the tent. This makes it good value for the larger tent / family.
This is a beautiful part of the UK and we will definitely be back again.

I've just come back from a weekend camping at Hillend. The site has excellent facilities which were well maintained - shop, cafe, shower block, toilet block, outdoor showers for wetsuits, dishwash area with hot water and recycling bins.
There is a separate family camping field and two fields for groups. The beach is a short walk away through the sand dunes. The site is popular with groups because of the surfing, but there are rules about making noise after 10.00pm and these are enforced (a group of lads were thrown off the campsite on our first night for being rowdy).
My only negative point concerns the pricing structure. I arrived with a friend and we both had our own small 2 man tents. However, we were told we would have to pay an extra £20 a night for 2 tents. Luckily we had bought my big 4 man tent with us, so decided to both sleep in the same tent and save ourselves £40. However, the big tent took up more space than the 2 little tents would have. So maybe they could charge per person or take into consideration the size of tents.

I have seen this site many times (when surfing on the beach) and was not keen on taking the family. However booked in and found they had family fields in the back. Excellent site, relaxed, laid back, and remarkably quiet at night - I assume everyone who wants to stay up is in the other field, and the wind drowns any other noise.
Excellent for surf and beach, good (although limited) facilities. You cannot book ahead, no marked pitches and this usually fills up so get there early.
Will definitely be going back
