Had a spare day off work and decided to load up the bike and take off for the Peak District. Wasn't sure what sort of reception I'd receive as two guys turning up at a campsite on motorcycles can sometimes be a problem, but judging by the Harley memorablia dotted around the pub I don't think I needed to worry.
I was there the day after Father's Day so unfortunately the obviously unexpected additional trade had left many of the menu items unavailable, but the food I had was great, washed down with several pints of well kept Jennings.
The site itself is on a slope, but I think that should be expected in this part of the country. The top part of the field is more level but then you experience road noise until mid evening and again early morning. I knew there was a reason for wearing ear plugs on the bike, and they certainly came in handy when a recycling truck decided to empty bins at 5.00 am (I think this was close by and nothing to do with the pub or site).
The facilities are basic with a porta cabin providing ladies and gents toilets and hand basins. These are externally lit at night by a security light which comes on as you approach, then internally lit by standard lighting which you turn on and off yourself. There are no shower facilities so as a tent camper this site would not be suitable for a long stay. Having said that, at £6.00 a night what would you expect.
There are ample facilities for younger children to play, and a large open space for older children to play ball games, etc. The views from the site across Carsington Lake are nice, and a walk down the lane to the lake is a must after dinner in the pub.
All in all, for a ride of just over 100 miles each way and one night break this site is great, with good food and ale, friendly staff and a nice scenic setting, but I'm not sure I'd want to spend more than a couple of nights there with no shower facilities, and other than the lake, nothing else within walking distance.

Gently sloping field with good views across Carsington Water which was a short walk away. 2 ostriches were there and a childrens playground which although 'tired' was great for our little boy. Basic toilet facilities for both men and women but no showers, would have been better if they were clean though. Pot washing facilities were very good.
We arrived when there were just another 2 units on the field, but during our first day two large groups arrived and set up 4 feet away from us, so our view was of all their cars. We feel it would have been better if they didn't try to cram as many units as possible on the site, because by the time we left it was really packed. We booked for 2 nights but only stayed for one due to the amount of units so close to us. No refund was given at all, and when we asked for one and explained why, then just a filthy look - which was such a shame.

Stayed here for the weekend as our first trip with a 3 year old. She loved it. Its got a good play area in the nearby pub and a bit of a farm. It was a bit noisy the first night as there were a group of people in 6 tents who all knew each other, got drunk and talked rubbish until past midnight. A bit inconsiderate, but hardly the campsites fault. Sunday everyone left and we had the site to ourselves. Just the cockerel to wake us in the morning (and the sheep, and the cows and the birds and the sunlight. )
Its a very pretty site, walking distance from Carsington water, very handy to have a pub with a playground in the evening if you have little ones.
We didn't eat at the pub but they do a decent Pedigree, and I can thoroughly recommend the Sunday carvery at Miners Arms in Carsington village.
Its quite close to where we live so ideal for a quick weekend in the peaks, will definitely go again.

The site is in a lovely location, slightly sloping behind the pub. There are toilets but NO showers and no electric hookup. The pub is a great eatery and has a play area for the kids,
At the rear of the pub adjacent to the camp site is the start of a small farm with ducks, hens and cockerels, plus ponies, donkeys and two ostriches.
The site is about half a mile from Carsington Water which has bike hire and water sport facilities. I would stay again but only if I was to take my grandchildren with me because this is a great place for the family.

Nice little site. Set on one sloping field, with one portacabin containing toilets and wash basins. The facilities may be basic, but the superb location more than makes up for it.
The site is located next to the inn, which serves wonderful food and has a good children's play area. Its only a short ten minute walk to Carsington water, which has massive outdoor and indoor play areas. There's loads of space to picnic, play ball games, or just chill out. You can hire a bike or for the more adventurous, take part in various water sports. Facilities 4/10 Location 10/10
