 Just wanted to say that this is about the best campsite we have ever stayed in! So many nooks and crannies to choose from to pitch your tent - you really feel part of the landscape -and what a landscape! Mountains surround the site with their breathtaking height and beauty. Deer roam around grazing on the bushes - stunning! The facilities are excellent: always clean and showers and hairdryers (for women) are free and impressive. The staff are so friendly and helpful and there is an 'Ultra Quiet Zone' if you do not care about having a fire. Campfires can be lit and the wood is free! We are definitely going back.

Just back from a short visit in our campervan- lovely well maintained site, with an emphasis on maintaining the natural environment. Areas for campfires are clearly laid out, the pitches are spacious and the plunge pool in the river was great fun!
The toilet block is new with lovely showers with lots of hot water- cost included in the site fee and clean toilets. There was a hair-drier in the ladies which worked well. There are also some separate toilets out with the shower/toilet block. A second ladies block appears to be under construction.
The site was pretty full but felt spacious. The other campers- mainly in tents- were mostly families, with well behaved children and dogs. Everyone was very welcoming and chatty, without being intrusive.
It's approx half a mile walk to the Clachaig Inn, which was very busy. The food was good, reasonably priced.
Just before the Inn is a gate which leads to a walk which takes you to the Glencoe visitor centre.
The only criticism I have of the site, was that although there was a list of places to go to from the site, I could not see any directions as to how to get there on foot or bike.
Great trip, lovely site, will be back.

Had heard great things about this site. So thought we would try it out for ourselves. Day we arrived it was torrential rain making a horrid drive there across Rannoch moor. Arrived at site to a friendly welcome and told to look around and choose where we wanted to pitch for the week. The site is huge and wooded and we found a quiet area to ourselves.
The toilets and showers are basic but clean and perfectly adequate. No shop on site but all you need is found in nearby Glencoe with supermarkets in Fort William.
Woke on our first morning to the most spectacular and beautiful views I ever experienced on a campsite!
Fires are allowed and are essential in helping keep midges away haha
Fantastic pub within 15 mins walk with excellent food and beer and live entertainment from bands, made to feel so welcome.
Highly recommend this site for no frills back to basics camping experience (take rock pegs)
No kids play area (that I saw) but woods and stream seemed to keep ones I saw entertained for hours.

Good location in a wild part of the glen, new facilities and great views in good weather.
Walking is good locally, bring lots of food and drink. Good new showers and nice management. Easy access from the main road with loch linnie only a short drive away. Campsite can attract the younger crowd but it kinda pot luck. Leave this campsite for fine clear days. Lots of good spots to free camp locally but its worth paying for the luxury of this camp

This site is beautifully situated amongst trees beside the River Coe, surrounded by mountains.
Booking is not necessary and when I arrived there were only two or three other campers, which gave a wide choice of places to camp. The ground can be hard in places so rock pegs are handy. Campfires are allowed.
The ladies' toilet block was basic but adequate, and the showers were lovely and hot. It is due to be replaced by a new block in November.
Part of the extensive site was closed for the winter, but there was still plenty of space to camp. Also the water pipes supplying the dishwashing sink and most of the water taps throughout the site had been drained for the winter, but this didn't cause me any inconvenience.
The staff were very friendly, to the extent of giving me a birthday card!
The little village of Glencoe is a short drive away and has a small shop and cafe. A few minutes walk from the site is the Clachaig Inn which serves good food.
Deer wander through the site and were grazing outside one of the tents one morning. During the night a stag could be heard bellowing on the hillside nearby.

We stayed on this beautiful site for two nights. We were given a very warm welcome on arrival by both the owner and a visitor. You can pitch anywhere you fancy and there are plenty of places to choose from. There are no EHU facilities and all pitches are on grass, which was in good condition. Make sure to bring your rock pegs as the ground was a tad hard in places.
The highlight of this site, apart from the stunning scenery, has to be that they allow real fires to keep you toasty and warm. There are lots of 'fire spots' dotted around which you can use. Make sure you bring your head torch if you make a trip to the toilet once it's dark and you will be fine. The ladies toilet and shower facilities were a little dated but kept very clean which is the most important thing. The gents block I believe is all fairly new.
The village of Glencoe is a few miles down the road but we did not venture in as planned. The novelty of sitting socialising round the campfire took priority! There is a lovely pub called The Calchaig Inn which is a 10-15 min walk away depending on your pace. They serve tasty food and even tastier real ales. We visited both evenings and it was busy but in a good way if that makes sense.
The site is open all year round. It was not too busy during our visit. It is used a lot by hill walkers and people meeting up to have a good time. We did not experience any problems with noise or disruption from fellow campers.
So. Will we be back for more?? You bet we will. I would highly recommend this site to anyone who likes the idea of 'wild camping' but with the luxury of toilets/showers and fresh running water.

This was our second time camping at the Red Squirrel Campsite. Pre kids and post with friends and their kids.
Beautiful surroundings, laid back attitude of fellow campers and campfires were fantastic. Stayed in the family area but still poor shower facilities especially in the ladies. My kids were scared of the water being too hot or too cold.
Felt that with kids we were classed as unwanted guests. Refered as a 'vulture' by a member of the staff for wanting a shower with my 3 year old! (something included in the £9.50 per night adult charge. Although the charge indicated on the website. Denied existed by the owner, yet it was the place where I managed to get the number to book because we had kids and it was the bank holiday) stated it was £7.50 per adult per night plus 50p per shower. This obviously needs updating or pulling from cyberspace!
The kids enjoyed playing by the river, climbing trees and riding their bikes around the site. The Clachaig Inn a very good pub with an adventure playground for the kids, about 10 mins from the site. Obvious excellent walks around the area! Would visit again but would definitely clarify how much it costs per night per adult before turning up. Go to the website ( not run by the owners) for the number to check!
Would love to rate this site higher, however, felt that the price didn't reflect the facilities. The beautiful surroundings and facilities outside of the campsite shouldn't warrant the price hike and bad customer care. Pre kids we had no problems. Now we have them felt a bit alienated.

I don't know why this campsite receives so many glowing reviews. For the price we paid, the facilities were severely lacking. The lady who took our money at the 'toll booth' like reception on arrival was very friendly and pointed us in the direction of the pitch. I didn't see any other member of staff the whole time I was there.
Campfires burned into the night, lots of noise well after the 11pm curfew and no-one around to care. The toilets and showers need to be updated ASAP. The shower alternated between freezing or scalding hot, was dirty and had mould growing on the curtains.
I still had a brilliant time in spite of all that. The scenery is some of the best you'll see. We also went into Fort William and took the train to Mallaig, journey was amazing. If you do it on a nice day, take a picnic and get off at Morar, just beautiful!
Had a good night on the Saturday too, courtesy of the pub along the road. Had a lovely meal and then were entertained by, not only the band that were playing, but also some of the dancing! Maybe go a bit earlier if you want to eat as it was really busy.
All in all a lovely weekend that was only slightly marred by the feeling of having being ripped off by an unscrupulous landowner

There are wee hidden gems dotted all over Scotland. And for me this is one of them.
If your looking for a back to basics, un-regimented style of pitching kind of camping this is the place for you.
Mens toilets have been upgraded. Brand spanking new on my 1st trip in April. Six people on site the whole week so no probs waiting for a shower or the loo. Though I concede they are a bit far from some pitches
Found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and adaptable on my visits.
Scenery absolutely stunning (in any weather). Wildlife in abundance (including Red Deer wandering through the site) added to the 'Getting Away from it all' sense that I had.
My two visits so far (April and May) I found the site to be quiet at night (some noise from folk passing on the road but nothing to worry about)
Clashaig Inn 10 mis walk away. Visited it most evenings and found a friendly welcome from the staff and a great atmosphere weather it was busy or quiet with reasonable prices for food and drink.
Plenty to do in the surrounding area. Though I have still to take full advantage of this. As the site's location and the lure of sitting 'Chilling' by the fire was too strong for me sometimes.
£9 per night for me as a solo camper seemed reasonable. But can see how families and groups might find it expensive.
I personally love the place. (still to see it really busy) and am now planning my 3rd trip there in as many months and hopefully many more to come.

This is really an update since my last review on the Red Squirrel. The owners have installed a new gents toilet/shower block and have waived the 50p charge for a shower. No other changes have been made (thankfully!) and this continues to be my favourite site of all time!
Now that the good weather is here, the site is beginning to get very busy at the weekends, especially the bank holidays. On a few occasions the site can get noisy at those times and sometimes you have to be prepared to put up with the noise of people coming back from the Clachaig Inn (an excellent pub with live music on every Saturday). A lot of the noise, however, is caused by people walking by to the nearby hostels and most campers tend to respect the no noise rule after 11pm.
The staff will come round after 11pm to extinguish fires so please don't get angry at them, they are only ensuring the rules are obeyed.
