The BIG downfall about this site was that the loos are so far away from the camp area. Apart from that, we had one of the best camps this summer at claylands. The playground was superb and the kids loved it. 2 minutes walk to the river which is shallow enough to paddle in. Showers and loos are immaculate, owners very friendly and helpful. Didn't really notice the pylon after an hour or so of being there. Short walk through a field to scorton where there is a spar for any forgotten supplies.

Spent 2 nights at this site for a weekend (Friday to the Sunday) with the parents who were in the motorhome. Our pitch was in a lovely position at the end of the hard standings on the grass area, as the parents were on the hard standing next to us.
The place had a pub on site which had a homely atmosphere to it and also served a decent pint.
The toilet block was lovely and clean and the site also had a fantastic park for the kids there as well. There was also a lovely river to the bottom of the campsite as well. We also fed some ducks at the front of our folding camper with bread, which was nice but funny when they just looked up at us for more bread when we stopped feeding them. Lol.
If I was to nitpick at this site it would be to say that the pylons that run through the campsite look unsightly and when it was raining or was damp in the air you could here the cables crackle a bit, but it never felt unsafe.
All in all, had a pleasent stay here and we would visit again.

AS we drove up the lovely country lane to the site I thought this is great then it hits you a great long wall of rusty corrugated iron right in front of the reception area! I thought we must have taken the wrong turn but the sign said Claylands. How disappointing.
I did have a few reservations especially after reading some of the reviews but decided to go ahead and book.
Like most sites with electronic access keys I had to pay £10 returnable deposit. Make sure you have some cash, I know most people pay by card but it you want to get out you'll need a key.
No one showed us to our pitch, which surprised me because the sites I've been to you're usually taken to the pitch and offered help if you need it. I was given a map with a highlighter marking our pitch.
Our pitch was right next to a pylon and it was such a let down especially having 2 young children and there is nothing sectioning them off. It's not nice to look out of the window and that be your view. They do buzz a lot and are really loud especially when raining - it must be awful if you are in a tent.
The noise from the trains is load too, even the huge trees don't do anything to muffle the sound. My son sleeps through anything but the trains even woke him up!
This site is mainly for statics which are immaculate and they seem to have allowed/tolerate tourers and tents.
It is really clean and friendly and although its big its not crowded.
Only paper recycling - unheard of these days,
Shop only open for 2 hours per day??! Make sure you take everything you need before you go.
Play area could do with an update too.
No plugs for the sinks in the washing up area, mustn't trust people not to flood the place?! Take a bowl.
Toilets/showers are not that far even from the touring field.
Best part was the ducks wondering round following the kids looking for food - idillic.
The pylons really put me off so wont go back or recommend.
All I can say is I must have been spoiled by other sites! Of which there are many more in the surrounding area.

Mixed views about this site! The surrounding area was lovely and the kids loved playing down by the river, the fishing ponds and the fields of cows and sheep kept them amused for hours ( and the husband!). The onsite pub was warm and friendly and the restaurant served good food. The showers and toilet block are one of the best we have come across.
On the downside, if you have a awning with your caravan there is nowhere to park your car except in front, thus resembling a carpark, not so great! Also NO re-cycle points, we had to bring everything home, though most people didn't bother. There was no on site shop to speak of and the nearest shop was a Spar approx 5 miles back down the A6.

We have just returned from another fantastic weekend at Claylands. The owners are extremely friendly and should be very proud to have such a immaculate site. The touring field is set out lovely with plenty of room given to each pitch. Theres a great childrens play area in the trees and if you fancy a walk you can through the woods by following the small river. There is a fantastic club house on site that offers wonderful food and great entertainment! If you want to go further afield within 5 mins you have a few good pubs. Overall this is one of the best sites available in the area and we will definitely be returning.

We stayed here for 1 night it was the best weekend ever, the site itself is immaculate and well looked after. Andrew was so friendly he even went and got some fish fingers for my friends vegetarian son and made us the best veg shepherds pie we have ever tasted, couldnt fault anything at all and we will definitely be returning as soon as we can. We would like to thank Andrew for being so kind and friendly and look forward to seeing him again.

Just got back from a weekend at Claylands, rang to book and enquired about the pylons which were mentioned in other reviews, Andrew was totaly up front and explained that yes there is a slight buzz especially when raining or damp in the air. We booked anyway and we are glad we did. The kids loved the adventure play ground, stream and mini woods and as for the buzzing didnt bother us in the slightest (even though it was meant to be at its worst when raining). The dog snoring in the awning was louder.
Toilets - very clean
Showers - Hot and as good as home.
Bar on site with an attached conservatory (Prices not bad)
Cost of pitch 2 adults, 1 child (6), 1 dog, Van and full awning on a service pitch £23.50 a night. (April 25/26 2008)
We will be back there soon.

Had one night here on the way home. We were right next to the toilets - which was great but I can see the point about the loos being a way from the tent area - I wonder why sites do that. Anyway I was completely oblivious to the pylons - I have just asked my husband he said 'Couldn't you hear them?? - they were buzzing away'! - well no I couldn't but that would be enough to put me off more than a night to be honest. However, I had the best shower I have ever had on a site - and we have been to a few! Just as strong as the water at home and a good flow - fab. Toilets properly heated too and beautifully tiled. Kids thought the play area was good. When we booked in the owner's dad was doing the stuff and he said 'welcome to Claylands.' - no-ones ever said welcome to us before - nice touch!

I wrote a review on this site early in 2003.
I have been returning to this fantastic site year after year ever since.
Picture this: After work on Fri eve, hook caravan up, 30 mins up the M6, wind the legs down, put the kettle on, get the tackle out for an hours fishing, pull a couple of 5lb carp out of one of the four lodges, when it gets to dark to see, you go back to the van to find a friend has got his guitar out strumming along with a cd around a log burning stove, the kids are all safe, either in a van ( of someones you know )or around the reception area.
A few drinks later you crash out in bed.For me on the weekends I have to work, I travel back down the M6, work until 4pm and travel back to arrive around 5pm to start it all over again.
This site is well run, clean, with excellent facilities. If you have not tried it yet then I strongly recommend you do. I AM NOT ON COMMISSION
And can say that this site is well worth a visit.
There are pylons overhead, but you do get used to them, they are NOT a proplem to me and my friends and we have been using this site nearly all summer since 2003 GIVE IT A TRY you will enjoy it

Been using this site for 26 years now,and every time we go we get the same feeling of total relaxation as soon as we arrive.
The club on site is a touch on the small side but has a good selection of beers.
Have read the reviews and I think some people expect to MUCH.
Just relax & chill out and you will soon feel the benefits of a stay at claylands.
The staff are great and will help you out of any fix you may find yourself in as will some of the residents who live in the static caravans.
People are asking for changes ,My opinion is dont try to mend something that is not broken.
Down the road is garstang with its pubs ,takeawys, shops, swimming pool and tourist information centre.
