Found this site very peaceful, clean and tidy. However it was mid week when we stayed, in school term time too and the weather was superb. So plenty of choice and no wind, though I do agree there are some very uneven areas in the field.Facilities were clean and maintained. Will definitely go back there.

Lovely informal campsite in a relatively remote location. Site nice and safe for the children as no through traffic.
The bank holiday was very busy and the site was full for most of the weekend. Our trip was not as good as it could have been as a people were pitching far too close for comfort - guy-ropes crossing. The unevenness of the site meant that everyone was trying to find a flat spot, so this didn't help. We also had very strong winds and some of our poles snapped while we were trying to put the tent up. Other campers had their tents damaged. The wind did die down on the last day, so I don't know if we were unlucky with the weather or if it is always windy at this site.
The facilities are basic. Despite being cleaned daily the Ladies wash block was getting dirty and smelly by the end of the weekend - more frequent cleaning is needed at busy times. Plenty of hot water and free showers.
Very close to the beach. The stables were very popular and the owners were quite happy for the children to stroke and brush the horses.
We did not see any sign of a bar or restaurant being open as mentioned in previous reviews. There was a house which looked like it could have been a bar once, but it seems to have closed down.
We would definitely visit again as there were more positive aspects than negative ones.

October 2004 As mentioned in other reviews here the stables are quite good, great if you're into horse riding, it's also true about the tide being a looong way from the beach. Be warned, the road surface is terrible on the drive to the site, also the pitches are on really uneven ground. There's also only 5 electrical hookups, pre-book during busy times.

July 2004 This campsite is just BRILLANT and the kids loved the horses, going out on the beach every day. The owners are really helpful and so friendly. The scenery is outstanding all around the campsite. Berwick is just up the road and seahouses down the A1, a short drive away.B amburgh is not to be missed. I would go back anyday, it's brillant and with the adorable horses who would not go back and the campsite IS really clean and tidy.

September 2003 I'm not sure what happened between July and September but the toilets and showers were filthy.
I loved the location of the site (big skies) but the site itself is pretty uneven being mostly on the side of a sand dune. The beach has warnings about once being a military site and the chances of unexploded arsenal and another warning about quick sands!!
Not sure about the suitability of this site for kids. The beach seemed almost exclusively muddy rather than sandy and the sea must have been a mile away.

July 2003 We had a wonderful time here with 5 small children!! The beach (very long and clean) is just over the sand dunes a short walk from the tents - but the sea is a long walk away! The facilities are old fashioned but clean and more than adequate. Shop only open for a couple of hours a day and very basic stock. Stables fantastic, new safety equipment and lots of friendly 'leaders' for beginners, they actually do riding activities with the kids (and adults!) they don't just lead them around.Definately recommended for people who love beach rounders and peace and quiet.(there is a bar too but we never saw it cos we spent our evenings on the beach!)

sevreal times in 2003 Have visited this site several times since May this year with my family and also with groups of our friends and we have always really enjoyed our time there. My 4 year old daughter absolutely loves this campsite - there is no play area but there is a huge beach and stables on site though booking is recommended if you wish to go out on a ride. The bar serves decent food in the evenings from 7pm and kids and dogs are welcome - look for the swallows nesting above the window. Nearby there are loads of things to keep kids amused such as Heatherslaw railway, Conundrum Farm, Paxton House has great play area, we enjoyed a trip to the Farne Islands. On one occasion we spent 9 nights at this site and still didn't want to come home - think it is because the atmosphere is so relaxed there. The facilities are not luxurious but all clean. Would definately recommend this site and have done to many of our friends.
