Just returned from Newhaven having spent 3 nights there and can only say that we found very little wrong with the site. The weather was dry so we had no issues with muddy pitches or other weather related problems. The site was reasonably quiet both day and night.
The toilets and showers were a little old but perfectly alright apart from water being too hot or too cold on different days. The boiler was about to be sorted as we left. There was a queue most days for the washing up area so a couple more sinks may help. The play area was a little basic.
The staff were very helpful. We had a laugh with Paul who joke with us everyday. Ashbourne is definitely worth visiting, along with Buxton, Bakewell and the whole of this area.
We chose this site because it was cheaper than some other sites in area and we feel we did get value for money.

We have just spent a week here. Must say it was quiet for a Double Bank Holiday week and very good value.
On the down side, I didn't feel welcomed by the Wardens, no site information handout was given on arrival, Shop/Office wasn't always opened as per their time table.
The toilets and showers could do with updating and we did seem to be very very close to the caravans each side, though the Seasonal residents seems to have loads of space to which they proceeded to close off but use of tacky windbreaks.
Carriages Restaurant over the road was absolutely lovely but expensive.
Though this was quite a tidy site we will not be going back.

We chose Newhaven as it had the all the facilities we needed and its great location for our planned trips / visits etc. We only booked for one week had had a good time in Derbyshire. The site was very easy to find, we had a good pitch c/w ehu and was close to toilets, water, elsan points. There was also a small shop on site for all your basics. The site is hilly / sloping wouldn't recommend for tents only in the lower area, the toilets were out dated and only cleaned once a day this was around 11am. Good point was the showers were hot & free. We were packed in, we asked staff which fell on deaf ears. The kids playground was poor, the kids couldn't play ball games as there were caravans and tents located near the same area. The pub across the road, Carriages was expensive, we found a pub in Biggin about 5 min drive, which I would recommend for families. There is also a petrol station near the site. This site is ideally located for Ashbourne / Buxton / Matlock.

Just got back from Newhaven. Its a lovely site however, there were a couple of bad points.
On the way back we received a phone call (3 members of our party got a call) from the site, regarding how we left our pitch! We refuted the comment, as all 11 of us pulled our vans off the respective pitches and did a final 'sweep'.
We found the toilets not as clean as they could have been (missed for 2 days midweek). However very child / pet friendly. Had a rat in our awning on the last morning. No joke!
Site had poor drainage and puddles appeared after light rain. All in all a nice site.

The campsite is great for families and the staff are extremely helpful. We only stayed for a weekend but will definitely be coming back. My daughter and son loved the play area.
The only criticism is that we should have pitched our tent in the top field as the pitches in the bottom field have hardcore drainage 4 inches under the turf so the tent pegs will only go in at a very acute angle.
The nearby pub as stated on maps is not really a pub (its a cafe come restaurant with a bar) and does not open in the evenings. But the on site shop does sell beers by the can and wine if you fancy a tipple!

We picked this site because of the location. We arrived on site on lunch so the shop & reception was closed, so we chilled until 2pm when we booked in and was escorted to our pitch. The site was full as it was Bank holiday week so I'm glad we booked!
The pitch was slightly sloping but not too bad. The owners were friendly & helpful, I needed some bricks to level our cooker & the warden was very helpful & showed me where to get some. The site is enclosed by lots of trees so you don't get much wind.
The showers & toilets were cleaned regular but the water went cold by the end of the day so we had showers in the morning. There was a play area in the top field & shop for stuff like milk etc. The area was great we had been to Derbyshire before but not this site.
There used to be a Hotel across the road but this had shut down & it looked like someone was converting it into houses? There was a pub about a mile away over the fields nice walk & a good pint! Cant remember the name of the pub or village! Overall a great site & we will probably return next year.

This is a lovely site and the facilities are good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our visit was at the beginning of the school summer holidays and the site was very busy.
There are some lovely places to visit and would highly recommend a day in Buxton.
I would definitely visit this site again but not in the school holidays.

We stayed on this site on a fully-booked Bank Holiday and yet the blocks (only 2) were cleaned only once per day. The users of the bottom block were clearly ignorant people with no care for others but the Site Owners should have noted this and cleaned twice per day. The showers need upgrading and perhaps owners should try using the swinging shelf and have a shower when people are flushing loos and washing hands and see if they (a) get any hot water and (b) whether they can balance their toiletries long enough to get wet. We were pitched on a hill and spent 3 nights fighting gravity.
The site itself was very pretty and well kept and the area is stunning - would highly recommend Hartington for breakfast and Youlsgrave for tea. Unusually our children spent the whole weekend at our ankles as they had nothing to do - a few swings didn't do it for them.

We stayed here for 3 nights and used it as a base to visit the Peak district. It is a very well kept site with friendly and helpful staff. The facilities are always clean and the grounds kept in good condition. Great pubs nearby with good food.
The Duke of York does great food and Poole Cavern in Buxton and Go Ape is a must see. We will be returning there for sure.

We have stayed on this site on several occasions and have always found it to be excellent.
Staff are helpful and friendly and the site is always clean and tidy and the facilities on site are of a decent standard.
Located close to Dovedale this is an ideal base to walk in some lovely countryside.
Hopefully we will get to stay here many more times over the years ahead.
