Small site which was a bit muddy when we were there. Driveway very pot holey but owner was trying to fill the holes with gravel so may improve. Fun fair right next door good for kids but not for a relaxing time by the river! Basic amenities with a code to open the toilets. Surrounding area is lovely. Symonds Yat Rock has stunning views and lots of woodland to walk around but as there are wild boar in the forest you have to keep your dog on a lead. Three pubs in walking distance. Old Court looked very plush, menu looked very good, beer garden. Crown Hotel allowed dogs in the bar area. Wye Knot Inn was very dog friendly, you could eat with your dog next to you and they serve a nice pint! We drove to Goodrich where there is a castle which does not allow dogs so we turned swiftly around and headed for the nearest pub which was the Inn on the Wye. Another very dog friendly pub that served food.

My wife and visited this site on the 6/4/07, We had a hard standing riverside pitch. To say it was picturesque is an understatement. The staff were great any help needed they were there for you. The only down side to the camp is that next door to the site was a children's fun fare with all the rides, etc. But on that good side the fare closed at about 5pm to 7pm every night. We will be going back again loved the camp and the people.

Was expecting better site considering the cost. Access road was full of pot holes. No lighting to site apart from toilet block. Staff were friendly and helpful but at time of visit construction work was taking place at leisure park which is right next door. Shower block was dated 40p for shower sometimes so hot it unbearable with no temperature control Lovely river views from van but had to pay extra.

Excellent location by the river Wye. The setting is beautiful, although the small campsite itself is a bit tatty. Still, the facilities are excellent and clean. No charge to freeze freezer blocks. There is no shop on the campsite (other than the office selling cans and crisps) but there are shops within 5 and 15 minutes walk where basic provisions can be purchased.
The neighboring fun-fare is a noisy eyesore, but it usually shuts at 6pm. To be fair, our son loved having the fun-fare so close and really enjoyed the holiday.
Decent pubs and food nearby. Good location for accessing all of the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean

First of all I must admit to booking late for the bank holiday for this site and so was only too happy to go when the owner said she had spare places however . When we arrived at the main site we were told there were no spaces and we would be accomodated on their new site - the nuthatch - very idylic I thought.
When we arrived about a mile from the main site it was secluded , picturesque had plenty of roughly cut long grass with basic toilet and shower facilities - one drawback - it was about 50 metres from the A40. Now you couldn't see the road which is a major route between S Wales and the Midlands but boy could you hear it - all day and worst of all - all night.
This apart - it was a very friendly place we bbq'd - the site guard regularly checked all the guests and shared in our bbq's and breakfasts as he did with all the campers from what I could see of it and was extremely helpful - he even gave us a bottle of wine to try at our evening dinner.
The main site I can't comment on - the nuthatch overflow - looks lovely - but remember the noise - it was really the only problem the whole time we stayed there.

My partner and I visited this site last weekend (14/15 May), which we found to be well sign-posted and therefore easy to locate. The site is located beside the River Wye, is clean and well maintained by friendly owners. I did have some difficulty obtaining hot water from the shower; otherwise the facilities were above average.
After lunch we took a river cruise (boats depart at least every hour from just beside the adjacent leisure park), which was very enjoyable and reasonably priced at £4.50 per adult). Looking up from the river we could see Symonds Yat Rock and subsequently decided to later drive up to the top – the views from here are spectacular.
In the evening we visited “The Saracen’s Head Inn” at Symonds Yat East. Excellent food and a lovely location beside the river. The “hand ferry” still operates, now at a charge of 80p per adult.
During the remainder of our weekend we visited Coleford, Cinderford, Tintern and Chepstow – all within easy travelling distance. The weather was kind to us, which made sightseeing even more enjoyable.
Overall we had a splendid time and definitely want to return soon!

3 of us visited this site this last weekend, my parents, my sister and partner, my husband, daughter(aged 3) and me.
Site is directly off the A40 between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. 35 caravan pitches, 3 motorhome, several tents. Direct access to the River Wye, bike hire and canoe hire available on site. Follow signs to Leisure Park.
Lovely site, owners were very nice, parental types arrived first on Thursday and chose an area for the 3 units to be grouped together, and the owners had no problem with this. Indeed they even allowed us to pay a minor extension fee so we didn't need to "bang out" at noon on Sunday but could spend the day leisurely by the river.
Toilet block was aged but clean and showers (20p) were hot, canoeists using the blocks to change meant that frequent cleaning was required and I never once found them to be in a poor state. Washing up water was VERY hot and plentiful at two sinks in a utility room which also contained a washing machine (3 x 50p)
We went for a walk on the Saturday along the towpath up to the Biblins and back over the suspension bridge in order to stop at the tea rooms and pub "The Saracens Head" for some light refreshment!. About 5 miles in all on level but varied terrain following the river downstream. To avoid a long walk back there is a "hand ferry" across the river ( 60p adult, 30p child under 12) well worth the money to avoid the trek and also excellent to sit and watch from the bank.
Weather was glorious which helped, only downside was the large amusement park immediately adjacent to the site which had the latest chart sounds playing from about 11 am to 7pm, thankfully it seemed to shut at 8 in the evening so the peace and tranquillity was restored.
TV reception was very poor in the area but mobile phones worked well onsite. Otherwise mobile coverage is virtually nil in the Wye Valley at that point.
