You can't go wrong here folks, no ehu, showers, hot water etc but if you have your own facilities you don't need the extras. £7 a night, large pitches, plenty of space, excellent walks or cycling, Rutland water has a host of things to do. Recommended, why pay ridiculous club site fees when these places exist? 10/10!

I came to Lyndon Top with a group of friends who additionally were camping with tents. It had been chosen and booked as a budget option (£7 per unit per night).
The campsite was easy to find, had ample space for pitching and the staff friendly and helpful; they even allowed us to borrow a table and set of chairs from another field.
The running water was clean and drinkable and there were taps located at intervals that didn't mean you had to walk a very long distance to fill up.
However, beware that there is no hot water or electricity on site. We knew this beforehand but were surprised to find that the toilet trailer had no lighting nor hot running water with which to wash. It was by no means a deal breaker as we were only there for two nights and made use of facilities at nearby pubs. Unfortunately the toilets were additionally not very clean and there was not even any space to put a toothbrush next to the sink (not that any of us wanted to).
The local area is very good though, and I would particularly recommend the Wetherspoons in Oakham if you find yourself in need of a cheap, tasty breakfast.
In all, I'd still rate the site fairly highly but the toilets and lack of hot water to was with did let it down. If you're planning on a length stay, bring a solar shower or caravan!

We have been here many times. Superb location for peace and quiet and beautiful views.
Easy access to cycle route around Rutland Water.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Pitches flat in places, levelling blocks required in others.
£7 a night - value for money.

This is the fourth time in five months that I have returned here. The fields are massive and so very well kept. You just drive on in and park wherever you wish. There's so much choice as to where to park up. NO EHU and a very basic but clean toilet block with no hot water (not an issue at all for me but maybe would be for some?) Plenty of drinking water points.
The main reasons I return is for the relaxed atmosphere, amazing views (if you manage to get the right pitch) and above all, the warm, friendly and genuinely helpful wardens. Nothing seems to be a problem for them. Its like going back to see an old friend - they always remember my face (or maybe it's my butterfly stickered van?lol ).
A very short walk down to the bottom of the hill takes you to the Wildlife Trusts Osprey centre and bird hides and of course the Rutland water trail that runs all the way round this Water and is used by pedestrians and cyclists alike.
All this for a totally bargain price - I don't think I've ever camped on another site for less. If you like relaxed and 'free' camping with bare minimum of rules then this ones for you!

This site is absolutely perfect for a motorhome. The only facilities are fresh water & elsan waste but what more do you need. At £7 a night it offers exceptional value for money. The views of Rutland Water are spectacular & only improved when an osprey flies over. There is access to the cycle/walking path which is where the Osprey Centre is located. Some chicks were hatching when we were there in May. It was lovely to watch on the webcam. Oakham is worth a visit. It has a carpark for buses that can be used by motorhomes. Maybe worth double checking in case things have changed. The nursery on the main road is a great place to buy plants & has a café too. Edith Weston is not far away if you need extra supplies. It has a pub which does food but it was closed for a major refurb by the look of it at the time of this stay.
The Warden Arthur & his wife are always so helpful. They keep the site looking sharp.
This is our second visit this year, plus we came here twice last year as well. We just wish that we lived a little closer so that we could visit more often and that we had discovered it sooner.

We stayed here for two nights in September. Three adults, two children in a tent. The site had a meet going on, but from our field the only reason we knew was because we saw them when we went to the toilets.
Very basic set up, no EHU and a small toilet block. No showers and no hot water. Plenty of water points around the site though and so much space to choose from to pitch. A lovely, well kept site in beautiful surroundings. Very helpful and friendly wardens and for £18 for the weekend (£3 per adult per night) we certainly had nothing to complain about and will definitely be back.

We have never experienced such lovely wardens, as we were new to non EHU, the managers encouraged us and went out of their way to teach us how to manage without electric. They even lent us a solar panel along with a kettle and wooden blocks to level the caravan. We felt so welcomed and grateful for the knowledge passed on. Arthur often popped round to check that we were ok, and everything was working. This lovely couple have converted us to non EHU. The views from area 9 over the water are amazing, along with the sunsets and freedom to pitch wherever suits you. There was always plenty of space and the grass is kept immaculate. I would recommend Arthur and his lovely wife (Mandy?) for an award if there was such a thing for the C&C Club. We will be back and Thankyou for all your help :)

This is a fabulous site for motorhome, caravan or tent rallies. Officially a rally site but individuals can stay (a sign says no-one is ever turned away. ). It is a massive site divided into 12 areas which in total would provide over 500 pitches but when we were there, there were no more than a dozen vans on any area. We stayed with a C&CC temporary holiday site. Cost is £7 per night (the temp hol site charged £8. 50). There are two chemical disposal points, one at each end, water taps are all over the place so never far to walk or drive. Rubbish bins are by the office/barn and there are toilet facilities for tenters only (code needed).
The site is next door to a golf club which you can walk through to. Garden centre with café next door, pub with several ales and food about a mile away (there's actually a CL at the pub) and is directly on cycle track which goes right round Rutland Water. Views over the Water are beautiful, particularly from area 9. The grass is almost manicured, the full time warden seems to works 12 hours a day and is really friendly.
Disappointingly there used to be a bus service going passed the end of the lane which did a horseshoe route from Oakham to Uppingham but this stopped last August due to lack of use, so now if you want to leave your motorhome on site, you have a walk of a mile to the bus stop which can take you to Stamford/Peterborough/Oakham etc.

Fantastic location overlooking Rutland Water. Cycle routes right on your doorstep and a good local pub just down the road in Manton. Oakham was abouta 20 minute cycle ride away.
The warden was friendly and helpful giving us advise on areas we might like to pitch and then leaving us to choose. He also told us we could stay until 8. 00 the next evening.
The field we stayed in was quite uneven but it was worth it for the views over Rutland Water.
A reasonably busy site because of the super location. It hosts rallies too which can be noisy in the evening - but the rallies are kept in separate areas and did not disturb us.
Will definitely be returning! A bargain at £7 a night.

The family have been going to Lydon now for a couple of years and will continue to return on a regular basis. Arthur the site manager will go out of his way to help in any way and is always happy to see us. We use both tent and caravan and tend to return to the same spot because it is so safe for the children however there is a field that has a wonderful view of the lake.
There are very basic amenities with a military style toilet block for tents and that's it but the well kept fields and location make up for that.
I can highly recommend this site.
