On arrival seemed like a great site, bit open space for the kids to run about on. The fair was closed as we arrived early evening. Our problems started the next morning with only one female toilet available for the whole site and the shower was playing up, no real place to change either so you end up getting your clothes wet. We packed up early because a bunch of young lads and girls pitched opposite us and blasted us with their music. The adventure park looked great but we couldn't get into it as we hadn't bought the £10 wrist band but the kids did enjoy the funfair (15 tickets = £10). It could be a great site, it's right on the banks of the river and offers canoe hire, it has lovely flat pitches but not enough facilities and not strict enough on noise, not really for a family with very young children.

Unfortunately we were quite disappointed with this site, we were placed on a field next to a pay and display car park which was quite along way from the only toilet block, the toilets were very dirty (it was a bit like paddling in the gents) and the showers were £1.00 per time. For saying that we paid £14 for a night I think an extra £1 for a shower is a bit steep!
However the surroundings are truly amazing only a short walk to some very nice pubs!

It was a last minute booking and could fit us in. Symonds Yat west is a stunning location with lots of activities to do. I went with my family and the kids loved it. Its clean and welcoming and everyone is pleasant. There is a adventure playground for the children and a fun fair open from 12pm-6pm and a giant arcade, boat trips which I would highly recommend and an on site bar and restaurant with out standing food!
Canoe hire on site to.
We were on the outside field but not far from the toilets and showers ( lovely tiles) but maybe a little bit open planned near the drive to the park! Dogs are allowed to and some great walks. Overall we loved it and booked in for Easter. Its a really cheap family campsite who want the action and the surroundings.

Lovely campsite right next to the waters edge on the welsh border, canoe hire is available from the site for a beautiful days canoeing down the Wye. Fair ground on site. The surrounding area has lots of activities, ross is a short ride away which has numerous events throughout the year. The best part about the site is the canoe hire, they take you up stream for a small charge and you canoe back to the campsite
Excellent

Last minute booking for the May day Bank holiday weekend for just 2 nights, (and yes because of the reviews it was a bit off putting!) but called anyway on the Friday evening. They was very helpful and could accomodate myself, hubbie and our 17 yr old son and could provide electric hook up which is a must for me so I went for it.
Found the site quite easy just followed the signs for the leisure park just off the A40.
On arrival there was the small fair rides that had been mentioned in previous reviews we arrived about 2pm but couldn't hear any loud music??
Was met with a very warm welcome by a young girl who was very pleasant and helpful and even though the site looked fully booked she showed me 3 pitches available to choose from to take my pick.
I did notice the accomadation in the middle of the site but nothing like a block of flats as mentioned! more like holiday chalets and I think the actual site owners live there, not refugees as I imagined from reading the reviews. The tariff is charged by each person per night £7 per adult and I think £3 electric hook up.
We pitched up and had a wonder round. The fair was in operation but the music wasn't loud to be honest and finshed about 6pm, there was boat rides and an arcade which had 2p and 10p machines. And a riverside cafe/bistro at the side.
We walked to the ferry pub and had a quick drink outside, it was really busy we never ate there so can't comment on the food but smelt and looked lovely.
Sat outside our camper until about 10pm and all I could hear was low voices of people chatting. Laughing and chilling and from my opinion enjoying there break away the same as us.
We had a lovely 2 night break away and the views are stunning around. And I think the reviews for this site are really harsh and from reading you would be put off from going to this site???. But trust me I've been to a lot worst and paid more. But the owners were very friendly and I think if you had any problems that would go out of their way to help you. And yes I definitely would return again.
The only let down about the site was the toilet/shower block as the 2 shower cubicles only have shower curtains and has one lockable door on entry, so if only one person is using the shower with the door locked no else can. But for 40p they last for ever at the right temperature. The toilets were clean and have a key code on entry which was always open and never had to use code but this is down to the people camping not shutting the door and not site owners. There is a canoe/kayak launch and you do see and hear the mini bus going up and down on the daytime when your on site but nothing to grumble about as people are just doing a hobbie of something they enjoy as far as I'm concerned??? and it didn't bother me!
The local garage spar supermarket is about 15 minutes walk away.
My overall opinion of this site is good and if you are looking for a absolutely immaculate campsite with regimental rules and regulations, perhaps this is not for you, but don't be put off by the reviews as its nowhere near as bad as I imagined or pictured it to be.

Wow, what an approvement, the campsite has just changed hands. The toilets have never been so clean every one is so friendly and the atmosphere is so good. Yes there is a lot of play grounds on site but this is now on there website www,riverwyecamping.Com and it looks good. It was not a problem to us as the park is open from 10am to 6 pm so its no major problem and if you have children its an ideal place to go.
The views are outstanding and the places to see and to go are a real bonus.
The showers are 40p but now not timed and the new owners plans for the campsite are to put in new showers and toilets and to make the site bigger.
Most of the road has been tarmaced but still needs some attention but no big problem.
Overall we had a great time we will be coming again and highly recommend it for those who want the views and the family holiday away.

Just returned from 4 nights on this site. The attraction for us was access to the river to launch kayaks and this site is ideal for that. The staff are friendly and helpful and the site is well placed for most other attractions. There are some good pubs nearby. We had a really nice meal at the old ferry, 15 mins walk down the river. On the negative side though, The toilet block is in desperate need of updating, they were not cleaned properly at all and the showers are dreadful and at 40p each a tad expensive. The site is close to the fair. This was ok for us because with half the family loving kayaks and the other being less keen the fair was a ready distraction. It is a little noisy though and sitting out side your tent enjoying a drink and a BBQ before 6pm is not really a possibility unless you like the thud of fairground dance music. Symonds Yat is great.Well worth a visit with something for every one. We will be going back but I think we may try and find an alternative camp site next year!

Access to the river is good. Friendly welcome with good local information given out on arrival. Toilets are not cleaned thoroughly - debris were left in the showers despite being cleaned a couple of hours previously. Designated pitches are not used; we were part of a party of two caravans and a tent and asked to pitch in an area along with another tent designated in the office as a two pitch area. The limit of 35 pitches on site seems to apply to caravans only and not any tents (despite the size of some of the tents!) Washing machine was not working Electrical supply is not sufficient - there is a ban on fan heaters on site probably due to this Waste disposal is a toilet with no facility for lifting to the toilet to empty waste. This results in you needing to lift your waste containers to the toilet height to empty. The cost of a shower for 8 minutes is around 40p and half of that time you spend getting used to the temperature which you cannot control - too hot for children. Indeed the shower I used (once) fell apart Shower door locks broken Canoe hire on-site means that minibuses are ferrying canoeists from around 8am in the morning There seemed to be no on site speed limit and in fact the minibus was one of the worst culprits for excessive speed on the site. There is a 2 storey block of flats in middle of site - these are occupied The access road is full of potholes making it impossible to avoid any Some pitches were flooded out on a rainy day Next to a fairgound which runs from 10am till 6pm The price of the pitch (£27 / night) was excessive for the quality of the service you receive

I have just returned from camping at this site The website does not show the old tatty accommodation block in the middle of the site. It is also next to a very noisy amusement park with rides and loud music which stops around 6pm. The website seems to have forgotten to mention this.
The toilet block could do with upgrade and a very good clean. I had a cold shower after 7pm in the evening even though I had to pay 40p in the meter for hot water! You would expect more as you are paying quite a bit of money for this site. I was also told that you could not park your car near your tent but the permanent residence seem to be allowed. It seems that they rule the park rather than the owner.
I had taken my dog and kept him on a lead all weekend only to see that the permanent residents in caravans seem to flaunt all rules regarding ball games, dogs on lead, loud music etc.
It must be said that the site is on the river bank and could be a real gem with some work. It has easy access to the river and a few river side pitches for caravans and campers mainly. There is a pub 10 minutes walk on the river front
