Just home from a wonderful bank holiday weekend in Edale at Fieldhead campsite! We stayed in a large tent with my 2 sons to hike and mountain bike in the surrounding area. We arrived late Friday and were quite worried that reception would be closed but luckily we were greeted by the friendly owners and advised to pick a pitch, which was great.
The site is set in a beautiful location with the peaks in the background and stream running through it - also very handily located at the entrance is the visitor centre with weather information gifts and a wild flower roof. No parking next to pitches, we had a parking spot and really from wherever you are in the campsite it's not far at all to make trips to and from the car park - we actually really liked not having cars driving around with the kids to worry about. The toilets showers and washing up areas were warm, adequate and central. Pitching areas all appeared flat, my son fell in love with the campsite cat!
Centrally located for the station, the village pubs and loads of walking routes - also worth a visit is the derwent and ladybower reservoirs which we drive to (approx 20 minutes away by car) and cycled around.
Easily the most beautiful campsite we've stayed in, the owners were helpful taking the time to chat about possible walking routes and they invited the kids on a bat searching walk
Would happily return, many thanks for a great value weekend.

Lovely sheltered site in the village of Edale with several smaller fields surrounded by trees and a small stream rather than one big ol' field.
It's not far from shops, Edale train station and a couple of decent pubs. Good base-camp for Kinder Scout.
The pitches were well maintained. Though quite stoney resulting in a couple of bent pegs (No biggie)
The facilities were not new but functional and well maintained. The showers were 20p for 2 minutes and were hot enough for me. Free hot water for pot washing though.
Nice site overall with lovely scenery.
£7. 00 per night for a back-packer.

My stay didn't start off too well with the warden quite abruptly telling me where I can and can't pitch - which was fine but if areas are not open then mark clearly them as such rather than half dragging a bin across the access. The facilities were scruffy and in need of being looked after but certainly sufficient for ones needs. Picnic tables available to cook and eat at was good. Pitches were flat.
BUT - if you have kids then this is not as good a site as it appears - the list of rules is almost Caravan Club-esque. If you have a site with woods, a bridge and a stream it will appeal to parents with kids, if you then ban them from going anywhere near the very places they want to then you end up with unhappy customers.
For walkers after a site in a good position in the Peak District it's a great site, for me with young kids that want to run off and play it's off the list.

I arrived after a 16 mile hike up through the peaks about 4pm.
I was dealt with straight away and was given the choice of the main 3 fields to pitch. Only 5 per night which was good value.
Other good points include the washing up facilities (lots of hot water), plenty of bins, picnic area for camp cooking, toilets and the ground under foot was quite firm for the time of year.
Bad points include: Outside lights from the toilet block lit up the whole camping field all night, the dry room wasn't very good, not even remotely warm. Showers cost 20p for 2 minutes but it takes 1 minute to warm up so your best off putting at least 40p in.
All in all, and excellent site in a great location but could do with a good spring clean and a spot of maintenance.

We stayed at this campsite for two nights over a weekend in August. We booked two pitches, one for ourselves and one for family who were taking their first camping trip.
When we made the booking we were told that there was no room in the car park and that we would have to park in the village or station car park. When we arrived at the campsite we were told that we could actually park in the campsite car park as there had been cancellations. Thank goodness for this, I couldn’t imagine how difficult it would have been with our cars located even further away. Cars are not permitted on the actual campsite so you have to carry your stuff to your pitch. For us, this was not fun.
The campsite itself is spilt into four or five sections rather than a large field which is nice. We had plenty of room for our tents in the field which we chose. The campsite is in a good location. Here ends the positive points!
The toilets were very shabby often without loo roll, soap or hand drying facilities. Showers are paid for separately. As is the car park. Altogether we paid £67 for the two nights for two pitches and the car parking. Although this is average for campsites in the summer, for the quality of the facilities I do not feel that this is good value.
The two pubs in the village are ok but nothing to write home about and lacking in any atmosphere.
We ate out on our second night in Castleton which was really nice, pubs are lovely. We then walked to Hope and caught the train back to Edale.
I think that this is probably a suitable site for hikers with small tents and no cars. I would not stay again or recommend to others.

Friendly And very helpful owners. Couldn't ask for better shower, toilet, cleaning and other facilities.
Clean site with bins and recycle bins. Nice flat pitching areas.
Close by trainline never caused any problems.
Central to all good walks Including Jacob's ladder.
Close to railway station and local village.
Would definitely recommend and revisit time and time again

Pros:
- lovely spot, great location for walking
- friendly and helpful staff
- we had plenty of choice of pitch (arriving at around 3pm on the Friday before a busy weekend)
Cons:
- on checking in we were presented with a list of site rules. Which is fine, but it might be nice to actually be given some *information* too, e. G. A map of the site, how the showers work, where the nearest shop is, etc.
- difficult car parking: you have to book and pay per day, or if the car park is full (as it was when we booked) you have to park at the railway station about 10 mins walk down the road, and buy a new ticket every 24 hours, which is quite inconvenient to say the least.
- showers: supply of 20p coins needed, coin slot is *outside* the shower (!), showers are limited to maximum 6 mins, and the hot water takes about 30 seconds to come through.
- only 2 washing up sinks, there was usually a queue
- trains are a bit noisy, but they stop at night and aren't really a problem
- there was some late-night noise, but we might have just been unlucky. The site owners did have a word with the offenders.

Not the greatest site in the world.
The toilets and showers were not very fresh and did not seem to be clean, especially in the morning, the seemed to be cleaned in the afternoon. The dish washing facilities were also cramped and a bit dirty
The train is really close if you are travelling by train but the trains run throughout the night These are freight trains mainly, and during the day expect to see and hear a train every 10 minutes or so.
The campsite was generally clean and tidy. It helped that the cars were in the car park, but this was cramped and the management patrol it with a very eager eye!
Talking of management the people running it did not seem very friendly, efficient yes, but nothing was done with a smile.
Only tried the Nags head for food. This was not good but quite expensive - 2 pie and chips was over £20. The beer was good though
The area itself is fabulous and would recommend it

I found this to be a really nice friendly site with great views. It's in the centre of Edale, about 5 mins walk from the railway station. There are two nice pubs also within a very short distance.
Go to be totally honest now, the facilities are not great, showers only luke warm/cold. However it appears to be a very popular site, so I would suggest it's advisable to book in advance especially at weekends.
