Stayed in august bank holiday, the site here is lovely with just a very small camp field for minimal tents/trailers. The groundsmen are always friendly and helpful.
I think there is confusion over prices though as having tried to book for Easter this year the trailer tent in a field for 2 adults and a 2 year old with electric went up to the same price as for a hardstanding 2 adults 2 kids with sat tv connection, taps etc but they couldn't explain why so needless to say after 9 years I will not be returning.
Very disappointed and sad!

We have just arrived home from our second visit to Mellington Hall. We went first last year and enjoyed the site and facilities, staff and surroundings so decided to go again this year.
Toilets and showers in mint condition and free showers. Always clean and tidy and in a great state of repair.
Grounds are beautiful with plenty of walks far any ability. We didn't use the hall facilities this time, used the local Chinese takeaway for one night.
Definitely recommend this to tourers and campers alike, site always very quiet and highly recommended to all.
There is a playground for children and dog walking area, although we used neither, they both looked good areas.

Mellington Hall is a beautiful site with very well maintained grounds which are very pleasant to walk round. Pitches not too close and plenty of space to put up the awning. Had electric hookup, water and TV point (not used).
The facilities were excellent with nice heated washroom/shower block plenty of loos.
The Hall has a restaurant and bar but felt it was a bit pricey for a meal.
Fished in the pool and caught a fish:)
Did not visit anything close by.
Would definitely re-visit if in the area.

Located in the grounds of a large country hotel, the approach to the site is along 1km of narrow, mainly single track drive. There are passing places but these are infrequent and not very long, so two caravans would have difficulty if they met.
Signposting at the site entrance is poor. If approaching from Montgomery (just after the Blue Bell Inn), be prepared or you run the risk of overshooting the entrance and having to reverse back round the bend.
The site is divided into sections, with access to touring and camping pitches via the holiday home/static area. The amenity block is also located in this area, which is impractical for pot washing.
The site wasn’t particularly busy but we had to queue for the showers (only three in the ladies block) and found the water to be lukewarm. The facilities are just about adequate but not up to the standard we would expect of a £25 per night site.
Pitches are mainly hard standing with EHU, water and TV point. This is the first site we have encountered where cars must be parked in the car park, not on pitches.
On the plus side it makes for a spacious and tidy appearance, but the down side is that you have to carry things from the car to the pitch. Maybe not such a problem for caravaners but campers could find it inconvenient.
The site is very well-kept and beautifully landscaped with waterfalls, ponds, mature trees and interesting metal sculptures. There is a woodland dog walk with bins provided and dogs are allowed to run free in this area.
The Hall has a restaurant and bar with outdoor areas overlooking the gardens and children’s play area. Tuffin’s quirky supermarket (with its resident parrot) in Churchstoke is worth a visit, as is the Castle Inn at Bishop’s Castle where the beer garden enjoys spectacular views across the town. Ludlow, Carding Mill Valley and The Bog are all within reach.
Mellington Hall is a very pretty site but we felt that whoever designed it isn’t a camper; otherwise they wouldn’t have sited the majority of facilities so far away from the touring area.
At £25 a night we felt it was overpriced but there’s no doubting the effort that goes into maintaining the beautiful grounds.

What an amazing site - country house hotel, with static caravans & campsite in the beautifully maintained grounds. Separate areas for tourers with views across surrounding fields, hook-ups available, also camping field by old walled garden, now used for storage.
Spotlessly clean shower & toilet block, plenty of hot water. Site is bordered by Offa's Dyke, so plenty of good walks. Hotel open to non-residents & serves lunch & dinner - check times & days.
Once again, we were short of time so didn't get chance to try the restaurant. No children camping with us, so can't comment on child friendliness, but there is a farm in Churchstoke that makes & sells beautiful ice -cream.
We would definitely stay here next time we visit this lovely area

Mellington Hall is a very nice campsite. Facilities for the showers toilets is a walk to them from the far side if your on one of the bottom field pitchs. We had to use the disabled toilets for our son and without a doubt they were first class in their design however on our visit things didn't start so good.
It looked like they hadnt been cleaned in a while and the water was cold. Anyway a quick call into the campsite manager and hey presto instant response, new gas bottle fitted and talk about cleaned. I just hope they keep it up as the facilities are very good for disabled.
Personally I wouldn't use the hall. We popped in for a drink and I suppose its the captive market syndrome, £6 for 3 soft drinks. Ouch.
It can get noisy here. There was a school prom night on the friday night we were there and it did get quite loud till late.
You need to be prepared to come here. We bbq on the friday night with no issues at all but with the rain on the saturday night we ventured out to find the local curry house.
Bishops castle has one but unless you are very fit and certainly able enjoy the walk up the hill ! we couldn't due to our sons problems and ended up driving to Montgomery for fish and chips in the car, nice food but well smelled out car ! try welshpool for evening meals.
Still the place is nice for a get away. The people that work their are friendly and helpful and we would certainly go back.

Peaceful site set in beautiful countryside. Well organised and laid out. Mainly a caravan site, with a small tent field at the rear. All paths marked clearly with signposts, and lit at night. Facilities- single electric hook-up point for camping, drinking water tap nearby. Clean, modern, toilet block with wc's, sinks and showers, plus washing up / laundry room. Hotel / restaurant also on site. Only 2 drawbacks: 1) blackbirds here start singing at about 3,30 a.m. This time of year. (2) Toilet block a little far (200 m?) to travel for a pee at 3.31 a.m., having been woken by said blackbird! Will definitely return. Entry is by a long drive, narrow but with passing places. Local facilities in Church Stoke (about 2 miles) include supermarket, shops, pubs etc. Newtown (6 miles) larger, with better facilities. Several castles of note within 30 mile radius, including Powys castle (NT)

We stayed here in october and were lucky to have fantastic weather for the time of year. There were fabulous walks, we had a drink outside the big hall. We fed the ducks, played frisby in the fields, went in the doggy walking area and visited the lovely nearby towns of Bishops Castle, Clun, Montgomery, Newtown and Welshpool. It is in an ideal location for Wales and Shropshire with lots to do just a short distance away. We are booked to go back at Easter with friends and would recommend this site to anyone. The facilities are clean and warm with lovely hot water! ;)

May 2005 Just got back from a weekend at this site. In nearly thirteen years of caravanning this is possibly the most stunning site we have ever been to. It is set in the grounds of Mellington Hall. There is a long driveway up to the site. When you arrive at the touring area, it is truly lovely. Most pitches are hard standing tarmac runs with chippings for the awning. The all important facilities block is spotlessly clean and fresh. There is also a separate facility block for the disabled. The pitches all have hookup and TV connection as well as water. There is a small children’s play area with a few climbing features, a slide and swings.
The landscaping here has received a great deal of attention from the owner and is beautifully maintained. He tells us he likes to do things to a high standard; he has certainly achieved this. There is a natural stream that runs behind the touring area, down a number of small waterfalls to the fishing lake at the bottom. All round the site are rhododendron bushes, which were in bloom this weekend and looked wonderful.
Many trees shelter the site; however, they do not block the magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Rabbits hop around all over the place and the birds sing gleefully all day. Probably the most outstanding feature here is that you can not hear any road noise at all!
This site would most suit those looking for a get away from it all break.
