Really lovely campsite set in the middle of the peak district, beautiful views and they sell their own eggs too! They have a few electric pitches at the front of the site, but we stayed in the back field where there was access to toilets/ washing up/ showers in a proper block rather than in cabin type toilets nearer the front.

The showers were 20p/ min and were always nice and hot, with plenty of power. The reception and the rear toilet block had fridge/ freezer facilities that were free of charge. We only stayed one night so didn't really use these much. Toilets and showers were clean considering it was quite busy on the Saturday night.

Some people have commented on noise from the quarry nearby, we stayed on a Saturday night and it was definitely closed, can't say about other nights. Very pleasant area, the rear field had a slight slope so worth having a drive around to find a flatter place to pitch a tent. There was a small shop that opened at 8. 30 in the morning, that had all essentials including sachet size butter/jam/condiments.

There were clear signs off the main road- we came from Matlock way and it's set way back from the road and was very peaceful.

One of the nicest campsites I've been to in a while- really enjoyed it and will be returning,

Our second visit to this site, again the children (well 12 and 13 year olds) enjoyed it. The facilities are good, the showers clean but you need a pound for a good shower.

Disappointed the shop didn't open on Monday morning as we had run out of milk and I couldn't have my morning coffee. (Didn't see a warning of this)

Did we enjoy it? Yes

Was is good value? Yes

Would we go back? Yes (hopefully again this year)

(Better than Callow my boys said, it is proper camping!)

Visited this site, had 2 nights found it very clean and tidy, love the fact you can have an open fire, some slight road nose but nothing to much, But the hum from the quarry was quite a nuisance at night when your trying to sleep. It may not bother some people tho; Very roomy site and the owners give you an option to pitch in either field, we choose the top of the larger one with great views. 50p for the showers and £10 for dep on fire pit. The little shop on site is open at certain times but the lady will open for you if you do run out of milk. Nice site will visit again. MARK & JANE.

Had a fab bank holiday weekend here, so much so that we booked before departure for the next bank holiday in 3 weeks' time. Was apprehensive, in advance about noise from the quarry but only heard it for a few hours on Friday night and even then it was only a low rumble in the distance. Perhaps some other reviewers have been unlucky enough to visit when the quarry is operating at full capacity.

This site had a lovely relaxed feel where people seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves by getting out in the fresh air with their families. There were lots of children having fun in the park, playing games of football, short tennis etc. Free from the restrictions that some campsites place on children by not allowing a ball to roll within 100 metres of a tent! That said, the children's play wasn't rowdy (unlike at Callow Top where bored teenagers seem to spend their weekends terrorising younger kids by throwing bark at them in the playground). If you want peace and quiet though, pitch further away from the playground area.

The facilities here are very good with a couple of very clean shower blocks and adequate washing up facilities though I do wish sites shouldn't install those annoying push- button type taps. Showers are charged at £1 for 5 mins. My personal preference would be to pay a slightly higher fee to camp and for showers to be included. There is nothing more annoying than trooping down to the shower block only to discover you've left your pound coin in the the tent!

Another plus at this site is that you can pitch wherever you like so if you come as a group, as we did, you can arrange your tents/caravans in a way that best suits your party.

There's an on-site shop which is very well stocked considering its size and its opening hours are very generous too.

The site is fairly relaxed about noise so that may not be for everyone. Things tended to quieten down after 11pm though there didn't seem to be an 'absolutely no noise ' policy. This suits us as we tend to want to sit up until quite late chatting quietly but some campers want to go to bed at 9 and not be disturbed.

We tried to eat at The Hollybush down the lane but it seems to have had a turbulent year or two so wasn't actually serving food. In fact, the landlord didn't even have a float for the till so you could only get a drink if you had the correct change ! Be warned- be prepared to travel further afield if you fancy a pub meal.

All in all, a great site for the type of camper we are.

Lovely site with friendly & helpful staff. We were able to pitch where we wanted & chose to pitch next to the play park, ideal for our boys (5 & 2).

Facilities were good although coin operated showers took some planning.

Great site & would definitely recommend.

A delightful site set in a beautiful location for walkers. Unfortunately no footpaths connect directly with the site. The closest paths are 500m up or down a fairly busy road but well worth the effort. Unlike the previous reviewer we were not troubled by the nearby quarry which is completely out of sight. The facilities were first class.

I consider it criminal that anyone should set up a campsite business (especially one aimed at young families and claiming to be quiet and peaceful) right next to a 24 hour QUARRY. The constant whirring noise, the blasts, the sirens and the constant rumbling noise made us feel as though we'd pitched up next to a massive buliding site and motorway all rolled into one. On arrival we put it down to possible building work nearby or some sort of industrial estate hidden behind the trees. As the hours passed our hopes of it ending and a peaceful night's sleep were dashed. Having come from the city and having taken a couple of days off work to take the family camping for some peace and to enjoy the countryside I was sadly mislead by the description I read. The children (2 and 4) complained of the noise and couldn't sleep. My pregnant wife lost a night's sleep also. We were relieved to return home to our house in Sheffield by the quiet (in comparison) main road. The fact that the site itself is well maintained and the toilets are clean and the playground is fun are irrelevant in my opinion when you are bombarded by the relentless noise of the QUARRY. We will not be returning and would not recommend this site to anybody. It ought to be illegal.
Management response: Firstly, may I say that we have never had to or felt the need to reply to any review on our campsite, but yours was so truly awful, that we felt it appropriate to do so.

We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us, and appreciate that at times you can hear the quarry noise, but we totally disagree that it is that awful, and the comments of "criminal" and "illegal" are totally unjust and over the top.

May we suggest that you read the other 121 comments and see that all these reviews are in full praise of our site and we often get people returning
year after year.

May we suggest that camping is not for yourselves.

Nice site, well maintained. Very friendly and helpful owners and very friendly and chatty clientèle. Nice quiet site despite being quite busy. We only stayed for the weekend but would happily come back for a few more days. Nice little shop on site for the basics. Good location for Crich Tramway and the Heights of Abraham. Showers could do with a bit more flow but aside from that, all the basics covered. We normally use our 6 berth caravan but as it was just me and the lad this weekend I decided 'slum it' in a tent, so had to use the site facilities more than usual and found them fine. Great value site.

4 adults, 2 young kids for 3 days, midweek, in tents with no electric.

We couldn't have asked for more from this site, toilets, potwash, showers all kept clean and tidy. There was a shop on site for essentials. The potwash room had a fridge and freezer for general use, again kept very clean.

Plenty of space in the field, nice and flat, dry ground. The field was very well kept, the grass was being cut when we arrived but wasn't noticeably long anyway. Pathways to facilities were clear.

Children's play area was brilliant! Our two (3+4) would quite happily have played there all day if there hadn't so much else to do out and about.

Overall a perfect site (for us) and without doubt we'll be back!

We visited here with our two little ones and another similar family of four. Had a fantastic time - as others have said it was busy (apparently full) but still lots (and lots) of space for the kids to run about. Certainly not packed in. On quieter days you could probably have a full on game of cricket.

A massive bonus was the small shop which opens at certain times and is a proper tardis. There's everything you could want in there. Especially tent pegs which my brother-in-law forgot!

The kids loved going to visit the farm animals and you get the impression that the owners would do anything for you. The adventure playground was also great for the kids if a little full. Thankfully all the kids old and young seemed to get on well and played nicely. Lots of soft bark type stuff on the floor in the event of a fall!

I would criticise the toilet block which is a container\cabin type thing. Don't get me wrong it was clean and tidy and perfectly functional - just lets the site down slightly. I'd personally rather a purpose built building and pay more. Having said that of course, the site is fantastic value for money so you can't expect everything.

We also had a great time at the local pub - not normally something we do but we'd had a cooler box failure and fancied a cool one so went down with the kids in tow. You have to be careful walking along the road in parts but it's not far and the beer was excellent. Put a few quid in the juke box and the kids were dancing away like their lives depended on it!
