We only stayed one night as needed somewhere near to a family member in local hospital. The 2 female members of staff were very friendly and helpful, and by far one of the friendliest greetings we have ever had! A very large site but pitches far enough apart and plenty of space behind you.
The facilities were in my opinion very dated and showers need a bit of maintenance (shower taps very stiff and do not turn off easily) Also only 3 washing up sinks so a long wait at busy times.
There really is only one problem with this site, and that is that it is much too expensive! £20 for club members and £27.50 for non members.

As a novice camper who has only recently entered the world of touring the campsites of Britain, I felt compelled to write a review of the Hertford Camp Site for those like myself who are new to this recreation.
The camp was booked at the very last minute and I found the whole process to be painless and straightforward. On arrival I was greeted with courtesy and given all the information I needed to carry out my set-up, apart from there was no water hose available to fill my integral water tank at the Motorhome Service Station. It was pointed out to me that this was a part of the Health & Safety Policy of the Camp regarding possible sterilisation / contamination issues. Lesson learned to bring my own hose on future visits.
The camp was very well laid out and it appeared that all the pitches and hard standings were on level ground. The amenities block was centrally heated and spotlessly clean with good hot showers and all the usual facilities one would expect to see (I guess).
An ideal woodland area was set aside for walking and excercising my dog and although I only stayed one night, the camp offered me the ideal location for visiting nearby family and formed a good base to start exploring the general area.
Well recommended and I will definitely be staying again for future visits throughout the coming months.

This is a great site. Had two stays here in March 2010 and one in November 2009.
Friendly helpful staff generous pitches good facilities well-maintained spacious site.
The toilet and shower block was really clean and warm which was nice as it was a bit nippy while I was there.
Wifi was fine - worked better nearer reception - not so good on pitches at the end of the site (I was on 61) but was told that would be the case.
Hertford is a nice little town (4 mins on a bike there and 10 back due to hill, walking maybe 20-25 minutes). Think that is the nearest for any pubs or shops - Tesco on edge of town (near Hertford East station).
Definitely revisit - thanks!

We visited this site on three occasions in 2009 and each stay was different, depending on the pitches we were allocated. In summer make sure that you don’t end up in the shade of Lady Baden Powell’s tree.
In winter avoid the hard standing pitches near the storage area (to the right as you enter the site). We stayed on these pitches over Christmas. The access road was treacherous, with 2 or 3 inches of solid ice that didn’t budge during our 4 day stay and was hazardous to negotiate on foot or by car. We were surprised to find that that none of the site’s roads were gritted.
Overall though, this is a very pleasant site. The pitches are spacious and the site itself has a park-like feel to it. There are some lovely trees (as long as you’re not in their shade) and an abundance of wildlife. The toilet blocks are spotlessly clean, warm and well-equipped.
It’s a 15 minute (mainly off-road) walk from the site into the centre of Hertford with all its amenities, but you’d never guess that the site was so close to town. The site wardens are friendly and helpful, as were the other campers we met.
We’ll probably visit this site again but next time we’ll be careful about the location of our pitch.

We planned to stay at another site, but it was fully booked we were recommended this site and we were pleasantly surprised. The campsite is great, the showers were very clean and lovely and hot although hard to turn off.
We walked into hertford town which was very pretty and it had a lovely safe feel.
There were lots of shops pubs and restaurants
We would recommend the woolpack pub and bollywood indian restaurant. Although quite a distance from our home we would have no hesitation in recommending this site.

A well laid out site, with friendly staff.
Decor in the toilets is looking a little tired, although all works well enough.
Small shop on site with general basics. They won't take your own ice packs, instead you have to hire theirs (50p ago) - which would be an issue if staying longer than a weekend.
Days out to farm in Lee Valley Park (not the best for our 5 & 7 year old boys - more suited for younger children) and to Paradise Wildlife Park (much better, take swimwear for the paddling pool).

Had a long weekend here at the start of the school holidays and had a brilliant weekend despite the dodgy English weather!
The facilities were very good and were cleaned daily. The showers were ok except very hard to completely turn off. Loved the fact that you have separate sink cubicles so could have a good strip down wash if wanted in private. Only 3 washing up sinks in each block so best to avoid busy times of the day. There were 2 toilet blocks and they were cleaned at different times so you were never stuck crossing your legs. Only 1 slide and swing but our children and their cousins and other friends (a group of about 15 kids in the end!) all managed to have an amazing time and we only saw them when it was time for feeding!
The staff were brilliant. So friendly, helpful and relaxed. No stuffy rules about gazebo's etc like we have had on some C&C Club sites.
There is a Tesco about 2 miles up the road in Hertford. Also a very nice chip shop, turn left at first roundabout after campsite and then right at next roundabout after the multistory carpark. Only drove through Hertford but looked like a very pretty, quaint town to visit. Also only 15 min drive to Harlow where there is a great Camping Superstore called 'Go Outdoors'. Also has all your other large stores like Halfords etc.
All in, very good campsite, and we will be coming back next year.

This was our first visit to a Club site and we were very impressed. Friendly staff, well kept toilet block, nicely landscaped site with plenty of room. We had a really enjoyable weekend, and as we live in London it was also very easy to get to.
We took 4 children between 3 and 8 yrs old (not all ours!) and they really had a great time. One reservation is that on one side of the site there is woodland with a large pond quite close to the camping area, so even with the older children I felt a bit wary of letting them wander out of sight. There is a small playground and room for ball games, etc. There was a rally going on while we were there, so the site was full, but still seemed spacious and no queues for showers, etc.
We didn't go into the town as we brought all our food with us, but the site is just a few minutes drive from Hertford.

Have I missed something or are our expectations getting lower? I expect a certain standard on C & CC sites and Hertford came up a little short. It wasn't due to the staff mind, as they were courteous and friendly. It was purely down to the facilities.
Apparently they won the 'Loo of the Year' award in 2007. If one and a bit seasons on leaves facilities so much in need of renovation, you would have to have deep pockets indeed to own your own site. Clean? Yes. Functional? Nope. The showers had adjustable heads but I still had to run around the cubicle to get wet. Hot water taps simply wouldn't turn off. The washing up area was a cupboard around the back where the door had to be propped open with a manky mop to make it somewhere pleasant to clean your pots and pans. The whole decor itself needs seeing to as charity shop, old fashioned prints on the wall and dusty fake flowers just need binning.
The children's play area was nothing more than 1 slide and 2 swings. If it hadn't been for bikes, I think kids would have been bored in a very short time indeed.
They operate a long term seasonal pitch type system. They seemed to have put all of the older and less looked after outfits in one part of the site and it just looked shabby.
I like to end any review on a upnote. This is a big site. However, it feels smaller due to clever landscaping and that is to its credit. Once its been looked at by the hierarchy, I'm sure these things will restore it to C & CC standard.

We stayed on this campsite for 2 nights with friends.
We were allocated pitches together and although told at time of booking this could not be guaranteed it was not a problem. The pitches were level with plenty of space for 2 large tents, 2 cars and lots of space for the children to play. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The children's play ground was a little disappointing and not very big.
The toilet and shower facilities were warm and clean and not too busy.
There was a very small shop on site but there is a big Tesco's just down the road.
This is a big site but gives the impression of being small as it is well laid out. It is well placed to visit Hertford which is a lovely town with a nice park. We visited Knebworth which was a good afternoon out but expensive and not value for money.
A lovely site and I would definitely return and recommend to friends.
