Spent a few nights here during the first week of the school Easter holidays. It was a last minute booking and this is not the type of site I would normally visit. I had read the reviews with an open mind.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a tent on an EHU pitch. There are only 8 tent pitches and the rest of the pitches are for the tin tenters. The pitches were a generous size and next to the facility block (showers, toilets and pot wash area). The reception with the bistro and entertainment area were a short walk away. The pitches for caravans were smaller and more crammed together in rows. For those pitching a tent/awning, remember to pack your sturdy pegs. The ground was quite hard and sandy with it being so close to the beach. I am sure it also gets a hammering from the wind. Something we thankfully didn't experience.
I can imagine at peak times this site would be very noisy. We were lucky to encounter no problems with noise from other campers or from the evening entertainment. We did not use the bar area but we did have breakfast in the bistro twice. The food was very nice and reasonably priced. They do evening meals and offer a takeaway service also.
The play area was a big attraction for kids all ages. There is a big pirate boat climbing frame that was being well used. For football fanatics there is a football area with goals.
We were fortunate with the weather. It was warm and sunny for the beginning of April. The beach is a stones throw from the site. Its a pretty bay with shallow water safe enough for kids to paddle whilst being supervised. There are lots of walks around the site. You can walk into the pretty village of Elie from the beach but remember your sensible foot ware for this. For people planning a longer stay, this is a great base for exploring the East Neuk of Fife.
I would visit this site again but would try and avoid weekends and Bank Holidays when it is at full capacity. All members of staff that we dealt with were very nice and helpful.

We stayed for two nights in Easter hols with two kids 6 and 3 years. On arrival, reception was busy but staff were friendly. Unfortunately the young girl who served me seemed inexperienced. She couldn't tell me where my pitch was, or the best route to reach it. She did however move my pitch when I requested it.
We had originally been placed in the E field. This is a large field where caravans are 6 wide and 4 deep. Ridiculously overcrowded. Caravans were so close together that you could only fit in the caravan and awning with car parked in front, and we would have been staring right into the window of our neighbour. We managed to get moved to a pitch on the edge which gave us a little more space and privacy.
The park seemed very busy when we arrived but was surprisingly quiet noise wise, and we were away from the entertainment block so didn't get any noise from that either. I didn't like the toilet blocks at all. Not too busy and didn't have to wait but the showers were not powerful, floor soaking, no stool, only two pegs, everything soaking. On my second morning I decided to wait til getting home to shower!
Food in the restaurant was good and staff were helpful. Kids entertainment was good for my 6 year old. Jolly Jigglers. Short walk down to a rocky beach which was fun for exploring. Pirate ship playpark was great fun for the kids. Shop was good and well stocked. Arcades were fine.
I will not return though due to the shower facilities and the feeling of being packed in like sardines. Not my idea of relaxation.

The site is well signposted & easy to find. The welcome at reception could have been a bit warmer that said all relevant points were covered.
The site was busy as it was half term but the pitches are well spaced & ours had views out over the bay.
Although not travelling with children - the site did appear to be child friendly with a large adventure playground/ children's disco & children's menus.
We had a lovely meal in the restaurant & the entertainment in the bar rounded off the evening nicely. Walking back to our pitch we commented on how quiet it was considering the amount of people/children/ dogs were on site. Breakfast was equally as good.
The site was very clean & well maintained so too was the toilet block, with lots of hot water & individual toilet/shower cubicles.
There is ample parking near the beach if you want to explore once you've vacated your pitch - which we did.
A lovely stay - made even better by a freak heatwave! Would definitely go back.

Second year of staying at elie, was fantastic, such a quiet site, staff friendly. The site had everything you wanted from shop, restaurant, takeaway and bar. Toilets were nice and clean and well maintained. Unfortunately the beach was full of seaweed but that was due to high tides, it was cleaned up nearer the end of our holiday. Will definitely come here again.

Booked pitch with electric hook up for 2 nights. Whilst I think its getting very expensive to book for tents, I am sure that this site is no more expensive than the next. Over £40 for 2 nights in a tent's quite pricey I think.
Field for tents is large and pitches sufficient although very sandy soil so difficult to get windbreak tethered.
Facilities good, very clean and not too busy despite the site being full.
Had a meal in the restaurant one night, food was good and not too pricey. Drinks at the bar also not too bad, with entertainment both nights.
Would go again, no complaints.

First time staying at this site. We booked in for a 4 night stay over the Easter bank holiday weekend. The site is well signposted for the approach roads and is reached by a long, single track road with numerous passing places and bordered by woodland which seems to be accessible to dog walkers. When we phoned to book the guy at reception asked us if we wanted a pitch nearer the play area or the beach front. - we plumped for nearer the play area which was very good for the kids however was a pretty long hike away from the toilet/shower block and the noise from the entertainment complex (thump, thump, thump, thump) went on every evening till midnight and was irritating.
The pitches themselves are pretty basic, all in rows facing out to sea (lovely view), with hook up, but not really clearly defined and quite close together. Mainly grass with some gravel bits, the grass itself is well drained but very bumpy. When we arrived we discovered that the people to the right of our pitch had set up about 1. 5 meters over towards our pitch, meaning that to get our van and awning up and still to leave enough room for the folk on the other side we had to set up very close to the pitch on the right, it felt a bit claustrophobic.
Play park is fantastic and a short walk further down the slope there is a great football pitch with goals, our two boys loved it, it was well away from any of the vans. Loads of kids on site as you would expect over the Easter weekend but there was plenty for them to do, a puppet show for the wee ones, and our boys loved the free football coaching session on the Saturday morning.
The restaurant on site was actually really nice and reasonably priced, food good, generous portions. We ended up eating there a couple of times, and they do a small take away service too. Shop on site pretty basic, there is no shops near by you would need a car to get anywhere. We drove to Anstruther as there is a fair sized Co-op there. There is a good fish and chip van in Elie itself on certain evenings.
Beach was nice, kids loved it, plenty of rock pools etc. Great site for dogs, loads of places to take them nearby.
Shower block and toilets are quite a bit over from the main reception area. The toilet key needs a £20 deposit. Toilets were reasonably clean, but the shower cubicles left a lot to be desired. I can't agree with previous reviewers describing them as 'spotless' as quite frankly at times they were disgusting. Each shower cubicle has a toilet, sink and shower in it. The wall mounted shower is push button operated. There is a curtain rail around the shower area but no 'lip' so the water from the shower is just pouring on to the floor where you have to stand and get dry. No mop or squeegee of any description, so most days the shower floors were covered in mud and sand from people's shoes which you have to navigate or walk over to get into the shower area. Can't understand why they don't provide something to encourage you to clean the floor area after you've had a shower. Not pleasant.
Two nights in a row we were woken at about 6am by an alarm going off somewhere, either the shop or the complex. Entertainment was on most evenings and was the usual mixture of local bands / singers, preceded by the bingo and family disco. It was actually pretty good, we particularly enjoyed 'Joanie' on the Thursday evening. There is also a small arcade area to gobble up the kids money.
Great site for kids if you are not too fussed about the minging shower floor situation or the less than generous pitch sizes.

Third time back in less than a year.
So impressed with is site.
Having three children ageing from 3 to 11 it can be a challenge trying to entertain them together, Not at Shell Bay. !.
I always pitch my caravan on the E block just by reception, can be noisy when entertainment is on but all goes quite after 12am so not a complaint in the slightest.
Pros.
Robinson Caruso Ship is fabulous. !.
Shower blocks are immaculate.
Entertainment is very good.
Restaurant food is good plus can take away.
Beach 100yards and very clean.
Wonderful friendly Staff.
Road into the site had potholes first time we stayed but
Now has been re tarred and looks great. !.
Cons.
None at all ! X

A long weekend that went very well. The staff were welcoming and the caravan was well looked after and clean. The site is very friendly with plenty for the little ones to do. The beech is right on your doorstep. Only down side was the amount of rubbish on the beach. Most of it washed up and not from the locals. The site has a very good bar this regular entertainment in the evening and a nice restaurant with quick service. The shop is small and stocks the basics.

Good site. Nice level pitches in main area. Toilets and showers very clean and only had a five minute wait in the morning as the place was busy. Very close to beach which was nice for walking dog. Childrens play area, bar, restaurant and take away looked good however never tried due to short stay. Plenty of room on pitch if everyone stays within designated area and plenty of space between each pitch. Great walking along the cliffs to Elie where the Ship Inn is well worth a visit. Child and dug friendly with great food and very friendly staff. The East Neuk of Fife is a lovely area with lots of nice small villages to visit. All in all a good site in a lovely area which we will return to.

We spent a week here at Easter and had a great time. Reviews from last year made us wonder what it would be like but the site owners appear to have addressed problems from last year. The toilets were spotless as was the site grounds, road into the site was perfect, playpark was excellent for kids and there was more swings being erected when we were there. Our kids played on their bikes and had a ball. Great walks around the site allowed nice walks with the dog. Entertainment was good kids got to paint their boiled eggs and see Magic Mac who was great fun. Pub very clean as was the rest of the site. Great beach and rock pools to keep the kids entertained on. We found the staff very friendly as well. If you want a supermarket the closest one is in Leven. We will be back in the summer for more.
Thank you.
