After buying a very large tent we wanted to go somewhere and try it out and this place was recommended to us and I'm glad it was because its a lovely place and will definitely be going back again. Upon arrival a man met us and told us to pitch wherever we wanted so we found a pitch facing the water. There were quite a few caravans and tents but with the choice of 4 fields it never felt crowded. There is a toilet block behind the back of the barn but no showers but we only stopped the one night so wasn't a problem. We just wanted a relaxing weekend and we found it, the kids could run around and explore and felt very safe. The ice cream man came round twice a day and fish and chips man on a Saturday night. There is a pub about a mile away.

Very surprised, visited because it was listed in cccmag as a temporary holiday site at £8. 50 per night. When we arrived 1st field was crowded but the very friendly man who ran the site appeared from behind the barn and showed us into the next field where we were able to select our own pitch next to water supply and with a view over Rutland water. He then proceeded to give us full details of the area, including nearby pubs and shops etc. The next day he came and took our details and charged the princely sum of £7. 00. No facilities apart from water and chemical toilet disposal. Excellent value

We only live locally but decided to come to Lyndon Top as our maiden voyage of our first caravan.
And what a stunning site it is.
We arrived to be greeted by the grounds man, very friendly guy who said we can pretty much choose where we wanted to pitch. He showed us the best field on the site which over looked Rutland Water and a field full of sheep! It was lovely.
The site has drinking water and some toilets which are located in the barn at the site entrance.
There isn't electric hook up but that wasn't a concern for us.
It is a really peaceful site but on arrival we were told that there was aVW rally in the top field which he said were playing music etc. We didn't hear anything at all.
Added bonus of a chippy van and ice cream van on a Saturday night (we had already eaten though. A little disappointed! Haha)
The site is at Rutland water so it is ideal for those who want to walk or cycle round the reservoir.
Highly recommend and we shall be returning often!

Definitely worth visiting if you are a proper camper. No EHU. No showers. No wash up areas.
Just a good old campsite with freshwater points, one portakabin toilet in a covered barn and many many acres of lush, flat grass to take your view of Rutland water. Turn up and leave when you like. £6 for the night, loads of space. Warden on site. Pub 1 mile, Cycle route 50m. If you are a well prepared camper, this site is ideal. 1st field is often reserved for CC rallies.

Just come back from a short break to lyndon top farm. We arrived early afternoon, and was met by the warden, who was friendly, polite and very helpful, giving us leaflets with info on the surrounding area.
The site has plenty of space, with some stunning views of rutland water. The ground is very even and the grass is well kept!
There is plenty of things to do and see near by, the nature reserve is just a short walk down the road, and normanton museum is about 3 miles away!
There is a tesco's in oakham which is only afew miles away! there are pubs a short walk away!
Right, there are a few downsides to the site and they are as follows, there are no shower facilities, or lighting in the toilets. But a lantern is more than enough light for a trip to the loo, this is due to it being a non electric site, but I felt that it added to the fun of the break.
All in all I would say that lyndon top farm is value for money. And we are already planning our next break there at the end of the month

Just returned from a quick getaway for the bank holiday weekend. Really liked the idea that we could turn up and leave whenever and the price was very reasonable also.
we were met by George who advised me the best place to set up camp. We chose to overlook Rutland water. The ground was flat and easy to pitch a tent.
There was a water tap nearby which was useful. The toilets was 5 mins walk and you needed a code to gain access. No lights and only cold water but always had loo roll. No showers but this is clearly stated on the website.
The biggest downside, there is no facilities to wash up. If there was a sink, you could boil your own water and rinse them off would have been beneficial.
Lots was walking and pubs in the area.
Overall a nice site and would return. However if you're staying in a tent then a couple of days would be most I would recommend, due to the lack of showers and washing up.

Went on the weekend(rally) to test the van out after a long lay-up. As the comments say below lots of space, the large site is divided by hedges, which is on a gentle gradient and elevated; The majority have majestic views over Rutland Water. Couldn't comment on the drainage but the ground seemed solid enough. A simple site without any frills- suited us just fine (me the wife and two 'elderly' teenagers + dog). We walked, cycled and relaxed ! Be warned though, at peak times (sunny bank holiday weekends) make the route around the reservoir busy, but their are sufficient eating and drinking facilities on or just off the trail to make it worth while.
You'll need to be self sufficient and as I don't have a generator to top up my electrics, a week, very unfortunately, would be my limit. Weather was very good to us and so were the members. Thought it was a little pricey for a basic site but that's the price for location, location, location. Going back again soon.

We have been to Lyndon Top on many occasions with the Camping and Caravanning Club as part of rallies. It is a good location, just outside the village of Manton.
The site is situated close to the Osprey Visitor Centre, which is just at the bottom of the hill and to commence a walk around Rutland Water itself.
The site is predominately used for centres of various organisations for rallies, as it offers a number of grassy fields for utilisation, a couple of which overlook the water.
There is no electric hook up, so you have to be self-sufficient but it is a good location for a weekend away and is well maintained. When the weather is windy, it can get quite exposed so make sure you peg down that awning properly!
You can stay on the site independently if you contact Lakeland Estates directly. You will find them friendly and respond quickly to your enquiry. This also give you more freedom as to where to pitch, which you do not have when going with an organisation. You will find the price per night is in keeping of that you would expect to pay for a Certified Location.
There are no play areas, so keeping your children occupied will be down to you unless they are content with playing football or enjoying the open space. The site is also on the Rutland Water Cycle route and so you can pick this up easily from outside the site, but children would find it difficult playing on their bikes around the fields as they are sloping in places and a bit bumpy.
You are also not far from Oakham, which is a nice town to walk around and enjoy the historics and there is a garden centre just down the road from the site.
If you are looking for a quiet location, away from it all then Lyndon Top could be for you. It does what it says on the tin.

A really basic site, providing only a tap and an Elsan point, which is geared up for rallies on the edge of Rutland Water.
While there is not much in the way of facilities on site, there is plenty to do and see in the local area. Just a short walk from the site takes you to a nature reserve on the banks of the reservoir. There is plenty of walking and cycling to be done, the circular path runs very close to the site, and bikes can be hired locally.
The town of Oakham is just a few minutes away by car, and offers the usual shopping facilities of a small town. Melton Mowbray is just a little further up the road, and has a market on Saturdays as well as plenty of places to buy pork pies.
We enjoyed our stay here, and are already making lists of things to do for the next time we stay here.

Basically this site is for rallies only.
We visited this site in August 2008 for a weekend rally with a caravan club we belong to. It is a big site with lots of rallies going on at the same time, but you are allocated your own huge rally field. I would estimate that there must be 10+ different rally fields.
We had 26 units and did not fill half of our field, hence each unit could have as much space as it wanted.
There are no electric hook ups or toilet and shower blocks. Water is supplied by taps in the fields, and there are Elsan points provided.
You do need to be self contained. All the fields seem to be flat and well maintained.
It is a short walk down a lane and you are on the banks of Rutland Water where you can walk or cycle around the lake, 20+ miles.
If you do walk keep you eyes open for speeding bikes.
There are villages around the lake with Pubs and Cafes where you can stop for food and drinks.
Towns local to Lyndon Top are Stamford and Oakham for supermarkets and shopping.
This is a really nice site as long as you go with an organised rally.
