Excellent little site, lovely and clean, not too noisy or over crowded even on a bank holiday. Toilet and shower block basic but clean, choice of electric showers or push button(which are more powerful), 4 showers and about 8 loos in the ladies block was suffice, never had to queue. Free swimming in pool, small but warm, entertainment on a weekend - great. But most of all the food in the restaurant is out of this world!. We live in Carlisle and have often popped to Spring Lea for Sunday Dinner, got to get there early before it all goes although the menu selection is fantastic, all home made, generous portions (chicken curry is best I've tasted). Excellent value at £14.50 per night bank holiday rate. Intend to return in the summer for a week. Plenty of places to visit, Maryport, Workington, Keswick and the Lakes, Carlisle, Silloth and of course don't go home without having an ice-cream from Twentymans. Allonby beach is just across the road, and ample dog walking along miles of beach.

We have just returned home from a 3 night stay on this wonderful little site. The club on site is excellent and although we did not eat there ourselves, we did look at the menu and it seemed very reasonably priced and also very popular with other people on the site. The evening entertainment seemed to be mainly on Fri, Sat and Sun nights, although this may become more frequent in peak season. Friday night was Bingo night followed by Karaoke, Saturday night there is live entertainment, which while we were there, was a young female singer who was fabulous and kept everyone entertained. Sunday night is Family Quiz night and we were sorry we had to come home as we quite enjoy quizzes! The swimming pool, which while small, is heated and kept our two kids happy for an hour or so a day. Locker keys are available at Reception for the princely sum of 20p with a £1 refundable deposit. There is a small jacuzzi and steam room for @ £1.50 extra per person. The toilet and shower blocks were clean and the showers were free though set on a timer, which was rather annoying as they seemed to be set for 1 minute! Consequently you had to constantly keep pressing the button to set them off again, extremely annpoying when you are in the middle of washing your hair and have shampoo running down your face. The local shops and pubs are only a short walk away and all welcome families and serve meals. You cannot leave Allonby without having an ice cream from Twentymans though, the cherry, cinder toffee and banana toffee flavours I can definitely reccommend. Would we go back? Definitely, and as soon as we can manage it.

(13/4/'06 - 17/4/'06) Second visit to Spring lea and glad to say that things have not changed. Enjoyed the weekend with the free heated swimming pool, which we used each day for 2 hours at a time. Toilet block great, bar meals good, beer cold and plenty of entertainment on an evening. Decided to visit the local area a bit more with Siloth only 15 mins up the road and its market / carboot, and Maryport just 10 mins in the other direction. Check out the local pubs in Allonby for great deals when feeding time comes around. Only 1 little niggle that I hope owners take note off. It would be better if there was somewhere for the older kids to kick a ball around.

Found this site by chance and were so impressed we stayed a week rather than the two nights we had originally booked. Great leisure centre with free swimming,1.50 extra for use of sauna and jacuzzi. Toilet block was modern and clean, although parents PLEASE educate your child to FLUSH!! Washing up and laundry facilities were immaculate and appeared to be new. Locally, excellent pubs serving good food at very reasonable prices.
Heres the down side, quiet time after 10pm but there appears to be no one on site to enforce it. We were not advised where to go or who to speak to if there was a problem at night. Our last night was marred by one warring family who were trying to stab each other. Not the sites fault BUT, WE had to call the police and when they arrived WE had to meet them and tell them what had happened. No one from the site came anywhere near in the almost hour it took for the police to arrest and remove the individual involved. We were left with no option but to pack up at 3.30am and leave, as the arrested person would be back on site the next day.
We did like this site but they seriously need to look at all aspects of their security. Also advice to campers on where to go if there is a problem.

We really liked this site - tent field nice and big (although very windy!) Loos - quite a few, 2 privacy cubicles and 4 really big showers (none of this plastic curtains sticking to your bum here!) - could have done with a bit more cleaning but not bad. Pot washing bit was inside - 3 sinks in a huge hall - could have put a few more sinks in. Launderette looked quite good.
Small kids park in amongst the statics (touring bit). Leisure pool is a great plus - its not big but nice (and free!) Usual amusements with a small pub upstairs. It has bingo and a karaoke on Friday nights, usually a singer/group on Sat and Sunday night is family quiz night (we came last!!)
10 min walk to a nice beach - also smashing kids park next to the beach. All this and a car boot sale right outside your tent on Sat morning!

August 2003 This is mostly a very good site, with lots of on site services like swimming pool, games room, bar (don't expect a quiet night in a tent at weekends because of the entertainment), resturant and a flat surface for pitching a tent.
The shower block was modern but wasn't cleaned regular enough and took a complaint for them to be cleaned (as no cleaning was performed from 6pm Friday evening to 5pm saturday evening.) We paid £46 for two nights for 3 adults & 2 children in two tents & would expect clean facilities for such a high price.
Overall if facilities were kept clean, would give 8/10 for this site.
P.S The car boot sale is now on a saturday & does take up some of the camping field.

August 2001 A top campsite with a happening bar and full leisure centre with heated pool, jacuzzi, etc.
Very friendly site. The pubs around serve great food at a very reasonable price, and you always get a warm welcome.
A word of warning - we went in a tent and woke up on a Sunday and was in the middle of a car boot sale. Still, a couple of purchases later and we were laughing about it.
It seems like this is the main place around here because there were regulars travelling each night from 20 miles away - they have live acts on and bingo, quizzes etc.
