August 2004 This site is a real treasure. Your turn up, pitch where ever you like, we chose alongside the stream, with rope swing, which attracted all the kids ( about 6) our 6 yr old thought it was great to have so many playmates, and they all buzzed off about 8pm so it was peaceful after that!! The owner sells logs for your fire, and will freeze up your ice packs if req. the facilities are fairly basic, but very clean. hot showers, good washing up facilities. The view are lovely, although you ARE in a valley, so its hillsides all round!, Everyone we met seemed very chilled out and friendly, lots of old hippies like us! the only downer was a bunch of people in a VW camper who had trance music playing quite loud and quite late ( after 2am) which we didnt complain about, thinking 'each to his own', but if we had been there for more than one night I think it might have been a problem!! we sat by our fire and watched the shooting stars.it was really lovely. The nearby towns of Lynton/ Lynmouth are well worth a visit, although the beach isnt very good. Plenty of pubs/ cafes and Exmoor is spectacular.

July 2005 Great little camp-site in a very tranquil location. I'm fairly new to camping, and what I liked about this most was the laid back attitude the owners have. No need to book, and if the main site fills up there are other fields that can be opened up. Plus, spaces are not allocated or marked, so you can set up wherever you please. The toilet block is small, so get in there early during busy periods, otherwise it does end up a little dirty and smelly on mornings when it's busy. The best part for us was buying a couple of bags of firewood and having a campfire. The local pub isn't bad (a bit of a walk though - 30 minutes), but the atmosphere and local beers are great. Finally, don't forget the Shetland ponies in the adjacent field. There's currently 4 of them - one mail and 3 females. The smallest one is the male. I asked the owners about this and was informed that he is in actual fact a dwarf Shetland pony, which makes him even smaller than a standard Shetland pony! He's a lucky chap though as he has three girlfriends.

May 2005 The site is in a very beautiful setting, surrounded by wonderful scenery. The fields are nicely flat and well drained. The facilities are very good. The showers are piping hot and free, and are kept clean. The owner is a local farmer, who can normally be heard whizzing around on a quad bike. The site is kept very clean and tidy, and we would definitely return. Access to the site from the A39 is very narrow, so might be a challenge for caravans. There were caravans there so it is certainly possible. There is a small licensed café by the river that does wonderful food, in what really is a perfect setting.

July 2004 Now this is a fantastic campsite set in the heart of the Doone Valley for tents and campers. The site is un-manned during the day except for the owner cleaning the toilets and showers twice a day.
On the way in to the site you pass through the National Park car park where you will see about 5 Exmoor ponies grazing - they bite though so be careful!
Through the gate and into the main field, level and plenty of space. We camped at the far left corner beside the stream, fantastic at night - the water was the only noise.
We did encounter some groups of teenagers but they were all doing their DofE awards so were supervised and caused no problems.
The fact that Campfires are allowed makes this place almost perfect. The owner (who is from Oaremead Farm) comes round in the evening and takes your rent £3.50/adult/night and £2.50/child/night and will sell you a bag of logs for £3. She's is very nice lady and has a heck of a job to do so keep the place clean! I would recommend this site to anyone.
