We visited this campsite for 2 nights at the May Day bank holiday weekend, as we were attending a friends birthday who lives in Carlisle. The site is small, was quiet when we were there, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
The site is generally quite nice, with a small play area for children and a central toilet / shower block etc, there is also a small shop which sells milk and other basics.
The showers and toilets could do with updating - there are 2 showers which are coin operated (20 p pieces - although I don't know how long this buys you as we didn't know in advance and so we didn't have any 20 pences spare to have a shower with!) There are also no 'cubicle' style sinks, so if you want to wash you have to do it in full view of everyone else! The first 2 days we were there there were no paper towels or soap in the ladies toilets (men's were fine), however this was rectified by late on Sunday.
You also need 20 pences to wash up with - there is only one washing up sink and that is in the laundry area (more of a laundry sink than actually a dishwashing area). This is not well set out for washing dishes, gets busy (as you can imagine) and I was unable to operate the hot-water meter on the last day (seemed to have a coin jammed in it). Also the shop didn't have any 20 p coins for change, hence we ended up never taking a shower between us!
We visited the Tullie Museum in Carlisle on Sunday (wet weather day!) which was excellent and the children thoroughly enjoyed it.
Overall, our stay was enjoyable and we would consider visiting again (with plenty of 20 pences this time!).

Since all of the previous reviews, this campsite is once again under new management/ownership. Having met the new owners I can safely say - no more surly/rude ladies but very friendly people who make everyone welcome. The site, as always, is clean, tidy and ALL visitors will find that the clubhouse is well worth a visit. From the start of next season, 1st March 2007, I am informed that the shop will be well stocked and not just for the benefit of the golfers. Our family have been using this campsite for many years now and look forward to our visits for many years to come.

We have recently had a 4 night stay here, and were very impressed. Great place to stay. A good base to explore the Scottish borders and northern lake district. A lovely place also just to chill out and relax. Great if you like a spot of golf, as it has a golf course adjacent, however even if golf isn't your thing, don't be put off by that , we never once found it to be intrusive in any way .
The toilets and shower block were always spotlessly clean and tidy , rubbish bins were always emptied regularly, everytime we took rubbis to the bins they were empty, and we were there over the late may bank holiday. A gem of a site . Will become one of our regular sites of that I'm sure.

What can I say its a lovely place, peaceful and quiet. We checked in and were met by a very surly woman who was just plain rude. Little did we know that she could get even worse. Showers were advertised as free but actually cost 20p for about 3 minutes, there was no toilet roll, hand soap or paper towels in the ladies.
"Pauline" the surly lady marched us out of the club house and wouldn't actually speak to us until we had moved past the door frame of the club house, as we asked her to open the shop we were then told to hurry up and be quick. To think that its people like us who camp on their grounds and pay them you could expect her to be a little nicer, but we will be back but we'll ensure that we have everything we need so we don't have to go to the shop, which by the way only sells golf balls, tees, pencils and other things that golfers need but nothing for the happy campers.

May 2005 This was our second visit to Dalston and we were rather disappointed. It had changed ownership / management since the first visit in 2003. We were 'greeted' by a rather miserable woman who complained that she hadn't eaten all day and was so busy. We were told that the bar was for golfers but we were allowed to use it but she couldn't open it till later and she didn't mention any food being available. She complained that we'd parked on a pitch even though there was no parking area outside the reception, and that she wouldn't have put us on that pitch as someone arriving the following day might want it. Couldn't see the problem ourselves as we were only staying one night.
Pitches and toilets seemed a bit shabby, but maybe we remembered our first visit through rose tinted glasses, or maybe we'd been spoilt having spent a week in Scotland. Other than that it was still perfectly adequate particularly if you want to use the golf facilities.

July 2003 Vey nice area, good food at the club house. Real affordable pitch fees, great for tents as well as caravans!
