Just spent 5 nights at this site and a lovely time.

The site is in a lovely location on the edge of Wareham forest and short drive into Wareham (shops, restaurants, post office, banks etc). Its also about 7 miles from Poole, for a bigger shopping area, cinema etc

The site is fairly flat and has allocated pitches, all of which seem quite spacious. There are several types of pitch - we went for grass, no hook-up. There are lots of water and rubbish points around the park.

There are 2 shower/toilet blocks and 2 washing up areas. The staff tried very hard to keep them clean and I saw them checking the blocks at 7am and throughout the day with the last check around 10pm. The only problem is the floor gets very slippery when wet, but I heard someone say they were getting new flooring in soon.

There is a nice children's play area, sand pit and paddling pool. There is also a games room, table tennis, volleyball net and pitch and putt.

There is a well stocked shop on site and they also run a takeaway in the evenings (limited menu, but tasty)

There are laundry facilities, but I didn't use them.

The site is really friendly and family orientated and was quiet most evenings from 10. 30pm.

The site has a lot of pitches and I think if every pitch was used it would feel very cramped and the facilities would be pushed. But we were there during the school holidays and not every pitch was in use.

While we were there Dorset had its heaviest rainful for years. This lead to flooding all over the area. The site coped very well. One toilet block flooded and the staff did all they could do sort the situation. A lot of the site had huge areas of water, but these all drained away quickly once the rain stopped.

On our last day, my 5 yr old fell from a climbimg frame and broke her arm (her fault, not a problem with the site). The staff were really caring and helpful.

This site has really friendly, family atmosphere and we can't wait ti stay here again.

Just returned from a ten day stay, at this excellent site, the location is lovely, set on the edge of wareham forest, but still in easy driving distance of many great days out, monkey world, swanage and kimmeridge to name a few. As for the camp itself we found the staff very friendly and helpful even when busy, the two toilet blocks at first looked too small to cope but never seemed over busy and were always kept clean. There was plenty to do around the camp including a playground and paddling pool for the smaller ones and table tennis tennis and pitch and putt for the older ones. (a small hire charge applied to use thier equipment )

Has a small but well stocked shop and a handy take away. Had one night of very heavy rain, but got up to a puddle free site, excellent drainage. Will definitely return when next staying in the area, and would recommend this site to anyone wishing to visit the purbeck area.

Visited this site after reading the reviews on here, we thought the pitches were a little close together. We visited with family and their tent. The shower and toilet block was cleaned daily and was fine. The shop had a good stock of supplies and the pitch and put was good value at £1. 50 an adult 80p for a child. The play area was suitable for younger children and the paddling pool was cleaned regularly. There was a small games room with poole table and fruit machines, we felt less fruit machines and more games would have been a good idea. Unfortunately we found the site quite noisy up til midnight, no fault of the site itself, several groups were talking a bit loud considering the time and it being a family site. Wareham was about 5-10 minutes drive in the car and has a Sainsburys and shops etc. We went to Lulworth cove which is pretty and walked over to Durdle Door. Swanage was also nice with lots of shops, a small pier, the steam railway and you can hire boats by the hour if you wish. Overall we liked the site, but probably wouldn't return purely as we would prefer to visit difference places.

This was our second summer holiday at Birchwood and it was a complete contrast weather wise to the first. This year we were there for nearly two weeks in August and it rained most days!

Despite this we made the best of it and our seven-year-old daughter made a special friend.

The site is very child friendly and you can quite easily spend days on the site without getting bored. There are walks in the adjoining Wareham Forest (the 'Sika Trail') and you could try your hand at pitch and putt (small charge), tennis, volleyball or table tennis.

There is a good children's play area which is centrally located. It is possible to request a pitch close to this allowing you to watch your children from a safe distance whilst allowing them a degree of freedom.

There is a lovely children's paddling pool which is fenced for safety and is well kept. There is also a sand pit. We like the sense of space on the site.

Although it is big the units are well spaced and it does not feel overcrowded. Being next to the forest there is an abundance of wildlife - the rabbits are amazing to watch in the evenings!

The facilities block is modern and well attended. The site is excellently located near to the riverside town of Wareham and is handy for the lovely Dorset/Purbeck beaches of Swanage, Poole, Bournemouth, etc.

We can highly recommend this site for a truly relaxing family holiday.

You would be hard pushed to find fault with this site. At times the cleanliness of the facilities was a little under par but given that we stayed at the height of the season and in wet weather it is unfair to criticise staff who did make regular checks.

Stayed for 3 nights with friends who had never camped before. With 4 children between us it was perfect for kids & first timers. Great paddling pool, sandpit and play area kept them very happy. We were in pitches 93 & 94 next to water tap, opposite the toilets and play area so an ideal position. Toilets were immaculate (saw a lady cleaning them at 11. 30pm once) and I never queued for showers. However, we are used to being in a site with more trees or shrubs for privacy and I hated being right in the middle but because we were with friends on this occasion we shared the space between tents. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Excellent position for beautiful Wareham, Swanage, Sandbanks & Poole. Recommend The Sandford pub with 'Pets Corner' about 8 mins drive away.

Just got back from this camp site after staying for 3 nights and had a brilliant time. This was our first time away as a family in our new trailer tent.

It was also my first ever camping trip, and the be honest was dreading camping! But going here for my first ever camping trip was nothing but a GREAT choice.

Very friendly staff, very helpful, I think it is all family run which gives it a great feeling, you even have Granny sitting behind the shop/reception helping out.

The shop/reception isn't the biggest of places but they hold all sorts of things from 1p sweets to a replacements parts for caravanning and camping. Oh and cats food!

Take away available every night in high season and fish and chips nightly from 5.30pm. Breakfast can also be made and taken away to.

The shop prices in the shop seemed very fair £6.30 for a bottle of wine and 35p for a dairy milk ice cream.

The shower/toilets were very clean and checked regularly. There were 2 toilet/shower blocks (about 8 toilets and 4 showers in each, never really saw any queuing maybe a person in front, 2 chemical disposal areas and 2 washing up areas which each had 3/4 washing up sinks. There were loads of fresh drinking water stations 8 or so along with waste water stations and waste disposal. Washing machine and tumble area available not sure if chargeable as didn't use.

There was also a games room with a pool table and a few fruit machines, didn't use.

The play area and sandpit and paddling pool were all well kept I didn't spot anything broken. Our kids loved playing on it all.

The camp site was very busy whilst we were there both it all seemed very quite and peaceful.

Great area for walking into Wareham forest.

We didn't venture out the park except for the forest walks.

All in all a great weekend had by my family, will most definitely be going back.

We stayed at Birchwood for a long weekend over the May Bank Holiday. This was our second choice in the area (our first, Wareham Forest, had spaces but insisted on a minimum stay of 4 nights - we wanted to stay for 3).

As expected, the site was busy but didn't seem overcrowded. Reception was small and seemed a bit frantic as the small shop is in the same floor space. We were sent to the bottom field (Forest Field) and waited for a warden to show us where to pitch. After a 10 minute wait, I had to call reception, but within a few minutes a guy showed up and told us we could pitch anywhere. The staff communicate via radios so response was quick. They also enforce a minimum 20 feet spacing between tents for fire regulations.

The toilets are very clean and tidy, and have regular inspections throughout the day. Water was mostly hot (except in the busiest periods).

We were very pleased with the site - little noise (at least where we were) with good access to the forest trails. You need to purchase OS15 Leisure map to make full use of the terrain if walking or cycling, as signposting in the forest is relatively poor. I was surprised to see OS15 for sale in the camp shop at the same price as in the High Street (I would have expected a mark up). However, we did see an Intex double airbed for sale at £30 where you can buy it at Asda in Poole for £11.

You can walk to Wareham along the Wareham Forest Way (but be careful to follow/look out for signs). We did take a wrong trail missing a turn and ended up at a clay pit which is now being used as landfill! The gravel trails in the Forest are great for cycling (on ATB/MTB).

Check out time is 11.00am. This is rigidly enforced through number plate recognition barriers. We departed at 11.08 but the exit gates wouldn't open for us and I had to trot off to reception to get them opened - with considerable embarrassment as we were holding up people behind. We think there should be a 30 minute or so window as inevitably there will be occasions when you have problems dismantling the tent (this was the first time we used our tent) and may be a few minutes late in departing.

Other than that, we were very pleased with the site and will return again sometime.

I'm not usually one to leave feedbacks and such but this one I felt I owed it to the campsite staff. This was our first camping trip and as such, we were not very well prepared. We booked a 4 night stay initially, but the day after we arrived our car broke down 30 minutes from the campsite. The staff couldn't have been more helpful to alleviate our stress and provide comfort.

1. After making tons of calls on my mobile the day following breakdown, my phone ran out of charge and as I did not bring a charger, they asked me what type of phone I had and when I told them, they said that they had a charger for it and offered to charge it up fully for me.

2. Because of the poor reception on the mobile, they allowed me to use their landline to make calls to the local car hire shops and 0800 numbers.

3. My husband and kids wanted to hire bikes for an hour while I was making the calls and when they tried to do so, we found out that they required a cash deposit. When we explained that we didn't have much cash on us, they just let us hire the bikes anyway without making the cash deposit.

4. Because we were in a very very small tent and did not come fully prepared for the cold nights, my husband barely slept the first night due to the wind. The next day I got to the site store but just as they were closing. When I explained that we desperately needed windbreakers because my husband barely slept the night before, they let me in and gave me 2 windbreakers. Again, I didn't have cash on hand and because they had just shut everything down, they just took our name and told me to take them and pay for them tomorrow. Wow! Talk about trusting their customers! We ended up not using the windbreakers and the next day returned them to the store with no problem.

5. We were able to hire a car but needed to leave the campsite a day earlier than planned. When I explained our situation and understanding they don't typically give out refunds, I still asked if they would consider refunding me for 1 night. This they agreed to do so without any hesitation! It was only 26 pounds but the fact that they so willingly refunded it let us know that they cared and understood our dire situation. Just that alone immensely helped us to get through this very difficult time.

We are very glad to be home now and though it wasn't the dream camping holiday, our experience was made much more pleasant by all the staff at Birchwood. And if we were to ever return to the area, we would definitely return to Birchwood and highly recommend to others as well. The facilities were excellent and very well kept. They even had cleaning charts in the bathrooms which showed that they clean it every 45 minutes! My kids loved playing in the playground, sand pit, and paddling pool. The only constructive criticism would be that the lower bathroom block could use a few more showers, but that's about all.

Stayed at this site for 10 nights during the school holidays, and had a really wonderful time. There are a few areas for tents but if you want EHU you are put in area with caravans. It was not a problem as the pitches are very large, flat and all close to loos, play area, and paddling pool.

Very busy at times but again not a problem as the pitches are large and well spaced out you don't feel squashed in. Loos and showers very good and cleaned regular although at busy times you sometimes have to wait. Play area and paddling pool superb!

Children played safely and made some great friends. Shop well stocked and reasonable. Takeaway at weekends at peak times was a good option. Overall a truly great site, great location, good facilities and great pitches. Will be back for sure!

We had our first ever camping experience this year and spent 5 days at Birchwood. What a brilliant experience! From the minute we got there, we were welcomed by very friendly staff. The park itself is clean and the layout perfect to let our five year old run around without having to panic about his whereabouts. Lots of young families, so plenty of friends for him to play with. Shower block was very clean.HOT showers, washing up area, playground, paddling pool and very well stocked shop. I haven't even gotten to all there is to see and do outside the park.

We have been well and truly bitten by the bug and will be back!
