Just returned from a long weekend at this little gem of a site. The setting is beautiful and the coastal walks nearby are breathtaking- the best we have ever seen. The toilet block could be a little larger and the men's showers were a tad cold but on the whole they were clean and sufficient for a short stay. Lots of space for camping and playing games and lots of rabbits to keep the kids entertained. The site seems to attract very friendly campers and we would like to thank the gents who helped us with our tent on a very windy morning- there was a strong possibility that we could have been blown away! Would definitely recommend this site and will be returning very soon.

Just back from a glorious Easter weekend at Castle Bay. Have visited this lovely site before staying in a static caravan but this was our first time camping. The camping area has beautiful views over the cliff and the sunny warm weather made it all the better. My only complaint with this site (as a camper) was the complete lack of any power sockets in the toilet block I was informed by the lady at reception that it was against health & safety rules because of the showers, but other campsites manage to have them. We were there for 3 nights and found it very distressing as a female not being able to blowdry or straighten my hair for my nights out in Portpatrick (even us campers like to look good on a night out!) The showers were also luke-warm as was the water in the washing up sinks making it impossible to clean greasy pots and dishes. These factors would make me think twice about returning to Castle Bay

Arrived a Friday night. Pitch for the tents is fantastic with views over to Ireland. Luckily not windy, I can imagine it would get quite windy as it's on top of a cliff. Pleasant walk into Portpatrick, about 15 mins. Not a lot on the site itself. Toilet block clean with plenty of hot water. Portpatrick is a lovely village, with plenty of pubs. Start of the Southern Upway walk. If you start along this and walk past the golf course, there is a lovely secluded beach.
Would highly recommend and would return.

Mainly statics but don't let it put you off. The camping field is tucked over at the front of the site near to the sea with truly fantastic views over to Ireland. It was windy when we were there and despite it being Easter weekend we had the field virtually to ourselves. Great coastal walks around and a 15 minute coast path walk into Portpatrick, with its lovely harbour and great pubs. Facilities are the cleanest I have ever seen with loads of hot water. Lots of friendly people around, dogs allowed and camp shop also.
Dunskey Castle is very atmospheric and right next to the camping field. We thought the whole thing was great! Don't miss the Mull of Galloway, with RSPB reserve, lighthouse and coffee house with views over to the Isle of Man. Gorgeous peninsula and worth the long drive.

Visited with 2 units for a weekend (first time for parents in their folding caravan!). Site is in a cracking location, just outside town (reached by a clifftop walk, not as scary as it sounds!) and overlooking the Irish sea- we could see lights across the water. The site has mainly statics and some seasonal tourers, with all grass pitches for tents and tourers. You do get the best views of the castle and sea but is not sheltered as you can imagine! The reception is some way onto the site, and has the best shop I've ever seen on a campsite, it is licenced and sells cigarettes, but no papers unfortunately! It is also reasonably priced and sells some local produce. Toilets and showers as other reviewers have said are a little dated but very clean and warm, also the wash up facilities are unusual in that they are inside with 2 stone sinks and no drainer- one of us had to wash up and literally pass the pots out in to the corridor for the other to dry! Plenty of hot water though, and the pressure in the showers was excellent. One of the regulars did say once the water runs out it takes a while to heat back up though but we never had a problem. There is also a play area for children (well away from the cliffs) and the shop hires out video's. A bracing weekend, this sites well worth a visit for the dramatic views over Dunsky Castle alone!

I can only agree with the previous review in terms of location, the walk to town and the veiws all wonderful. However the site looks in need of some TLC, which considering this is the beginning of the holiday season was a shame. Toilet & shower block were very small making life difficult with small children. The wash up area has two sinks, but only enough space for one person to stand & no draining board. The toilet block and bin area could have been attended to more often. The location though, spectacular.

Stunning location. Pitched tent with a view of the Dunskey castle only a few hundred yards away. Although the facilities are basic they are kept clean. Toilet block, kids play area, disposal point, shop and small amusement room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Large area for tents and tourers with some electric hook ups. Not all on the level. Pub on adjacent camp site open to non residents.
Walk (less than a mile) along the coastal path to Portpatrick with beautiful views. Portpatrick has several pubs/hotels, great food, live music at the weekend some of which is noisy, some more folky, shops, restaurant, lovely harbour. Lots of walking, boating and fishing. Southern Upland Way starts here.
Local attractions include Mull of Galloway lighthouse/visitor centre, various gardens. Port Logan, where they filmed 2000 acres of sky. They also used Portpatrick and Dunskey Castle.this whole area is one of Scotlands best kept secrets.
Plan to return to this site.had a great weekend

Have visited this site often and it is one of our favourites. Great location, tourers and tents look over the cliff onto the sea. Lovely walk into the village where there are good pubs and restaurants. Very picturesque. Nice friendly staff. Facilities are basic but clean and shop sells essentials. Book at peak times though.
