We were delighted to have found the Point Sands Caravan Park as we struggled to get accommodation on the many others we had tried last weekend. The guy on the phone was very accommodating. We were keen to have some facilities for our 2 children aged 6 and 5. This site suited us fantastically. The playground was situated in the centre of the site with a clear view to it from where we were pitched. Although the playground wasn't hugely equipped it served the purpose well and kept the kids occupied. When they tired of that we could all wander down to the burn running at the back of the site to feed the very friendly ducks. This was quite a treat as was the site of all the bunny rabbits spotted around the campsite. Especially in the middle of the night when the toilet was needed!
Apart from the playpark and burn, the beach is truly spectacular with amazing views across to Jura and beyond. Again safe enough for the kids to collect shells without getting out of sight. Beach fires were permitted and made for a lovely night watching the stars on a beautifully clear night.
Facilities on the site were adequate. The showers costing £1 were spacious and clean, if a little rundown. Your £1 got you a nice long shower though. There are only 2 showers in the ladies shower block so there was sometimes a short wait for them to be available especially if there was a parent with children using them.
Plate washing wasn't great. Not much in the way of hot water and the taps were awkwardly positioned.
All in all we had a very enjoyable stay. Beautiful location, peaceful and not too busy. The on-site shop sold milk and bread as well as some other basics. A short drive to Campbeltown for food and also close to ferry service to the islands.
We would highly recommend this site for people camping with children of a similar age group (5 & 6) we would like to think we will be back.

Beautiful location, fantastic beach and very safe for young children; relatively expensive (one person plus tent £16 per night) plus £1 per shower. One toilet block from the 70s, poorly maintained and a second one lying derelict and there seemed to be no cleaning or rubbish uplift at the weekends when the site was at it's busiest and no bog rolls or hand soap. Plate wash and clothes wash facilities are reasonable. No drinking water on site. Shop poorly stocked and short opening hours but other local shops only a short drive and very well stocked. No pubs nearby.
Great if you don't mind roughing it or have your own bathroom facilities.

Once you turn off the main road you travel about quarter of a mile to the site, then it opens up to a lovely view over the mull of kintyre. There is a gorse between the sandy beach and the caravans, there is open space for the kids to play and one or two play things for them but there were many other kids there so they all intermingled safely, only thing is that at the back of the site there is a small stream so would be careful, oh the stream has ducks living there and they tend to come around the tents in the morning and night. The tourer/tent part is in open area and they have a static part which is in a wooded area. The toilet blocks possibly could do with a makeover and they charge £1 for a shower which could go back into the toilet block. Again the wash pan area could do with a lick of paint but serves the purpose. Tayinloan about 1 and a half mile away here you can get a ferry to the island of Gigha which you can see clearly from the caravan site takes roughly 20 mins on ferry and is well worth the visit. The shop could do with either being a smaller size or more stocked a nice restaurant could work on the site but there are nice places to eat within a 20 mile radius. All in All the site seemed well cared for with plenty of hook-ups, bins and water taps, helpful friendly couple running the site and fees are worth it if you never been before and if you haven't do it

This is a gorgeous lovely site nice and peaceful, the sea here is so safe for the kids. It is the one place where the children can wander around safely. The site is in such a lovely location you don't often want to wander away, Tayinloan about 1 and a half mile away here you can get a ferry to the island called Gigha which you can see clearly from the caravan site takes about 20 mins on ferry and is well worth the visit. Tayinloan did used to boast a pub but sadly it is closed though we did hear rumours of it opening again.
The site seemed well cared for with plenty of hook-ups bins and water taps, showers and toilet blocks clean and adequate. Good play area for children, nice clean shop for basics, helpful friendly couple running the site

We met up with friends here. They were staying in a static and found very little wrong with it.
For us (2 adults)the adjacent campsite left a lot to be desired.
There was nobody at reception, so we just pitched up in a far corner, the only tent amongst a thin scattering of caravans.
We chose the further away pitch as we could see by the littering of pink bikes and kids toys that this wasnt going to be a 'peace and quiet' site.
The showers didnt work and the 2nd shower block has been left to dereliction.
When we went to pay (day 2) the unfriendly owner(?) seemed bewildered as to why we didnt think this site was worth £14 a night.
The website states 'tents £9 - £14' but I dont know what would be the criteria for a £9 fee. A one man tent in November?
Anyway, we got a discount of £2/per night for the non-working showers, only to find that the showers cost £1-a-go anyway!
What exactly are campers paying £14 for???
Water taps - few and far away
Bin - as above
Showers - 2 male/ 2 female, on a site that could accommodate 100's of campers!
A play-park - constantly inhabited by neglected adolescent teenagers, even at midnight!
Great location. But so have many other more caring campsites in the area.
I must say , that our friends were very happy with the static caravan accom.

My husband used to come here every year when he was young, and so we took our 2 sons there for a 4 day long camping weekend. Apparently it hasn't change much at all! Probably the most picturesque site I have ever visited, right on the beach with stunning views across to the Island of Gigha and beyond. The beach was amazing and clean, as was the campsite, and even though it was right in the middle of the school holidays, it was very empty. There were about 20 caravans that came and went over the 4 days and about the same amount of tents. There are statics to hire at the far end of the site, but it is totally separate from the camping area.
Spacious central play area for children with a variety of swings and see saws etc, lots of space to fly kites on the beach or on the site which our kids loved. Our kids paddled in the sea on their boogie boards and the water was really warm [due to the gulf stream]. There is a large marshland to the side of the site which is home to 100's of ducks which is always fun for kids, but it's best not to let young kids wander near it on their own. To be honest though, with the beach on your doorstep, there weren't ever any young kids over by the marsh.
You get given a code for the loos and they are basic, but ok. Showers are 50p and last about 5-7 minutes. The shops is huge, but very sparsely stocked, selling only the basics like bread, milk, bacon, etc. [they do however have a large selection of kids beach toys for sale at really cheap prices. eg kites cost 80p and bucket and spade £1, and they also sell a rather bizarre selection of key rings, stationery and car cleaning accessories!] Best bring all the food you need, or you can drive the stunning route to Campbelltown [about 30 minutes] where there's a co-op and a Tesco.
Come to this site for peace and quiet, relaxing walks, beautiful location, a safe place for your kids to play and explore amongst nature and lots of fresh air. Don't come if you want to go to the pub cos there isn't one and don't come if your kids expect a swimming pool, take away, kids club entertainment or to run around like hooligans all night, as this site attracts quiet families and is pretty much silent by 11pm. We'll definitely be back and you should give it a try!

We spent 4 days here in our tent, pitched up next to the beach, plenty of space, helpful staff and great views.
The site is well away from the main road and looks over the sea to the island of Ghiga. Looking forward to revisiting, this time in our caravan.

august 2001 This is a beautiful site which we will be visiting again this year. we generally hire a static caravan for the week when we stay, and the caravans are always beautiful. the beach is quiet and clean and stretches for at least a mile. there are woods nearby, and the bird life and red squirrels make this a really special place. one of the nicest sites we have ever used.
