Just arrived back today and wanted to submit a review straight away. This is a fantastic family site; no frills, but good, clean facilities, and the are no annoying extra charges for things. Very spacious and the owners are the nicest, most laid back we've experienced. Children's playground is great and the owners seem to want to add to the facilities to the benefit of their guests (e.G. There was talk about a room dedicated to the charging and use of laptops, mobiles, ipods, etc. Rather than people having to while away the evening in the laundry room). When busy you sometimes have to queue for the showers (there are only 3 for men and 3 for women); that said only once did I have to wait for more than about 3 minutes. Certainly don't let that put you off.
Some great beaches around; St. Helens, Seaview and Bembridge are all great, especially if you don't particularly like the overly tourist-like beaches. And as mentioned Tesco's (turn right out of site) or Bembridge (turn left) makes it easy to cater for 'eating-in'.
All in all, if you going to the IoW, this place is perfect.
P.S. If you get a chance, head out to Niton to the Budle Inn; wonderful food and pleasant venue. After a big meal you can take a walk down to a wonderful fishing bay (footpath opposite pub; just keep going down hill). The Propeller (just by the airport) is also a very nice and friendly pub.

Not Long returned from just over a week at the Carpenter's Farm site and had a great time (even though mother nature wasn't too happy - had some nice days, some ok days and 1 stinker).
Arrived early at site and they had no problem with us pitching early - we were lucky that the electrical pitch we booked was free(need to book these in advance - if you don't need electric then it's pitch where you want).
This is a basic site with a small shop where you can get the basics, hire freezer blocks and order any papers you want. This shop isn't open all day though.
The Facilities are all of a good standard and although there aren't huge numbers of showers/toilets/sinks, I never really saw many queues.
My eldest loved the kids playground which is pretty central on the site and it was popular with all of the kids on the site.
Parts of the site seemed pretty windswept - owners said it was unusual for the winds.
Around the site is plenty to do - a large Tesco Extra is only 5/10 mins away, St Helens is only a couple of minutes in the opposite direction, easily walkable but on country roads - although I think there may have been some more rural footpaths that went there.
The beach at Duver (in St. Helens) is a hidden gem, been many times to Isle of Wight and never found this before but it was lovely with views of Bembridge harbour.
Overall a lovely site on a lovely island, very well priced and I will certainly be returning next year.
One negative - the Fish & Chip van that visits site on Thursday was naff ! Expensive and rubbish ! There's a cracker on the way to Fishbourne but the name escapes me.

We just came back from a 7-days holiday on the Isle of Wight where we stayed at the Carpenters Farm Campsite. For a tent, 2 adults and 2 children without an electrical hook-up we paid only 78 £. If you are also planning to stay at the Carpenters Farm Campsite consider the following:
1. It's no more then a big open field with no shelter from the elements. The wind can be very strong and during our stay we've seen 2 tents blown to shreds.
2. There are only 3 showers, 3 toilets and 4 washing basins for the gents and the same for the ladies.
3. The owners are friendly but also very strict.
4. The site focuses on families with small children and there are lots of them. The campsite is one big playground.
On top of that the site is situated along a busy road which leads the traffic to the popular beach towns Sandown and Shanklin. It is never quiet even not at night.
5. There is a shop on the campsite but they don’t even sell bread on a regular basis. They do have a big variety of sweets though

A long established, well maintained, no frills, solid good value site.
The pitching area is one enormous level open field which faces the road with a modern shower (free) and toilet block conveniently located in one corner and large children’s play area in middle.
Quite literally acres of openness, so the pitching is very informal and there is plenty of room for the largest tent.
Reception / shop keeps all the visitor info you are likely to need.
We've been to the Isle of Wight several times now, so some general notes on the ferries: 1) We found that there is no need to worry if you are early or late for your booked crossing. Our experience is that as long as you have a valid ticket, they will get you on the first crossing with available space. 2) We found Red Funnel consistently cheaper than Wight Link. 3) Red Funnel accepts Tesco vouchers on a 4x face value basis.
If you like real ales, the Yarbridge Inn, Brading (CAMRA IOW Pub of the Year 2006. 2007, 2008: good food too) is not far away.

Just back from our second visit to Carpenters Farm & what a fab holiday we had (helped by the excellent weather). This campsite is very well kept with friendly owners and plenty of room to spread out. We had an electric pitch opposite the play area , these are marked for width (very generous) with a whole field in front of you. The facility block is modern and clean with 3 showers and plenty of sinks / toilets. We never had to queue at whitsun but to be fair our visit at August bank holiday did involve some queuing for the showers. The children's play area is new and fenced, there are swings, a climbing frame and a sandpit. My son loved the tree rope swing in the top field. To those that have been before the pink elephant slide is no more!
For shopping there is a huge Tesco Extra about 5 minutes drive from the site, or for a more personal shopping experience Bembridge has a Deli, seafood shop, chinese etc.
If you save clubcard vouchers (Tesco's) The Island has lots of places that take them, Wightlink ferries, Amazon World , The Needles, The steam railway & My sons favourite Dinosaur Isle. Black Gang Chine does 7 day returns which make it better value. The site is very close to St Helens Duver a lovely beach for swimming , lounging about or rockpooling. National trust carpark £2 all day. Eating out Baywatch on the beach at St Helens Duver is wonderful but not cheap & you need to book. The Bugle at Brading has good kids play areas and reasonable food.
We had a brilliant time at Carpenters Farm and stayed a couple of extra days after the whitsun hols (our kids had inservice days) the site emptied almost completely and it was heaven, if you don't have kids or have little ones this is the time to go, we sat in a completely empty field having a barbecue.
To sum up excellent campsite at a very good price perfect for those with children under 10. Adam aged 8 said it was better than Disney, his sister aged 11 (going on 15) was a little bored but still happy to go back. Definitely returning next year.

This review for me and my wife starts back in 1985 when we first visited Carpenters Farm, then using the old wooden toilet and shower block and you had to visit the farm house across the road, where you were always greeted and treated well. There was also a man in a van who would sell you papers and milk in the morning and I remember I think it was Wednesday and Fridays a chip van called the Jolly Fryer would park in the middle of the field and we would get our chips. This was our first real camping holiday and we will never forget it. We have returned on and off many times with many family members and also off course our own family has grown, all always enjoying there stay at Carpenters Farm.
There have been improvements since 1985 with an excellent toilet/shower block, which always has hot water and never seems to be busy. The grass is always well cut and a dog walking area is perfect.
We have just returned from staying 11 days and even though it rained again (British Weather) we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The site as everyone will tell you when they go there is always clean tidy and pleasant, there is ample space even when on electrical hook-up. In fact one of my complaints to my wife about Carpenters Farm is that when it rains I hate to use the toilet / shower block because it can leave muddy footprints.
The owners Dave & Vanessa are always welcoming, they sell essentials in the shop which is open two times a day and really have done wonders with the site.
I have to say that when we mention holidays and we talk about I.O.W then there never is any discussion about where we are staying even the kids assume. My eight year old did comment on how the park had changed as we drove in this year shouting out 'The Elephants Gone' but was suddenly happy when she realised how much better the park was now.
We will be staying next year and are already talking about our 25th wedding anniversary in three years time and off course will be staying at Carpenters Farm, only then maybe without the kids.
So to sum it up if your looking for a campsite then you must go to Carpenters Farm, its perfect, the only trouble with writing this review is I don't want more people to know about it, we love Carpenters Farm the way it is and always will.

We have just returned from our first visit to this site. We stayed for six nights in our large Outwell Montana 12 Tent. With two adults and 6 children we paid £124 which I think is excellent value for money.
This is a lovely site with loads and loads of space. If you hate being cramped in (like we do) this site is for you. It is set in two very large fields and you can pitch where you like, so even though we visted in peak season there was still bags of room. We pitched at the top end of the field and the views of the surrounding countryside were lovely.
The site is very well maintained - the grass was all well mown, and the facilities were spotless at all times. I was slightly worried the facilities would be crowded having read there were only 3 showers (3 for each gender) but if you avoid 8-9am there was never a queue. There was always hot water. The laundry room has an excellent modern new industrial sized washing machine and dryer which worked very well and we used daily! There are also plugs in the laundry room for hairdryers or straighteners (big hit with teenage daughter!)
The sites play park was a huge hit with the children, and as it is fenced in and can be seen from most places on the main field it was absolutely ideal.
The reception was helpful and offered a useful and efficient ice pack feezing service which we used daily (for a v. Small charge). They even provided free black sacks for rubbish.
There is a brilliant massive Tesco 5 minutes down the road, where you can buy just about anything you can think of. We found the site an ideal base for visiting local attractions, and had day trips to the excellent Robin Hill Park, Black gang Chine, Steam railway and local beaches.
If we visit the Isle of Wight again, we would definitely stay here again - we were very pleased with the site.

We have just returned from two weeks at Carpenters Farm Campsite, and enjoyed it very much indeed. This was our second visit to the site, and on this occasion we had booked a pitch with electric hook up.
We have a Vango Killington 900 tent, which is one of Vango's new and very large range of tents, but it just about fitted on the pitch we were allocated. If tents increase further in size, then the size of some of the electric hook up pitches will also need to grow, but there is plenty of space on the site. If you do not need electricity, you can pitch anywhere on the site and it is a big site.
Since our first visit, the popularity of the site has increased, and it seems to have become better known as well. Consequently the prices have risen, but they are still reasonable for the Isle of Wight. We paid £18.50 per night for a nine-man tent, with two adults, three children and electricity.
The shower and washing facilities are still the same as they were on our first visit in 2005. There are three free showers and about four wash basins in the toilets. At very busy times there was a queue for the showers, and so if the site continues to expand, the facilities will also need to grow with it.
All of the facilities are immaculately clean at all times, and the owners take great pride in ensuring that this is the case. This is one of the reasons that we like this site so much. The children’s play area has been upgraded, and is very good indeed. Also hard standings have been added for motor home use.
One of the previous reviews stated that the site is next to a busy road, and that there is some noise. But the road is hardly very busy, and there is very little traffic at night. Most people tend to pitch away from the road, towards the reception of children’s play area anyway.
The owners of Carpenter’s Farm are always very helpful and friendly. The reception is open in the morning and evening, and is frequently open longer than the advertised opening hours. There is also a small shop within the reception, which sells essentials such as milk and eggs, has tourist leaflets, and in high season you can also order a newspaper.
Carpenter’s Farm is ideally located for Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin. There are great beaches at St Helen’s (The Duver), Bembridge, Ryde and Seaview all within a few minutes drive. Nearby Brading is very picturesque, and has some interesting attractions such as the Roman Villa. From Carpenters Farm you can reach any point on the island in under an hour, so the location is pretty much ideal.
One thing to note about the Isle of Wight is the tremendous variation in parking charges. In places like Sandown you can pay up to £6.60 per day, which is downright extortionate, but in other places close to beaches you can park for free. Be aware! You can buy a weekly tourist parking permit, but it is expensive and you are better off seeking out the free parking areas.
The nearby pub the Crab and Lobster, in Bembridge offers great food and there is also a very good Chinese Takeaway, also in Bembridge. In addition there are a number of great pubs all around the island, all of which serve excellent food. The Tesco store in Ryde is also just minutes away.
Carpenter’s Farm can be reached within half an hour from the ferry ports at Fishbourne and East Cowes. Yarmouth is at the other and of the island, and takes about forty-five minutes.
All in all Carpenter’s Farm is an excellent site, which is well maintained and located. I would highly recommend it for anyone with a family. We will certainly be returning.

We spent a very relaxing bank holiday weekend at Carpenters Farm.
It was our first time camping as a family and we also took our 14 week old puppy with us - I was expecting it to be stressful but nothing could have been further from the truth.
The owners of the site are very welcoming and helpful. There is a small shop stocked with essentials and tourist information (not open all day, but mornings and late afternoons). You can also rent freezer blocks through the shop.
The shower/toilet block is small and can get busy in the mornings but we found it to be clean and there was always plenty of soap, loo roll etc. There is a laundry on site and plugs available for hairdryers which was very useful.
Unless you have an EHU pitch, you can basically pitch wherever you like, which was useful for us with our massive tent. The site was busy when we were there but didn't feel at all crowded because the field is so huge.
There is a children's play area in the middle of the camping field which was well-used by our children and visible from practically anywhere on site which was an added bonus.
The site is adjacent to a busy road so there was some traffic noise.
There were lots of nice places to walk to nearby, although probably not ideal for very young children as there wasn't a pavement along the length of the road. The beaches nearby are lovely and the Crab and Lobster Inn in nearby Bembridge is well worth a visit (and they allow dogs in the pub).
We felt it was excellent value for money and will definitely be returning for a longer stay next year.

This is a great site. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The showers and toilets were very clean in the morning but the toilets were a bit grubby by the evening, but I think this was more down to people chucking toilet rolls on the floor. The only problem with the showers was that there were no mops to clean up after yourselves so there was quite a bit of sand and grass on the floor. There was always plenty of hot water in basins and showers but the hot water run out very quickly at the washing up sinks. We never had to queue for showers in the evening, but in the morning there was always a big queue. The only other problem with this site was that there were a lot of large groups and it was very noisy at night. The play park is quite basic with 2 swings, elephant slide and sand pit but also plenty of room to play games near tent and to fly kites. The EHU pitches were very large and the shop was well stocked with basics. The shop also had books and outdoor games for the children. You could also borrow pre-frozen ice packs which came in handy. This site can get very windy as quite open and on a hill, but all in all this is a site well worth visiting.
