I have just returned home from a two week holiday for the first 2 weeks of the school holidays.

What can I say that hasn't already been stated in reviews before?

It was a truly wonderful holiday. I experienced the first week with just my Wife and myself - the site was perfectly peaceful and restful to meet our holiday needs.

Week 2 my 8 year old Son joined us, after which we spent much of the week on site as my Son absolutely loved it here.

The location of West Middlewick was ideal for my Wife and myself as we wanted to fit in as much of Devon as possible before my Son joined us on week 2. The location suited us very well - with almost all major areas of interest within one hours drive away.

When you consider the excellent value for money this site is, then you quickly realise that your fuel money for the day has been paid for as this site is so much cheaper than many other sites in Devon (usually others sites focus more and how many campers they can cram in with little or no facilities on site to occupy your kids).

My Son for week 2 absolutely adored the place. He fell in love with life on the farm and took great joy in being actively involved in all the activities available to look after the various farm animals in the morning and early evening. My Son enjoyed being given some little jobs that he became responsible for eg: letting the turkey out of the turkey house in the morning and checking if the turkey had laid an egg! This gave him great joy and will form lasting memories for him.

My Son loved the freedom of cycling safely around the farm and sharing his day with several other children of his age on the spacious central field with football goals posts that were easily visible from our pitch to keep an eye on him.

Several lovely beaches for adults and children, but the best of them lot was definitely Saunton Sands - with spacious parking for £5 for the day, good cafe and food, beach equipment and beach hut hire, wonderful surf and rock pool areas and nooks and crannies for kids to explore under close supervision of course!

John and Jo (the owners) and their young family were all a wonderful family keen to make sure that all visitors to the site were satisfied with the facilities and they were always enthusiastic and keen to assist in whatever way you needed help.

10/10 to John and Jo for actively encouraging recycling of campers waste - a real pleasure to see this being done on a caravan site. John and Jo themselves take the recycling to be recycled as there are presently no recycling collections -that is true dedication!

Regarding cleanliness on the site. I feel that it was excellent. It is a working farm, yes, but John and staff regularly throughout the day ensured the public paths were kept clear, using the pressure washer as soon as they possibly could if a public path had become soiled. John gave this high priority and all farm staff know that paths are to be kept clean.

Toilets and shower areas were of a clean standard. I did suggest to the owners that they provide a mop and bucket for all toilet and shower areas for the many campers and caravanners like myself who are more than willing to clean up if their muddy boots have made a mess in the shower or toilet area.

Wellies are strongly recommended, not that it is particularly muddy, but because you won't be able to resist peeking into teh animal sheds to peek in on the adorable numerous animals on the farm - piglets, lambs, calves, kittens, rabbits ! We were thrilled to watch a new litter of piglets one week old and a new litter of piglets arrive while we were there.

Seeing teh freedom of the hens was wonderful - pecking around all day long and providing you wiht wonderful eggs available for sale on the farm.

A truly wonderful holiday. My Son is begging us to return next year, in fact he even asked if we can come more than once in the year. I fully intend to return next year if possible.

Go and stay here - you won't regret it!

We have just returned from our family holiday at West Middlewick.

Firstly I must say that I haven't ever left a review for a site before, but felt so led to start here!

We had a wonderful time, and the site was perfect for our two small children (8 and 3)

The hosts actively encourage the children (and adults!) to be involved in farm life. Milking time, feeding calves and lambs, collecting eggs, handling baby rabbits and kittens, even meeting a litter of newborn piglets who were born while we were there!

The facilities are fine. Only one male and two female showers, but my husband and son only ever had to queue once in the whole 10 days and this IS in peak season! I didn't ever have to queue!

You will need 10p's for the mens, and 20p's for the ladies showers, which may catch you out if you didn't know beforehand (we knew through these reviews!)

Our pitch size was huge. On the main camping field, each pitch looks onto the open green area in the middle, which is perfect for keeping an eye on the little ones playing football or frisbee! No 'playground' as such, but ours didn't miss one at all! We even had an ice cream van visit twice, which was a nice treat!

Supermarket 8 miles away (we used 'Morrisons') a local shop in the next village, and plenty of attractions within driving distance ('Diggerland' at Collumpton highly recommended!)

This is obviously a working farm, which was the main attraction for us. If you are averse to a bit of muck and an occasional smell, then this might not be your cup of tea!

We would all really like to come back here in the future, and speaking to our fellow holidaymakers, we're not the only ones!

Thank you to all at West Middlewick for allowing us to share farming life! Fantastic!

We spent 5 days at West Middlewick Farm and it was one of the best camping trips we have ever had! The owners were very friendly and let us join in with the farm duties.

We had great fun and will definitely go back. The tent pitch was spacious and level, toilet blocks were good, plenty of hot water and were cleaned every day during our stay.

Enjoyed being around the farm animals, got to help out with the lambs, cows, chickens and pigs. It was muddy at times but it is a working farm and all you need is a pair of wellies!

Great for kids, they can help out feeding the baby animals and there is a large green area where all the children were playing together making their own fun! We are a young couple and love the outdoors and animals so we were happy spending our time on the farm and learning all about farm life.

Everyone on the site was friendly and lots of people go back every year.We now know why and will hopefully be a regular visitor too! The log cabins are amazing and very big, we might treat ourself to a log cabin on our next visit! There's also B&B.

We do not have a bad word to say about this site, for us it was great!

The nearest large supermarket is about 15 minute drive away so you'll need a car to get around. Nice pub near by, in walking distance but on fast main road so we drove. Also remember 20p's and 10p's for showers and hairdryer.

What a fantastic site. We were greeted by the friendly owners who took us to our pitch and filled us in on all the local attractions. As soon as the tent was up the kids were off and fully immersed in farm life, collecting eggs, feeding the lambs and watching the cows being milked. We were glad we packed the wellies!

The site is well thought out with a large play area in the centre of the pitches, complete with football goals. The toilets and showers were cleaned regularly and there was always a supply of loo roll, hand soap and paper towels. There are pot washing and laundry facilities on site. The farmer did his best to keep the paths clear of poo, but it is a farm!

There is plenty to do in the local area to keep any age group satisfied and the farm's website has plenty of suggestions.

This is a working farm so come prepared for the sights, smells and sounds of the countryside. The site itself was really peaceful, the kids (or us)rarely woke before 8.

Having read the previous reviews we came expecting great things and were not disappointed.

We all had a brilliant time and will definitely return.

Stayed here for 2 nights on way back home. Won't be returning. Had read reviews beforehand and have stayed on many working farms beforehand but never on one that was so dirty. Arrived at 4 pm. and pitched tent - only one other tent in field and maybe 2 occupied caravans.

Went to the loos - 2 showers, one loo with washbasin. Floors filthy - but thought it was because of maybe a busy day - there had been no rain for days. Noticed that the rubbish bag in the loo was pretty full with paper towels etc. When we left 2 days later that bag still hadn't been emptied, the floors were still filthy. The ladies toilet block was not cleaned at all in the 2 nights we were there and neither had the gents.

The short cut we were told of by the owners to to the toilets was through a small paddock which had 2 cows in it - it was impossible to walk through the paddock because of the amount of cow poo which was all over the path and never cleaned off.

Also walking through the farmyard was difficult because of the poo - I appreciate that it was a working farm but there have to be some standards of cleanliness - particularly when the farm appears to encourage children to be involved with the animals. The site was swarming with flies and never got away from the stench of poo.

Farmer out working until after 10 pm and site was noisy until he finished.

Nearest pub about a mile away - Mount Pleasant Inn - pretty good food.

Tiverton a fair drive away - Morrisons and Tesco open until late.

Had a long weekend here and will definitely be returning. Children loved the farm animals and collecting eggs. The site owners are very friendly and keep the site nice and clean. Prices very reasonable.

Nice pub about a mile away in nomansland, and shop not far away in witheridge. Took our dog with us and there is plenty of room in the surrounding fields for exercise, dog must be on a lead in camping field.

Washing up facilities were clean with plenty of hot water, showers also clean. Take 10p and 20p coins for showers. Overall we were really pleased with this site and hope to return with friends.

Let me start this review by saying that I've been using this site for 5 years and until now have never left a review. Having spent 4 nights at West Middlewick, my family and I felt we had to break with that tradition.

We have had what was probably our best experience camping in 5 years at the farm.

I can only agree with all the previous reviews about how great this place is. The family that run the farm are lovely people with fantastic attitudes towards their customers and nothing was too much for them at any point.

The animals were a huge plus for our 2 children and our 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son loved being able to have real hands on experience with the chickens, sheep, and cows in particular. They were even allowed to name a new born calf around an hour old, one of 4 born during our visit. Collecting the eggs from the coop was a great bit of fun and feeding the cows and lambs was also exciting for them.

The facilities on site are quite basic, with limited toilets and showers etc, but I never had to wait for either. I think this is mainly due to the fact that as most people just stay around the site all day nobody is in a rush to be first into the showers etc in the morning.

For the children apart from the animals and helping out around the farm there is only a small football/games area to keep them occupied. So tell me why it is that we hardly saw our 2 children for the 4 days we were there. That said we saw our son for most of it as he was on the games pitch for most of it which was in the middle of the field we were in playing and having a great time with some of the friends he made, great to see so many of them making their own fun, like it used to be.

If you want bars and disco's then this is not the place for you, but if you like proper camping where everybody makes their own fun and your worn out from fun and fresh air at the end of the day, then please pay West Middlewick a visit.

We can't wait to go back there next year and find out how Seren our new favourite cow is getting on and to let John and his Family know how the kitten we brought home from there is settling in with us.

A few technical bits. For shopping there's a Morrisons and Tesco in Tiverton, 20 minutes away and a small Sainsburys 20 minutes the other way in South Molton. You are in the middle of beautiful countryside so, if you do want to leave the farm for a day out it's a drive anywhere really but worth it for the views and there are lots of options in the not too distant vicinity. There are ample electric points and water taps, a nice little shed with some tourist info.

The site is smallish and very reasonably priced.

All in all I urge you again, if you want a relaxing, friendly, proper camping trip then West Middlewick Farm is definitely your place.

What a campsite! Absolutely brilliant never saw my daughter (8) the whole weekend. The farmer and family are great had masses of time and patience with all the children. Whilst we were there a calf was born and bottle fed the lambs is really was an experience.

There were 2 ladies toilets, 2 ladies showers, 1 disabled, 2 gents toilets but only 1 gents shower, however, we never waited once.

Wellies are definitely recommended as it is a working farm!

What a site, first time on a working farm and I must say it was great. We had a good week for the weather and the pitch was fine.John and Jo so friendly and helpful as are the staff and friends.

What a good time to holiday when the piglets and calfs are due.

Toilets/showers not always clean but that's camping on a farm.

Lots of room on the site and well kept.

Will be going again you should try it.

The kids left this site with their heads hung low and a tear in their eyes. We all (2 x adults, 4 x kids(11yrs, 9yrs, 6yrs and 5mths)) had the time of our lives. This was a last minute decision to stay on a working farm before the summer holidays came to an end and we weren't disappointed.

Rather than review the sites facilities, which are all excellent by the way, I would like to comment on the way the farm is run as this is what made the holiday for us all. The daily routine consisted of milking and feeding the cows morning and night, collecting the chickens eggs, which are available to buy, feeding the pigs and calfs at lunchtime, keeping a eye on the two litters of 5 day old piglets (my little girls favorite bit), oh! and how could we forget the morning we travelled down through three fields and across a river on the back of the tractor trailer to collect hay! amazing.

We will definitely be back
