Camping pitches (without electric hookup) can't be booked - it's turn up and see where you can fit in. Lovely clean facilities, gorgeous views.
The only stipulation we were given when pitching was that we should be 15 feet from the next tent, but as previous write ups have suggested it's quite difficult to find a flat pitch on the camping field, and it can be exposed and windy if you're not behind a hedge or wall.
I did feel like I'd slept in a tumble dryer when it was really windy - our big popup tent felt quite vulnerable in the worst of it.
Having said that, there are numerous plus points to this site which make up for it. Rockham Beach (accessible at the bottom of the camping field via steep steps) is a hidden gem, the surrounding area is beautiful, the surfing on Woolacombe Sands is awesome and the Chichester Arms in Mortehoe serves fabulous beer and food.
The camping field was full at the weekend (in August in high season - to be expected I think!) but midweek was relatively quiet. The shop was useful for emergencies, and the washing machines and driers were cheap and efficient.
The reception staff also offered a mobile phone charging service for a small fee (although mobile reception was non-existent in large areas of the site so it was a good excuse to turn the damn thing off totally).
In all a very good site. The only thing that could improve it would be a few more level camping pitches.

We've probably visited this site around five times in the past four years now. I'm planning on visiting again to trial out our new Outwell Trout Lake 4 tent on Tuesday (weather permitting as it's the first time pitching the tent and I will be doing it solo).
First off. There are some choice positions with fair views of the ocean from further down this cascading camp site. You may be initially put off the place, as a chilled touring tent/camper van type as when you enter past the automated gate, there is a stretch of well groomed static caravans to greet you (just as you past the pretty well stocked camp shop) however as you drive further, you pass a fairly well equipped children's play area then in to the main campsite which winds down the hill, passing some small fields and little lay-bys as you wind down towards the ocean.
The views as you get further down are inviting, to say the least, although the wind can be ferocious further down. My favourite position is part way down to the right where you get a view of the ocean as well as the fields away from the sea. The beach is exceptional although it's a hard slog to get down there as it's a particularly steep journey with a hefty set of steps at the end.
The journey back however is one that is fairly rewarded by a good evening camp meal and a stiff drink. The frail and lazy should be very wary of an excursion to the beach so send a youthful search party ahead or you may find yourself feeling obliged to carry some of the stragglers back on your shoulders. !
Just before the entrance to the campsite is a fish/seafood suppliers that will make your mouth water. For those who like a short walk to a local pub, you have two on offer in the main town, a short and very pleasant walk away. My favourite is the one by the church although you have to be lucky with the staff as we've had two bad experiences with poorly prepared drinks that have taken us close to raising our voices to get rectified. The food is fair although generally we feel you'd be better off buying from the local shops (camp shop included) and the fish shop (if fish is your thing) and preparing a meal yourself in the alluring environment the campsite offers as the evening draws in.
Woolacombe beach is a short drive away and offers acres of space for beach lounging although the piles of burger wagons and ice-cream vans are a put off for me. The beach at the bottom of the campsite is much more peaceful and natural.
The campsite owners have always let us get on with our lives and never intruded or made us feel uncomfortable. The place is very well kept up in general. The toilets and cleaning facilities are obviously very well regarded and you get a sense that the place is looked after thoughtfully.
Check the fish and chip shop out in town and have a cream tea opposite the church. All in all, one of our main 'go to' campsites. The biggest downfall for me (and a rating drop) is the fact that you can't book anything up. The sense that you may drive all the way there and get refused (not that we ever have) is off-putting to be honest. Other than that, a totally top campsite that is very hard to beat. Windy windy windy so if you have a frail tent, then find a suitable place away from open ground.

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 2 small children and the site was pretty much full I would say. This is a really great family site.
The view is simply stunning, and visible from a majority of the camping fields I reckon, it is safe for the kids to run around too (as long as not too fast downhill!) and the facilities are clean, and plentiful. The owners were visible and zipped around on a golf buggy to check everyone was alright - a nice touch.
The local beach (Rockham I think) accessed from the campsite is so worth a visit. Lots of rock pools when the tide is out and very scenic.
The shop is very well stocked with food, drink, bread etc, camping supplies and has an ice block exchange and cash machine, plus a few pocket money toys which the kids loved.
The lush village of Mortehoe is a 10 minute stroll and gorgeous, with lots of pubs and a fantastic little grocery/gift shop. The local fish shop is also fabulous (their van visits the site on certain days). Really lovely fish.
Woolacombe is just down the road and fab for shopping, an evening out and of course a try at body boarding/surfing on the vast beach (top sand castle sand too!)
Only negative is the camping site is large with only one shower/loo block so the further away from the block you pitch (which you may not be able to help especially if busy) means a potentially long uphill mooch to the loo. This is fine but it does mean a lot of people drive to the block or pee in the hedges. A few loo's dotted around the camping fields would be brilliant.
Overall, a great, well looked after and run site. Would absolutely visit again.

Done a lot of camping but I don't think I have ever visited a cleaner site than this one. Good toilets and showers. Well stocked and reasonably priced shop. Chip van visiting on a Saturday was great when you are a new arriver. Fantastic views. Dog friendly with a dog exercise area provided.
Close to the village with restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. A short drive away if Woolacombe with the more lively surf scene.
Only one negative, it was quite when we visited but in the busy season it might be difficult to find a flat pitch and toilets would be a trek if you were pitched at the far end of the site.

This site is in a beautiful setting with magnificent views. The facilities are superb and the rates reasonable. It is a short walk to the village and we can recommend The Ship Aground but there are two other pubs.
There are tea rooms and a couple of shops as well as the site shop. We walked down to Rockham Beach and partially along the coastal walk.
There are stunning views and plenty of secluded places for quiet contemplation. Unfortunately, we only had one night here but will definitely return another time for a longer visit.
We would not hesitate in recommending Norte Morte Farm.

My second visit to this site Easter week 2011 (following a two day trip last summer) only confirmed my suspicions. This is one of the best places a family can camp.
Arrived mid-morning from Bristol on the Wednesday, the campsite was not busy. Checked in swiftly and efficiently, their card machine for me to pay was not working, so we were told to pitch up and pay later, which was cool. Reception has lots of info on local attractions.
The only trouble with this site is if you get there and its busy, you will struggle to find a flat pitch, our large family Vango needs a fairly decent footprint. However this was not the case this time, we basically had the choice of anywhere, we chose the third field, (there are no designated pitches) so proceeded to pitch on a fantastic flat section at the top of the field giving us a panoramic sea view, top notch
The weather proceeded to swelter so unusually for April we sunbathed for a bit, the girls (aged 9 and 7) proceeded to explore, we have been once before so they knew the score and so did we. Once we had relaxed a little we wandered down to Rockham Beach, a ten minute stroll (steep on the way back!) and had the afternoon on the beach. Bliss.
It's rocky and the tide races high to the bottom of the steps but we left before then. I had a little pop at some fishing on lures but no luck. Took the burner and ingredients and to the amazement of some fellow beach users proceeded to make our tea of a chicken Biryani
We had a party of friends join us (another seven families!) over the next few days and although the site proceeded to fill up they had no problem pitching very near us and we were pleased they encountered no issues with the slopes. Most had big family tents.
Toilet block - located after the static fields, presented to a very high standard (as we found last year) no queues even for a Bank Holiday saturday, showers free, hot, everything as you would wish. It appears the washing up facility works fine, that's the kids job
There are two playgrounds, both offer basic climbing frame type stuff, the kids used this whilst going to and fro from the little on-site (and very well stocked) shop, I would say this is as much as is needed because the kids have a massive site to run about in and there is no substitute for outdoor freedom and fresh air.
We went to Barricane Beach the following day (just outside Woolacombe) fantastic beach for surfing and boogie boards, which all the kids did and also amazing rockpools, including one at 12 feet deep you can jump from the rocks into! the kids had a whale.
Got lovely pasties from the shop in Woolacombe (near the hotel at the end of town - parking is tough!)
That evening three of the families enjoyed fish and chips from the local chippy in Mortehoe, we all agreed it was a little expensive and small for an adult portion, so next time we would have two kids portions per adult as pro rata this seemed better value!
Big highlight of the weekend was when we went down to Rockham Beach in the early evening to have the beach bonfire. We bought two nets of logs at a garage and used our fish and chip cardboard boxes as kindling. We took eight families down there, in dribs n drabs over 45 mins and as dusk fell had a fine beach bonfire going, complete with marshmallows and pop for the kids and bottles of beer / wine for the adults. There must have been fifty of us down there and as the sun went down, we all agreed nothing could be better. Tip - take a torch to the beach if going for evening, the track is in deepest countryside, dark and hard going.
There is plenty to do around this site, within a few miles is Ilfracombe, plus Putsborough, Croyde, Saunton, all amazing beaches and a little father afield you have Bideford, Appledore and Clovelly etc, so a good base if you have a week to kill and want to explore North Devon.
£ - at £22 per night for tent, 4x4, two adults and three kids I think you could do a lot worse. Your entertainment is your own, if you have older kids they might not like the fresh air n freedom, and prefer arcades and disco's so it cant be for all however if you want
Freedom to pitch where you like Stunning sea views Plenty of fresh air Loads of space to explore Your own beach (but share with others!) Great facilities Relaxed atmosphere Then this is the place for you!
Downsides (not mine just being objective)
Some may consider the toilet block is too far from the camping area, I would suggest that if you want a stunning view of the toilet block then you should pitch near it, a two min stroll vs the sea view is, in my opinion, no comparison. So the block isn't too far away, you have pitched too far from the block!
You cant book in advance (tents) - this could be a fair criticism, however I knew the score this time and wanted to return so factored that in and came a day early to surprise myself - and did.
Massive pitch choice, which goes to show that a little planning pays off. Its not always possible to go earlier than you would like, granted, but those are the rules and there are lots of other sites in the proximity with more regular pitch offering but no view!
This point also covers the bumpy ground, if you didn't know this when you arrive you soon do, some people even with massive choice choose to pitch at 45 degrees, so flat is my preference but not everyone's! To be fair to North Morte Farm if they don't offer pitches in the traditional sense, how could you book one?
All in all, I would rate NMF a solid 9/10 and will return, because the kids say we must! And so do I! I only hesitate to give it a 10 because nothing is perfect!

North Morte Farm is situated on the northern edge of the small village of Mortehoe which is itself about a mile north of Woollacombe (very vibrant and full of surfin dudes). The site is a 5 minute walk into the village which has three pubs (The Chichester - nice pint of 'Proper Job' and good pub food; the Ship Aground - the nicest looking pub in the centre of the village but let down by its beer; The Smugglers - hmm, no comment). There is a fish and chip shop, a lovely tea room, a restaurant and a couple of village shops. For a larger shop there is a Tescos in Ilfracombe (15 minutes away by car)
North Morte farm itself is a very well kept site which has a mix of static caravans, an area for mobile homes and caravans with hard standing and a huge field for camping. The field, however is quite steep in places which must make sleeping a bit of a nightmare so pity the poor person at the bottom of the slope! Aslo, at £8 per night per person for camping, it isn't cheap.
Facilities are excellent but the shower block can get busy but at 8 in the morning there is plenty of room. They are kept very clean as is the rest of the site. There are ample water points and places to emply grey water etc.
The on site shop is well stocked but expensive (cannot blame them for that)and they will order newspapers for you if you need them. A travelling chip shop is there every Saturday and a fish shop every Friday. On this latter, the fish shop is linked to the restaurant in the village. Its very expensive so take your wallet with you!
We had ample space for our motorhome and people were friendly and quiet (apart from the dogs which were very excitable at times).
Outside the site, there wonderful walks around the cliffs of North Devon - the walk to Bull Point Lighthouse from the site is one of our favourite walks in the country! Also, the walk past Damage Barton to Lee and back along the cliffs is stunning.

We last went to this site in 1988 when our sons were very young so were not surprised to see it had grown
We were in the hard standing area which had the feel of a small site but not the views of the open fields
Facilities were excellent but the weather was shocking so did not have the opportunity to repeat some of the lovely walks we remembered. Did walk to Woolacombe along the coast path and down to the beach on the edge of the site
Mortehoe is a delightful village and we enjoyed a pub meal at the Ship Aground
Dogs liked the dog walk and site well equipped with dog bins
I was impressed with the re-cycling facilities
We will be back

Very big site. More geared to caravans than tents in that the fields where tents may be pitched are very exposed and steep. When I was there it was extremely windy and there was no shelter at all.
Site has small shop but there is a local village shop and the village has several pubs, a ish and chip shop and a couple of restaurants.
Toilets/showers very clean.
Note if, like me, you are approaching the site from the South West Coastal Path, the road up from Woolacombe to the village is steep and (for walkers) not too safe. The site/village is best approached from one of the paths connecting the village direct to the SWCP.

Beautiful site with amazing sea views and sunsets in one of the most beautiful areas of England.
Walk straight out onto the South West coastal path or down to the village and on to Woolacombe. We made it about half way to Woolacombe on the coastal path with a pushchair but when it got too difficult it was easy enough to get back onto the road.
The site is undulating so if you desperately want a flat pitch, make sure you get there early (they don't take bookings).
Only one toilet and shower block and was at least an 8 minute walk from our pitch so if you've got young kids, make sure you take a potty or bucket!
The toilet and shower block is massive with loads of toilets and showers (a bit dribbly but warm) and a huge Belfast sink with shower attachment and changing mat next to it, perfect for bathing small kids.
If you like a lie in, this is not the place to come! It was pretty noisy until quite late (but only because of one group nearby which I guess was just unlucky) and the site is pretty lively from about 6.30am.
Well stocked shop selling most things including cold ale and cider at reasonable prices.
A bit pricey for me as they charge per person rather than per unit and unfortunately they feel the need to charge for gazebos in peak season, a bit of a personal gripe of mine. For 2 adults, 1 child, 1 baby and a gazebo it cost us £26.50 per night. Compared to other sites in the area though it is cheap!
Great play area for the kids and the most amazing beaches within walking distance.
