This is one of the best sites we have visited. The toilets and showers are clean. It is very peaceful despite us staying in the height of season and it being packed. My only gripe is that the play area needs updating. It looks dated. However, on the whole the site is excellent and I would recommend it. We will definitely be visiting again. The shop was a basic camping site shop which stocked the relevant things that you want ie. Milk, bread etc. There is no pub on the site but I think this is a good idea given that it does get busy in the summer. There is a country pub nearby. The site offers bike hire which is great for the kids plus a putting green and tennis/badminton net. It rained quite hard one day and the ground coped with it very well. The site had good drainage for tents

Great location in Wareham forest close to the fantastic beaches at Swanage and Studland, Corfe Castle and the steam railway. We ended up at this site after a late decision to spend the weekend in Dorset enjoying the summer weather because we found most of the others in the area were fully booked.
Site is mainly fixed and touring caravan pitches and the camping field is down at the end near the forest. Toilets with free showers were close by, modern and kept clean throughout our stay. Site was family run and had a little shop for essentials, kids playground, paddling pool, games field with a tennis net and a mini golf course. Had a security gate system that prevented access to the main area between 11:30pm and 6am.
Only gripe was that when we checked in they had a system of directing people down to someone who was standing in the field telling people where to pitch. Although they had a 20ft from the nearest tent rule they squeezed us inbetween two others which probably wound the people already staying up. I could understand this if the field had filled up but on the Friday night there was plenty of room for us to have pitched well away from other tents on the border of the forest.
The kids loved the beaches and the rabbits running in and out of the forest at dusk so we may well go back next year.

Stayed at the Birchwood on the 27th July, this was me and my girlfriends first weekend camping away. We had a few weeks before stayed for one night at a campsite in Brighton just to see if she liked it . We had decided to go for a weekend somewhere a little further away, so off we went to Dorset. July was when it was really wet and most places got waterlogged. We had a calm day on setup and the campsite was really good and friendly, that night though it the heavens opened and we near enough had a storm gale force winds and blanket rain heavy enough to soak through most things. Especially the tent, the tent got thrown about in the wind and lashed by the rain, we got soaked but it was fun and a laugh so we decided we may aswell just get drunk so we went off to the Campsite shop. Sadly it was closed but someone clearing up inside had obviously seen us and opened the door and sold us some Alcohol. My only real gripe about the site is the fact that dogs seem to just roam about the site not really that good if you have kids. Great campsite, really brilliant and nice people, couldn't recommend a better site in Dorset and we did have a look about at a few.

We have just come back from spending a very peaceful week at Birchwood.
Birchwood is located in Wareham forest and makes an ideal spot for walking and cycling right from the park, Birchwood is also short drive to some lovely beaches and cliff top walks along the coast path.
We were located on a pitch at the bottom end of the park, which was very quiet. The top end of the park did look busy but noise did not seem to be a problem even around the play area, there also seemed to be some nice pitches along the forest edge.
The facilities were always clean and checked regularly, but were a little dated, the only problem we found was that there were not enough showers, there were only 2 in the bottom shower block and 4 in the top shower block, and for the size of the park this did not seem to be enough, so we did have to queue on most occasions.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and kept the site tidy and clean.
If you want peace and quiet with lovely walks on your doorstep this is the park to go to, great for dog owners with access to hundreds of acres of forestry commission woodland. We will definitely be returning.

Birchwood is a must for anyone wanting to get away from it all. This has to be one of the nicest campsites I have been too, the site was a lovely size and the pitches were well spaced out.
The scenery was fantastic, with the campsite situated in the middle of Wareham Forest it is ideally suited for walking or cycling in the beautiful surroundings. A detailed map of the forest is available from the very well appointed site shop and is invaluable for exploring the tracks in the forest. Bikes can be hired from the excellent staff, who cannot do enough to make your stay memorable. You can cycle straight off the site into Wareham Forest without having to go near a road, or cycle to Wareham, which includes some roads nearer this super town.
I first visited this site five years ago when I had a tent, now upgraded to a caravan, which I have stored on-site for the past two years.
This is the only site that I have visited with a security gate, which recognises your car registration – all very secure. The toilet block was always clean and the washing up facilities were also spotless. Thoroughly recommend the Silent Woman pub just down the road at Coldharbour, excellent meals and atmosphere served by courteous staff.
Linda and her team of dedicated staff should be very proud of the little piece of heaven.

We travelled down for bank holiday and hadn't book on any site before we left. Tried a few sites all fully booked and then stumbled onto this one (2 pitches left). Couldn't do enough to help us book on. Lovely little shop for milk etc in the mornings, clean toilets and showers and even as busy as it was never found that I had to wait for the shower. Showers were warm but not very powerful. The only thing bad about this site, was that we got eaten alive by the moscquito's so take candles spray and cream. The site itself was lovely, quiet by 11ish.

This is a wonderful woodland site which is great for the whole family,we stayed in a tent for a week and had a great time, the toilet block was always clean and the washing up facilities were also spotless. The other user's of the site were equally as pleasant and helpful as we were new to the area and were unsure of where or what to do. This site has a small shop which came in handy for the morning milk and paper, there is a pub The Silent Women just a short drive down the road where we watched a local group of Morris Dancers in action and enjoyed a bottle of the locally brewed beer. This was one the most brilliant holidays we've had for a long time at what we thought to be one the most spectacular sites.

This has to be one of the nicest campsites I have been too in a while, the site was a lovely size and the pitches were well spaced out too and easy to find. The scenery was fantastic , with the camp site situated in the middle of Wareham Forest. The facilities for the children kept them amused and the shop was well stocked and very well priced. The bike Hire and hire of all games equipment was also very reasonabley priced. The Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The toilets were lovely and clean, cleaned every 45 mins, the only criticism I would have is there werent enough showers in each block. The washing up facilities I Thought was bizarre as it was all outside so when we had our torrential rain and gale force winds at the weekend there was not a chance of washing any dishes. I would definitley recommend this camp site for someone who wants a nice reasonably quiet camp site rather then something loud and well commercialised, I will certainly be going back next year!

I agree with most of the comments by the other reviewers. The staff are lovely, without exception, the site is large and flat and well looked after. You can cycle straight off the site into Wareham Forest without having to go near a road. The piches are large and marked out and there is plenty of room between you and the next unit. However this site is let down by the toilet facilites. The toilets didn't flush waste away properly even in the middle of the night and the chemical waste point was revolting and unhygenic. I would go back to this site again if they advertised new facilities.

Having just stayed at this campsite for a weekend I have mixed views about the site. Its located in a lovely part of Dorset and is only a short walk from long forest walks and pleasant scenery. Unfortunately the campsite was not quite up to the same standard. There was some confusion when we arrived regarding our booking and it was even suggested that we would have to share a pitch with some family members who were in a Motor home (tight squeeze me thinks!) Our allocated pitch was covered in small bits of rubbish ranging from jagged plastic to crisp packets and was far from flat and bent most of our tent pegs. Admittedly the campsite was very busy but it did feel like it was a case of cram everyone in for the money which did lead to a noisy site until at least 2am. There didn't appear to be enough shower facilities to cope. Overall a nice site but a little more attention to detail could lead to an even better camping experience.
