I recently stayed at the campsite with my sister and my nephew, the staff were so helpful and always so energetic. Set on making you have a good time.

The campsite seemed to cater for any group but was largely focused on families and had an amazing atmosphere.

It is based on a very large, flat field with a stream running down one side, nature trails and plenty of other games, including the possible use of some of the facilities at Fairthorne Manor such a kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling and bouncy pillows.

The manager of the campsite was very helpful, bent over backwards to help and regularly walked through the site, chatting to people and making sure they were ok.

During our stay on Saturday evening there was a campfire and singing, all the children got involved and loved it. Especially the toasted marshmallows and smores at the end!

I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Especially families with young children.

 Loved this place.

Only stayed 1 night, made very welcome by all staff,

Nice setting, less than 10 min walk to village pubs,

Nice brekkie at site, good facilities, no rush to leave next day, and was told we could stay around for the day,

Nice bar in clubhouse, few beers on tap, much prefer fosters than san miguel. But hey/

Very good food in village pub, co op as well if you run short,

Fire pits available, and other activities.

Will be back. Weather permitting

We know Fairthorne Manor well and have been wanting to stay here since it opened, however being fairweather campers meant this was our first opportunity.

We paid £18 per night and think that's very good value for the location, especially as it only goes up to £20 in the school holidays. So it's clear that the site's focus is on providing a good family campsite rather than just making money.

The grass was well kept and fairly level. It’s surrounded by lots of species of trees leading to some lovely colours and a pleasant outlook. The kids found the stream to play in and came back filthy so had obviously had a good time! There are no marked pitches although the site is informally split into areas for caravans, tents and then groups. This means the groups are away from the main campers.

Unfortunately a group turned up to celebrate a 30th birthday party and a family group it was not. The site manager was great though and tried to be mindful of the balance between a family site and what the group had been promised they would be allowed to do when they'd booked. But I do think overall the site needs to decide whether it's a true family campsite or not, as loud music from 2-10pm was quite intrusive and did spoil what would have been a gorgeous peaceful site otherwise.

In the centre of the site is a small wooded area with the group campfire in the middle. On Saturday evening, this was lit and the site manager invited everyone round for smores and a singalong. It was free and really encapsulated the YMCA ethos and what they’re trying to achieve at the site. You could also hire firepits or use your own and this was clearly valued by the campers as most people seemed to have a campfire going. There was also a scavenger hunt which was free, but there are other paid activities such as kayaking, abseiling etc.

I can't praise the site manager enough. He was always around if you needed him and walked around the site for a chat and to find out if you’d settled in well. The whole vibe was of friendliness, from the staff to the other campers. It was very relaxed and everything camping should be.

I would definitely stay there again and am just so thrilled that they’ve managed to pull off what their vision must have been when they decided to convert part of the golf course into a family campsite. They’ve put a lot of thought into what kind of site they want, even down to leaving lots of space for games and running around, the on site bar which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and the free Wi-Fi. It’s a shame they don't have EHU because we’d be able to stay for longer then, but if I'd had to choose, I'd rather have the shower block anyway.

We booked a weekend visit for 3 family groups. Booking wasn't online but this was the only downside of a fantastic experience.

We arrived and found there was lots of space, flat pitches and easy access. Remember your £5 deposit for the gate card!

The staff were enthusiastic and popped by every morning and evening just to say 'hello' and check we were happy with everything. Steve ran a group campfire singsong and marshmallow evening which was great fun. My kids (4&6) are already asking when we can go back (we've only been home 1 night!)

Facilities were basic but usable. Only minor point was that the toilets and showers could use a more frequent clean as the bins got full quickly and the floors outside were slippy when wet.

Overall we were impressed and very happy with this site and can't wait to head back!

Fantastic camp site. Lovely big pitches plenty of room around the whole tents. The campsite itself is obviously attached to the YMCA which is a great bonus as you can access some of the activities for a small charge ( pillow jumping, raft making, abseiling )

The staff are really friendly and great with all kids and always available 24 hours. The security guard team were also lovely approachable and keen that we felt safe and had all we needed.

You are able to light fires which is also a great benefit and staff are not militant about rules and regulations surrounding this yet still remain safe.

Toilet blocks are clean and quite new. Showers hot and also new but not too many of them.

Botley is 1mile away and good for provisions seemed to have a few places to eat etc. Only downside that the only way in is along a really busy road which is not a nice walk with children.

Campsite and staff brilliant real find, we had our best camping experience yet !

Only criticism was that did not have any recycling facilities bot otherwise ace.

As a group of three families consisting of 6 adults and 8 children (between 8yrs and 14yrs) we were looking for a site to satisfy our ever growing list of requirements. These include: being allowed to have a camp fire; decent showers; a hairdryer point; a stream for the kids to play in and no eco-loos (we had a bad experience of some poor ones!).

It’s a YMCA site that had, the day we arrived, started operating a Family campsite, so we had no reviews to read. In fact, I am almost reluctant to leave a review as it might get too busy! So how did it meet our criteria? Well, you can hire fire pits (although we took our own) and they supply wood at a reasonable price. The brand new shower/toilet/washing up facilities were great and there was power for hairdryers available in the Clubhouse building (also had male showers). The new toilet block would benefit from slightly more frequent cleaning (esp to keep them looking good) but it was their first weekend operating as a Family Campsite so still learning! As we filled in a questionnaire on leaving am sure this will be dealt with and if it had been a real problem then sure the very jolly helpful and friendly site manager would have sorted it out. The stream was great fun for the kids and not an eco loo in sight!

You can also hire large BBQ's, there is a small bar in the Clubhouse serving a good range of drinks (reasonably priced and good when the ice in the cool box has melted!) and also food – although we didn't try this but would be a good back up if wet! Also sell ice creams, milk, bacon and other camp essentials. The site is in a beautiful setting, quiet (apart from the Dawn Chorus!) and lots of flat grass for pitching (being an ex golf course), sheltered and a nice stream leading to the River. Then there is the added bonus of activities! Our kids did archery, abseiling and kayaking which can be booked on arrival or on the day and again good value. The staff were all great and the addition of an overnight security person meant not being kept awake by rowdy parties (although it was also not overbearing so can still enjoy yourself!). We only left the site to do a quick shop – there is a Co-op in nearby Hedge End and also a HUGE Sainsbury's (and M&S!) along with a Cotswold Camping should you realise you've forgotten something vital! Botley village also good with pubs, restaurants etc and within walking distance. The only extra thing they could do is offer ice block freezing but with fresh milk and beer on site not a real issue! So the site met all our criteria…and some - we will definitely be back! Just hope not too many people find out about it….

We stayed here for 4 nights over the campsite's inaugural weekend. We loved every minute. There was a great atmosphere. Everything was laid back and staff were so friendly and helpful. No long lists of rules. No marked pitches. Plenty of space. But no electric hookups.

Camp fires are allowed. You can either rent your own fire pit and wood for just 10 pounds, or there is a group fire pit in a clearing under the trees. There were loads of activities available, some free and some with an extra charge e. G. Mini Olympics, bouncy pillow, kayaking, abseiling, songs round the campfire. There is a football pitch on site, loved by our boys, and a bar that serves pub meals on site at very good prices.

The campsite is located close to the small town of Botley which has loads of charm and all facilities you will need - good restaurants, general store, bakery, pubs, takeaways etc.

There is lots to see and do around and about - golf, horse riding, Wickham vineyard, country parks, nature reserves etc.

A downside was the washblock. This was lovely and clean when we first arrived on site, but by the end of the weekend it was looking a bit diskempt. I think the owners need to consider extending the facilities and cleaning them more frequently during busy times.

Overall this is a very promising campsite. It is in its infancy so time will tell. But we will definitely come back and have left with great memories!
