Love this site very friendly staff who also booked our vets appointment for us. Facilities are clean with proper toilets and hot showers there is a good chemical disposal point. The town is a short walk from the site with places to eat & drink a small supermarket and a few small shops. The walk around the ramparts is a must. Plenty of places to walk you dogs around the walls with plenty of dog bins.

We used to be regulars to this site, but felt that it had gone downhill considerably on our last visit in 2009. We used it in the middle of November and were delighted to see the improvements that had been made. The owner was friendly, facilities, while dated had been upgraded and were nice and warm. We were given a pitch on hardstanding across from the sanitary which was excellent. Prices are still a bit expensive! I had a look round the site and was delighted to see it looking so good. The ville, as always, is magnificent, with it's ramparts, citadelle and quaint streets. I slated the site in my last review in 2009, so it is only fair that I add these comments at this time. I am pleased to say that we will definitely return.

Stopped on way back from st. Malo. 1 1/2 hours from Dunkirk I hour from Calais. Beautiful site well located on edge of very pretty town. Close to le Touquet and beach resorts with magnificent beaches. Short drive to Boulogne and shops in town with large Auchan hypermarche to the north of town. Site facilities were very good. Owner speaks enough English to get by. Leave site, turn left, down to main road and follow to left for ptrol 5 mins. Lovely restaurants in town, not too expensive and do not miss the choclatier by the war memorial. Make this a stop off point on the way out or the way back at 17. 5 euros per night. There do appear to be a lot of seasonal caravans on site and some could do with a good clean up but they don't detract from the general ambiance. Lovely site.

We stayed at this site as a stop off on our way a bit further down in to France. It was rather lovely and I would have been more than happy to stay there for a few more days.

Pitches are fairly generous and most have hedges separating them from neighbours. Toilet/shower facilities were fine - no queues despite the site being full.

Montreuil itself is a great little town, lots of character and plenty of places to eat/drink. You can walk into the centre via a tunnel through the city walls at the back of the site. Take a torch for the journey back!

The beaches or Le Touquet are very close and on a sunny day are hard to beat. Sand as far as the eye can see and lots to do.

This is a very pretty little site, conveniently close to the charming town of Montreuil sur Mer.

The site is set out on several levels. People with large motorhomes or caravans seem to stay at ground level, near the main facilities, where the pitches are mostly hard standing. But it's also possible to drive up the fairly steep hill on the left of the site, where there are some terraced grass pitches for tent campers and at the very top, more hard standing, which is where we camped in our Romahome (small campervan). There is another toilet block up there.

Climbing up the rather crumbling steps above our pitch, we found some even more neglected looking pitches next to the town's ramparts and reached via another entry road. We thought perhaps the owner opened these up in high summer.

This is not the best organized of sites, with some of the electricity points not working, the upper toilet block down at heel and the owner only materialising around 3pm in the afternoons, with no instructions for new arrivals.

However, we loved it - the peace and privacy of camping up at the top among the trees was fantastic (there was hardly anyone else up there) and a variety of birds visited daily to cadge titbits. You could take a short cut into Montreuil by climbing through some barbed wire then walking through a dank, pitch dark tunnel in the ramparts, another thing I ended up finding charming (there's no accounting for tastes. )

Montreuil itself is absolutely heaving with Brits in summer, and parties of English schoolchildren. The walk around the ramparts is stunning and gives you wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. There is a cinema, and many of the films are English with French subtitles.

All in all, the place is oozing with charm and I would certainly visit it again - and camp at this site.

First found this little beauty when I took my girlfriend away to le touquet, and literally stumbled across it that was in 2007, only visited it 8 times since.
We use this place as a marker for the start and end of our holidays.

Toilets and washrooms are a a little dated but that does not bother us, you can walk up the hill into the town itself and grab a great meal @ froggys tavern. There are plenty of bars and cafes and other restaurants.

The views are beautiful here rolling hills, and the noise from the fast flowing river, you can occasionally here the noise from the passing tgv shooting past towards Paris. Its a very green site and is partial to rain now and then which keeps it lovely and green!

Great for tent campers on a tour and only 40 mins away from channel crossing.

4th visit to this site and I'll certainly be back again. Why? Yes it has all the limitations described in other reviews - but they are vastly outweighed by the advantages of staying here.

The town is delightful - only an hour from Calais but utterly, characterfully French. The facilities are tired, yes; but I've paid more elsewhere and got less. The pitches are lovely, individual and feel private - especially those that are terraced, leading up to the second utility block.

This time we pitched at the very top of the site, right up against the rampart walls and yards away from a short cut into town through the walls and into the Citadel. Two nights really wasn't enough - if it had been my first visit to the town I'd have left disappointed, but I'll be back soon enough anyway - can't wait!

To Find Site:- From north or south on the D901 (formally the N1) take the D349 towards site and follow signs. (Do not enter the walled town.) The final approach is quite narrow.

Camping la Fontaine des Clercs is set out in terraces directly under the walls of the town on Montreuil. This site is open all year. There are about 76 pitches on a mix of grass and hard standing. They vary in size from small for tents to quite generous for caravans and many sizes in between.

There are two sections of hard standing pitches either side of the Reception building with level access all other pitches are of quite steep terraces working their way up from Reception to the fortified walls of the town. Some of the pitches are taken up with permanent caravans. Electric points are rated at 10amps and have CEE17 European blue connectors.

On some pitches it may be necessary to run your electric lead across a site road. Water points are dotted around the site. There are two toilet blocks. The one next to Reception is adequate and clean with seatless toilets and no paper provided, however it could do with a makeover to bring it up-to-date.

There is no on site shop but the town is only a relatively short walk away. Reception has limited opening hours and the form seems to be to select a pitch and go back later to book in. The site has free WiFi, we were able to pick it up in the van but we were near reception. Cost per night during our visit for two persons and electricity was €18 a night. Date of visit early October 2010.

The delightful walled town of Montreuil is a few minutes walk from the campsite and is well worth a visit. The coast is not far away either. For shopping there is a supermarket on the ring road and of course any number of individual shops in the town.

The site is at the end of a lane at the bottom of the medieval ramparts around the town.It is quite a pleasant spot next to the river and the owner speaks good English. There is a small shop in reception and a baker calls most mornings with fresh bread etc.The showers and loos are quite dated but were clean. The town itself is quite nice but it is a 20 min uphill walk to get to there are plenty restaurants and bars and shops and a small shop supermarket in the town square.

The cost for two nights with hook up was 45euro for 2 adults and a 13yr child so its not cheap

This is a former municipal site in a nice setting against the walls of the citadel of Montreuil, which is a stunning town.

Unfortunately, the site has gone downhill over the past 6 years. When you enter the site, it looks nice with pots of flowers to greet visitors. At 19 Euro for a pitch, car, tent, 2 people with electricity, it is grossly over priced. The sanitary facilities badly need to be updated and cleaned more often. The ground is quite bumpy, but with plenty grass. The Boules court is overgrown with weeds and there are little or no facilities to keep children happy. I doubt if we will return to this site in future, which is a pity as it is a beautiful ville and holds many good memories for us.
