We were stuck up against a hedge of neetles and undergrowth and had to squeeze the car in beside us. The rest of the pitches were not clearly marked out and were on uneven ground anyway. There was access for public if they wanted. There was a nice walk nearby and otherwise you had to drive to the bigger park. The signpost was covered at the entrance so we almost missed the turn. The toilets were fine but there was a queue as there was only two and often there were people queuing to get washed at the handbasin.
This is a small 3* site only 10 caravans 50m from the Lough although it is fenced off. The pitches are grassy and relatively flat. The sites are arranged in a circle which is great for kids to cycle round. The toilets were warm and clean and checked by the friendly rangers. There was a playground close by.
Oxford Island provides lots of paths for walking and cycling. The Discovery centre had an exhibition on and a great and reasonably priced coffee shop with huge scones.
We had a great time even if the weather wasn't and will be returning.
Situated on Lough Neagh and is a sort of a country park and reserve. It has clean, heated shower rooms. There is also a cafe on site and park wardens to tell you about the place. (Make sure you get the key to the campsite facilities and don't try to use the public toilets as you enter the site - they were pretty dire).
It isn't a very big site, and quite a lot of semi-free-range children about and large family gatherings when we were there.
However it is brilliant for easy walking as it's so flat and excellent for watching wild life and in particular water birds. There are very good hides.
It is right on the edge of Lough Neagh and plenty of space to lose any crowds that will inevitably be around in high summer.
It is a very useful stop for a weekend and we would use it again. It is probably necessary to book.
