This is a local site for us so we have used it reasonably regularly over the last four years or so. Personally, I've never had issues with any of the Wardens in this time but I must say this years staff are the best I've encountered on any C&CC site so far, super friendly, always a “hello” when passing by or a wave from afar. This year we stayed for 3 nights on the first May bank holiday and then a total of 9 nights for the second one.
This is a really lovely site, very large (35 acres from memory) and pretty flat. It has lots of hard standing for caravans / motorhomes and appears to be plenty of grass with electric for tents. The toilet / shower blocks are about 20yrs old and always immaculately clean with plenty of hot water.
Hertford town is a nice place to visit, lots of pubs, cafes and places to eat. For your everyday essentials, there is a Tesco about 2 miles from the site, a Sainsburys just on the fringe of the town, a Waitrose in the town centre and if your feeling really lazy then there is a M&S food / BP petrol station at the top of the hill right on the A10 junction!
TV reception was fine, mobile phone coverage good and there is a really good Indian takeaway (menu at the info point near reception) that delivers to the site within about 30 mins (and that was on a Saturday night). Massive thanks to the Team for a great stay, hope to see you again soon!

We arrived and were booked in promptly, we were shown by a host to our pitch, we had the choice of 2. We chose a pitch close to the play area, ( not ideal for many) but for us it was fantastic, having 2 young children. The site is very large with various areas for camping and caravanning. We used this site as we wanted a base for London Visits, but also wanted to have the countryside surrounding us. We found the easiest and most convenient way to go to London was to drive to Cockfosters Tube station and take the tube into London, took around 40 mins and cost 3 each way, we parked easily and for free on WestPole Ave. The site is located close to a Tesco, which makes shopping easy and Hertford Town Centre is a lovely walk, We took the Canal path to Ware and also visited St Albans, which was a short drive. The team who have took over this site are fantastic and were extremely welcoming, (even after us overstaying our site by 1day, My fault!) We stayed for 11 days, including Easter weekend, and the site put on an Easter Hunt with sweets at the conclusion for the children. Our only downside was the distance between the waste water and ELSAN points. But apart from that small point we were very happy with our stay and would return if in the area again. Thanks to everyone at the site for making us and our boys feel so welcome.

Stayed over the August bank holiday weekend.
On arrival the staff were very helpful and showed us to our standard tent pitch in a good sized field sheltered by surrounding trees. The pitches are not marked and were spacious.
The site has many small fields rather than one or a couple of large ones and I think this kind of layout for a large site is better.
The facilities were good, although at times there was a small queue for the showers and washing up facilities, but on a very busy bank holiday weekend it is to be expected.
The site shop sells a few essentials as well as freezer blocks to borrow at a small charge + a return deposit which came in handy.
The kids enjoyed exploring and playing in the woods within the site, although the actual play area within the site is a bit short on equipment.
Good location, a short distance from Hertford. Because of a rainy Saturday we decided to take the train from Hertford East into Liverpool Street, London which is about 40 minutes on the train.
Overall I think the site is well managed by friendly staff who add to the good feel about this camp site. I would definitely return.

This is a large site, but very well maintained. The facilities are all kept clean and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
The site is in walking distance of Hertford town centre, which has many restaurants etc, if you don't fancy cooking yourself as well as supermarkets for stocking up.
There is an area for children to play - a grassy area for ball games and an extremely small playground with just 2 swings and a slide and there's plenty of woody areas for the kids to explore too. My son just enjoyed cycling round and round the site on his bike!
We have stayed here twice now - once for the weekend in July 2010 and the second time in July 2013.
The first time we stayed here the site was full of large groups of very noisy and inconsiderate people and we were kept awake until 2am with the noise - some of the worst I have ever experienced on a campsite and I couldn't understand why no-one did anything about it.
Despite this, we decided to give it a second chance this year (as it's conveniently located close by to good friends) and I'm pleased to say the experience was completely different and we experienced a very quiet site with no noise after about 10pm. There were the usual few who can't read and think it's acceptable to play ball games around the caravans but these were halted fairly quickly by a member of staff.
I would stay here again due to it's location, however the site could be much improved by investing in some more play equipment for the children and then I would stay again without any hesitation at all!

Nicely situated for Hertford and trains to London. Staff all friendly and helpful.
The shower blocks are superb, no push button just running hot water, a shame users constantly left them running with lights also left on. They were very clean until abused by users. Used this site as a visit with my daughter as she lives only 20 miles from it.
It was rather large for our tastes but that is personal choice not criticism. May use it nearer Christmas as a base for London.

I first visited Hertford in 2010 to try out my new tent close to home. The main thing I remember was that it was wet! With a new tent to try this year I was put off by a lot of the reviews here but it's the nearest site to home, so I visited again.
I was very impressed. The staff are very friendly and helpful and chose a suitable pitch for us - near the playground for the kids. It is a lovely flat site with a nice open feel. The playground doesn't have much equipment, but is more than adequate with plenty of room for balls games too. The playground is nicely enclosed too, so kids are unlikely to wander off too far.
I used both toilet blocks and they were both clean and warm, with individual cubicles for the wash basins in the ladies and (I'm told!) the gents too. The blocks have a foyer and door mats which I'm sure contributes to the cleanliness, and I noticed a baby changing room too.
The shop looked well stocked, but doesn't open until 9am which was a shame because it was 8am when I released I forgotten the margerine!
The site is located on the outskirts of Hertford, but the town centre isn't far away - walkable for adults.
If this site were at a holiday location, rather than almost on my front door I would definitely choose it for my stay. I think the only negative thing that I can say is that there weren't enough drinking water taps - they were only located at the toilet blocks.

Arrived under a severe weather warning in very windy conditions, but was surprised that the site was so well sheltered was hardly aware of it. Facilities and wardens fine.
Site quiet and well maintained. Electric coded barrier. I was sorry I was only staying for a couple of days. Some aircraft noise. Hatfield House and George Bernard Shaw's house (NT) nearby.
The site is just outside the town centre so handy for shopping.

Do not believe your place in the country or the big sites book, site is on Mangrove Lane, not mangrove road. Webmaster's Note: Mangrove Lane is simply a continuation of Mangrove Road, it's the same road, it just changes name a little way along. When we eventually found the entrance the warden said we always tell people when they book, that implies other people have a problem finding the site. And they hadn't told us when we booked 3weeks ago. Site facilities just about OK, Toilet block always cold, needs more water points bins and some potholes filled in. Lot of outfits look like long term use/storage. 30min walk to station, better option is local taxi, only £4. 00
Train into London with 2 an hour into evenings. On time and clean. Tesco and M&S food by island
Another point. When following the directions in the site book, when looking for Fire Station near the site, it's a 4 storey office block!

Two visits this month. It is very handy when only a short drive from home. Previous comments said that the facilities were tired. We just wanted to add to this statement. Yes, the toilet blocks are in need of some tlc. The shower trays were chipped and the shower cubicle I used had a crack all down the rear wall. I think some work is needed! There were quite a few units on site although some seem like they are long stay. The roadway round by the main storage area is full of potholes, again something that could be looked into. I also agree that having just one waste disposal skip by the entrance was a trek when we stayed here the first time and were right up the far end of the site. Ok if you are up by the reception office. Despite these things, we had two lovely weekends, each time being welcomed by friendly staff. I am sure we will be going back there in the spring when the ground dries out a little.

We just came back from a one night stay here. We were pleasantly surprised by just how big and lush the site is and enjoyed the fact that we were able to pitch ourselves anywhere we wanted. We did get a little confused when told upon arrival 'don't pitch here or here' (while reception pointed at a map on their wall). We didn't get given a map to drive around the site with so we weren't sure exactly which spots these were.
We ended up settling in a beautiful spot away from other people by the second facilities block. Our children loved the freedom of being able to ride their bikes around our area safely and we also took them to the park and had a good explore through the spinnys and woods.
The play park is absolutely tiny, only 1 baby swing, 1 normal swing and 1 slide. Considering you can't pitch in the park field, which is huge, it is a shame there aren't more climbing frames there.
Older children would hang around on the swings preventing little children using them, that was quite annoying. No parents to be seen! The facilities block was big and spacious, always free toilets, wash basins and showers. It closed between 2-3. 30pm for cleaning. It was spotless as was the washing up room - scalding hot water though so be careful in there.
We will return here I am sure as the site has everything, including gas canisters (cost £2. 99) which was a relief as ours ran out at breakfast time!
