This site appeared well kept and if arriving late you were able to select your pitch and then pay in the morning. Bar on site, although we did not use this.
Just behind the campsite was a mobile home park which was fairly large and added a slight crowded feeling to the site.
The site was well lit and the staff friendly. Toilets and facilities clean and tidy.
There didn't seem to be many great dog walks within walking distance and so we often resorted to walking her on a lead around the edge of the site until we were ready to go out.

Spent 3 nights at this site. Very friendly welcome and owner pointed out all free pitches and let us choose the one which we wanted. Hard standing next to each pitch with EHU & water tap. Tarmac roads winds around site (not all straight lines). Nice bar but appears to only be open weekends, we planned to have a last night drink on the Monday but it was closed. Overall a nice site, but you need to drive whenever you go out as nowhere within easy walking distance.

Spent 3 nights here. Arrived Monday and managed to get our tent up before 9 hours of constant rain. Would have been a lot easier if the club house had been open. As the site is billed as having the club house, I was rather dismayed to hear that it wasn't open until Thursday night. Washing up facilities are not covered. Toilet block is a little old, but there are enough showers etc. There is a sign saying there is a mop and cloths, please keep them tidy. Site is staffed when we were there 9 am - 11 am and 2 pm - 4 pm. I don't know if this is all year round. On to positives, the site is well laid out, there is a tarmac road to all pitches and you do have a tarmac 'drive' to park on. Despite the rain we had, the ground dried quickly so we weren't slopping around in mud. The tennis courts etc. Located in the adjoining field did look good. The site was quiet and pleasant enough. You are in the heart of a beautiful part of Suffolk, with numerous castles, museums, Aldeburgh beach and it's great fish and chip shop and forests a plenty.

Just spent Easter 2007 weekend at this site. Very flat and open but that's what you expect in East Anglia. There's a small shop with limited opening hours and a very reasonably priced bar, again with limited opening. Static caravan residents and campers all given the same warm welcome by Amanda and Fergus and Linda? in the bar. Small but very clean showers with plenty of hot water and taps rather than time limited push buttons - there's even 2 rotary lines for your towels afterwards. If you want a quiet, away from it all site, this one is perfect.

An absolute delight - the people who run this site obviously care about the service they offer with lots for the kids, clean facilities, reasonably priced and well placed in the country for all the local attractions. 9.5/10 - only losing half a point as it is very flat -but hey, that's East Anglia for you - though a bit more landscaping/tress might break it up a little.

March 2005 First impressions mean a lot - and this site had obviously taken notice of its appearance. Set on an old USAAF WWII base, great use of the history has been made with a 1/3 size model of a P51 mustang adorning the parking area in front of reception and the club house. All your essential shopping can be performed in reception - with the usual mark up for convenience.
Both Tent and Caravan pitches are spacious, with plenty of room for all "activities" be they snoozing in the sun, or allowing the kids to play on their bikes on the well maintained and wide roads. (I presume a throw back to the aircraft days).
Facilities were certainly well maintained, with the Gents being notably cleaner than the norm.
The clubhouse is full of history (for all you WWII enthusiasts) with pictures of the airfields previous use by the US Military.
Pool table and the local tipple (Adnams) means a great time can be had, and the family friendly atmosphere is definitely an advantage that the Cakes and Ale holds above many other sites I have visited.
A couple of miles in any direction, and you are either walking/biking through beautiful Suffolk villages, in the forests and woods, or on the beach. Perfect for that getaway feeling.
All in all, a very nice site, well situated, and apparently well run.

August 2004 We have never been to such a structured campsite before - each plot is separated by a bit of hardstanding for your car and tarmac roads to each plot. This looked quite odd to us to start with but was ok. A fair number of trees and bushes around which, when they grow up a bit will make the place look less bare.
Toilet block was very well maintained with plenty of loos and showers and a washing and drying machine in each of the ladies and gents loos. Power point for using hairdryers - which I much prefer than site's own hairdryer. Only negative as far as facilities go was the washing-up area is not under cover and as it did rain while we were there made me realise how hopeless this arrangement is.
Very nice little bar with pool table and tv which kids were allowed in. Small swingpark and outdoor table tennis - take own bats etc. There is also a recreation field with golf driving thingy, football goals etc. Plenty of space to play and the roads between pitches make good bicycle playing for small kids!
On the expensive side - £8 per person including our kids who are 13 and 15 but now extra charge for gazebos or pup tents etc. We ended up on this site because others in area were full as we had switched plans from going to Cornwall at last minute. Am not mad about the Suffolk coastal area we discovered) so probably would not visit again but if you are in the area anyway then the site is worth a visit.
