This is our second visit to this site, after a disappointing first stay here. (inconsiderate neighbours) I was desperate to have a good stay here. We were not at all disappointed this time. It's a lovely site. We had a friendly welcome and were lead to our pitch. The shower blocks were clean and replenished. The neighbouring people were great, considerate neighbours (phew!) We had a lovely walk through the forest, following the old railway line. Apparently we followed a bit of the Pingo Trail (Or Pingu trail as my children call it!) Altogether, it was a really lovely weekend. Thank you Thetford.

Took the family away at this site and have to say even although the weather was drab at times the site more than made up for that.
Very friendly staff on arrival and throughout our stay, plenty space between pitches, very clean site, loads of room for kids to play, a very nice play park where all the kids seemed to look after each other.
Fantastic area to run your dogs which is fenced off so they cant escape.
The Forest walk next to the site was brilliant and our kids loved it. So far best site we have ever been to.

The last weekend of October and two nights of camping with friends, we expected it to be wet and windy; it wasn't either, which set the mood for a great camp.
On arrival we were met by a very helpful man who showed us to our pitch, hard standing (which it turned out we really needn't have bothered with given the weather) with EHU, he helpfully pointed us in the right direction to ensure we were camped with the common ground between us and friends who arrived later. Plenty of helpful hints were given and it was obvious that if we needed anything, asking was not going to cause any problems.
The pitches are a good size and well positioned for power and water with small lights in EHU point. Pretty well level, we didn't need to use our chocks and it appeared to probably not be necessary on any pitch.
The shower block (the second unit closed due to off-peak) was very neat and clean and well supplied with hot water. Never a queue and plentiful supply of paper, no having to bring your own or hunt for the cubicle with any left in. OK, it's a C&C site so maybe it's expected that this is taken as read, but given other sites it's still helpful to note (particularly when camping with 3 sons under 10).
The fish & chips van on Friday night was, as has been hinted by others, slow, but never served out of turn. Had I known the wait though, I'd have cooked as I planned.
I didn't see the shop, but Mrs HB did and said that it was a little sparsely stocked, but that's understandable for the end of season. Friends hired a TV aerial lead from reception, to ensure they were catered for with their X-Factor fix; there's no accounting for some tastes.
There is a good sized play area and field for ball games for children, or slightly bigger children who need to kick a football. It was far enough not to have children shouting in your ear and yet close enough to know what was going on, and it's all within the neat boundaries of the site as set by the woods and fences.
Being the weekend before Halloween, the staff were running a hunt around the site to collect details of various spooky stickers, all proceeds to cancer research; not essential, but a sign of extra efforts on their part.
We took a walk in the woods immediately accessible form the camp and the boys managed to run wild in safety and hopefully without disturbing the wildlife too much - though this isn't the true Thetford Forest, the woods are excellent and nice circular walks are marked.
Further afield, Thetford or Watton both have Tesco stores for any sudden desperate need for a major shop that you may have, but the real find for me was High Lodge in Thetford Forest near Brandon. This is a Forestry Commission centre which has massive walk and cycle paths, & loads of climbing and playing areas for children and plenty of picnic space, all accessed for the cost of the parking fee - £1. 90 per hour. If you want to go a bit wilder, there are Segways to hire to scoot around the forest on guided tours, and 'Go Ape' a high wire climbing experience among the trees for additional cost.
Returning to the site, access through the gate is via a keycode pad which is explained in the helpful leaflet given on arrival, you also get the code for free Wi-Fi if you've a need for such things.
Overall, a fantastic end to the camping season for us and though you may expect a lot from C&C sites and they are toward the higher end of costs per night, this one delivers in spades in regard to the facilities & location and the staff are very helpful and very attentive to the tidiness and appearance of the site.

It's our second visit and for us it has all we look for in a site.
There are miles of cycle paths and areas to walk your dogs.
We visited Thompson Water a 20 minute bike ride away up Peddars Way and enjoyed a picnic (t-shirt weather in October!) while watching kingfishers.
I agree with an some earlier remarks about the price and distance to the rubbish bins, but the facilities are clean and tidy.
The shop has all the essentials and there is a chip van on Friday night (take a book, it's not fast food).

This is our closest C&CC site so we've used it several times this year and never been disappointed, especially the weekend just gone (hottest 1st October ever!) The showers & toilets are always clean, although shut for 1hr during the day which is not always convenient with small children!
The shop stocks the basics but is quite pricey, but tesco is only a 10-15 min drive so not too much of a problem.
The huge play area for the children means they never stray far and luckily we have always managed to pitch opposite.
One slight downside is that there is only one area for rubbish which is located on the way out so a bit of a walk with a bin bag full, from the park.
Staff always very pleasant and helpful.
We will definitely be back again, keep up the good work Thetford.

First time campers, with a couple of friends who are seasoned campers. Couldn't fault a thing!
Toilet/shower facilities very clean, not busy, even though one block closed owing to quiet period. Pitches still quite busy, so astounded not to have to queue! No problems with hot water, even at peak time. Asking each user to mop up after themselves is a great idea, although I'm told that the boys aren't as good at this side of things as the girls.
Washing up hut - what a great idea! Again, never busy. Plenty of hot water. Lots of space for draining dishes and even somewhere to hang your tea towel while you wash!
Shop - nifty little on-site shop with the essentials, including tea towels and fairy liquid! Nothing seemed to have the price hike one would expect from 'convenience' stores, bravo! Keep an eye on the opening times though.
Staff - remarkably helpful. We arrived with no booking, and are non-members, but all staff were very pleasant and helpful. Supplied plenty of info on local area and pubs, plus details on joining the club.
Pitches - we were pitched right behind the dog exercising area, but had no issues with doggie noise or smells. Only small gripe is that this position still encounters a fair bit of road noise, which isn't the case in the pond area in the next field, for example. It's also right alongside the track into camp. But south facing, fairly quiet pitch, with shelter from bushes/trees.
Children's area - looked pretty good. We were travelling without children, so nice to be given a pitch away from playground. Only one small issue with small boys running wild in the toilets - fault if the parents, not the site. Although possibly a 'please supervise your children' notice wouldn't hurt.
All in all, a great time had by all. Highly recommended.

We have just returned from a weekend away, staying in one of the Jumbo Pods. They are simply excellent. What a lovely site, this is the first time my wife and I have visited a site in a forest and it was so well kept. The toilet facilities were very clean and it was nice to see wash basins in cubicles too, if you wished more privacy as well as the usual ones in a row.
The pods come will an electric oil radiator and 2 spots lights. My very minor niggles were; the on/off switch could do with being further down as you can't stretch to either put it on or off. And I feel the pods face the wrong direction as the front was always in the shade. But apart from that an excellent invention.
The children's play area appeared to be well kept and plenty to keep them occupied.
Another niggle! A bin in the wash up area would be an advantage, the closest one was by the toilets and the design didn't easily allow food scraps to be emptied in to it.
But all said I would still recommend this site to anyone.

We spent 4 nights here. It's a lovely, well managed site. As always for C&CC sites not cheap, but you get a lot for your money.
The facilities were clean and not too busy despite the site being pretty full. The staff were helpful, especially the chap who showed us to our pitch. There is a good information shed with a washer and drier which were the best I have used on any campsite.
There is a huge field for ball games, and another big area for children to play, and a dedicated dog walk area. Lots of green space all round. The site has wifi which is free, and a small shop selling essentials.
You can walk straight into a small area of forest (not the main Thetford Forest hence only 8/10 for location) and into the local village which has a pub (sadly shut in the afternoons which was when we walked in so I can't say what it is like).
My only, very tiny niggle, was the lack of information about walking routes. We asked and were offered an A4 photocopy of a map showing the green and yellow routes in the forest (black and white print out ) for which we were charged 20p !
Actually the forest area is small and you can go anywhere without the risk of getting lost. The green route is just over a mile and the yellow one longer. Both are lovely. Worth printing out from the walk4life website before you go !
The walk to the village was along a path which had a lot of nettles, probably easier to negotiate later in the year. We managed though.

Being members of the camping & caravanning club we knew what to expect and we were not disappointed with this site. This campsite is beautiful and immaculately kept. The pitch sizes are very generous and well laid out, with a mixture of hardstandings and grass pitches. There are also camping pods for hire.
The staff are very welcoming and informative and show you to your pitch and give clear instructions on how to pitch in order to keep a firebreak between units.
The facilities are kept spotlessly clean and we never had to queue. Just one slight niggle here is that both toilet/shower blocks appeared to be closed for cleaning at the same time, meaning for an hour each day you had no access to any facilities.
This site is very dog friendly. The surrounding forest is great with access directly from the site and has many footpaths for walking, there is also a designated enclosed dog exercise area on site, we have not come across this at any other site and it was a refreshing change to be able to allow our dog to have some time running of the lead.
The kids enjoyed the play area and there is a good sized area for ball games etc.
Small on site shop which stocked basic food and camping necessities as well as sweets, icecreams etc for the kids. There is a tesco approx 7 miles away.
Free wifi on site which was really reliable.
As usual a 10/10 for the C&CC, it's just a pity the club aren't in control of the good old British weather, we were treated to 24hours of solid rain whilst we were there, but the site is well drained and did not get muddy and we didn't suffer any puddles or flooding on our pitch.
We didn't venture of site during our 5 day stay so can't really comment on nearby attractions, pubs etc. We were there mainly to chill out and walk in the forest and we found the site to be very relaxing and quiet.
A fabulous site which we would thoroughly recommend and will definitely return to.

Because I'm rubbish, I arrived at the site without booking, and too early in the day for arrivals.
I didn't realise this at the time though, as the friendly and helpful staff found me a pitch, and showed me to it within a few minutes of me arriving.
I stayed for one night with my son. There was a small play area, a dog exercising area, and a separate recreational area, which I thought was a good idea.
The site was well organised, the showers and toilets were unbelievably clean and tidy for a site of this size.
Although a little neat and tidy for me, it would probably be an ideal site for small families. Handy little shop and great access to some woodland walks which Thetford Forest is famous for.
Me and my 11 year old son in a small hiking tent was £21 for the night. The pitch was huge, and I would prefer to have had the option of a smaller pitch, for less of a fee.
All in all, a good site, within nice surroundings.
