Just returned from a weeks stay at this site. On the whole a fantastic place to be. The setting is perfect on the loch side which is great for spending time on the water.
Terraced tourer section is a bit of hassle when setting up as you need to push, pull or use a mover to locate the van, which, as the ground is stones it takes some efrort. Pitches here are also close together but there is lots of space in front of the area for play etc.
Toilet facilities are clean, well maintained and warm. There is another block on the tent field which is also well kept.
The on site shop is well stocked with essentials but is expensive. You can also buy fishing gear, bait and caravan fluids here. The nearest decent supermarket is about 8 miles away.
There is a playground/assault course for the young ones and a table tennis table on the front field.
The staff are all friendly and helpful. Mungo always appears to be on site and available to help when needed.
A nice touch is the on site food van. Not just a burger bar - Lamb Shank! Scampi! Indian selection, steak. You get the picture?
A little drive out takes you to National Parks, beaches and stunning scenery.
We'll be back again soon - just got to decide when!

This is a very organised campsite in terms of pitches & activities. We stayed for one night - we were booked in for 2 but friends invited us to stay with them instead. It was a good campsite with decent, clean facilities. We had a hard standing pitch but would have preferred a grass pitch with electric - it didn't look like they had that type of pitch. Tent area was huge! Seemed to be a huge number of activities - particularly watersports. We wouldn't come back to this campsite but that is only personal preference - it seemed like a very good campsite!

We booked this site after seeing it highly recommended online - the reviewers were spot-on!
We were able to select from several options but chose a pitch within twenty feet of the Loch; the location was perfect - peace and tranquillity!
The site is very well run; the toilet and shower facilities are clean, the on-site 'chip van' (that name doesn't do justice to the wide range of dishes available) is a welcome unexpected bonus and (at the time we were there)
The Saturday night Rod Stewart tribute act was a great antidote after what had been a very wet day up on the hills in the Galloway Forest Park!

Had a three night stay at this site at the start of our grand tour of Scotland
Have to say the tent field was a picture with the loch centre stage
We have electric hook up so were limited as there are only a small amount of points on the field but this did not detract from the wonderful views of the loch
The toilets and showers were in a large Portable cabin on this field but were clean and showers were hot - you could use other shower units on the hard standing side of the site if you wished but did not really need to
Went to see the Red Kite feeding at 2pm at the end of the loch a great sight to see
Also had a very good evening meal at the Loch Ken Hotel a few minutes in the car to the left of the entrance to the site - can recommend this for a meal delicious

Just spent a lovely relaxing(but cold for May!) weekend at Loch Ken Holiday Park.
Very big and flat tent field. You were allowed to pitch anywhere which was good. Showers spotless, modern and toastie.
Washing up facilities also good with loads of hot water. Great site for kids as there were a couple of good adventure play areas - also ducks with ducklings and swans in the loch.
Friendly and relaxed staff which was an added bonus. Good little on site shop too for the basics.
Would advise booking well in advance if you want an electric hookup (they only have 10 for tents).
We booked 3 weeks in advance and couldn't get one as they were all reserved.

This a mixed site, with static and touring caravans, and tents. The setting is fantastic, on the banks of Loch Ken.
The site is very nicely laid out, though the touring caravans looked like they were packed pretty close together, all on gravel. The site is clearly well maintained, and the bin areas etc were all very tidy. The site has lots of thoughtful touches, such as giant chess and a table tennis table, as well as various play items for children (swings etc). There were also boating activities available, although I didn't use them. There is a little shop on site, which sold a few basic items.
I was in a tent. The tent field is massive, and you could pitch anywhere if you didn't want electricity (there were some hook up points, but not that many), so spreading out wasn't a problem - though on a very busy weekend the far side of the tent field is a long way from the facilities. I had some trouble getting the pegs in, but I think that was due to the hot and dry weather preceeding my visit.
The tent showers / toilets were in portable cabins at the top of the field (please don't be put off by the description 'portable cabin', as these were the poshest portable cabins I have ever seen). They were very clean and well attended. There was always lots of toilet paper and paper towels. The showers had proper trays and screens so that nothing would get splashed, and were free. There was no electric socket in the shower block.
There was also an under cover dishwashing area in the tent field, with hot water.
There is very little site lighting at night, meaning that the tents were dark (great), you could see many, many stars (fabulous) and finding your tent after a midnight loo trip was nigh on impossible without a torch!
The only slight draw back was that the site is next to the main road that runs up the side of the loch, and vehicles were clearly audible on the tent field. However, the road is pretty quiet for an 'A' road, and traffic definitely decreased at night. I can honestly say it didn't bother me but more sensitive / lighter sleeping people might have an issue. The main road did mean there was good access to explore the area.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site.

Absolutely fantastic site! We've just returned from a week there with the kids during Easter break. We were very impressed by the location and the excellent atmosphere for families. There are pedalos/canoes/rowing boats for hire which the kids absolutely loved. Also a couple of play parks with wooden climbing equipment. The toilet/shower blocks (of which there are 2) are the cleanest I have ever seen in 8 years of caravanning - beautiful. We particularly liked the shower cubicles - they had a toilet and washbasin in the cubicle with a separate shower enclosure - plenty of room for getting ready.
The staff are very friendly and helpful - we had a problem with the power one evening - it kept going off - and the staff came out at about 9:00pm to try to source the problem. It turned out to be a fault in a fellow campers electrical equipment - the fault was isolated and all returned to full power. The staff were extremely pleasant even though it was dark and very cold at the time! The only thing which could have been better was the weather! Even so, we all had a fantastic week and would definitely visit again. Highly recommended!

We've just came back from a two night stay at Loch Ken, nice days and very cold nights being the weather on offer.
This being our second visit (Sept last year), it was nice to see that the owner Mungo has made a significant investment to many areas of his beautiful Holiday Park. We were a party of 4 adults and four kids ranging 9 - 3 years old and being tent campers, we were chuffed to see the new dish washing cabin at the top of the field situated next to the immaculate toilets and showers. Being the second week of the Easter holiday the park was fairly quiet so we often had the facilities to ourselves. Some extra EHU's have been installed in the tent field too which will give options to many more campers.
The shop area is the real hub of the park. Tourist Info, a coffee machine, a decent offering of groceries and bike and boat hire are all to be found here. There are additional toilet and shower facilities in this area too. There's also a snack van open for breakfast and dinner although we did all our own cooking so can't comment on it.
The kids all had a magic time on the numerous climbing frames, swings, chutes, rope swing and many other little bits and pieces to attract their attention. We also did some fishing. This involved a two minute walk from our tents to the idyllic banks of Loch Ken. What we caught is another story!
So all in all, whether you want a base for all sorts of adult adventures, a great place to take the kids for some outdoor appreciation or somewhere to kick off the boots, sit back, relax and watch the shooting stars at night with a glass of Merlot - then Loch Ken is place for you.
You'll be made to feel welcome, you'll be aghast at the views and you'll surely feel entirely unwound by the time you're leaving.

We came for a Monday to Friday stay the week after Easter, 4 adults and 5 boys between 3years and 9 years old, travelling up from Manchester. There was plenty of space in the tent field for camping and playing, and the children seemed able to get on either the climbing frames or swings when they wanted to.
There were adequate water taps, and a lovely hot water washing up cabin with 4 big sinks, which we never saw a queue for. In the tent field there were 2 portable cabins, one mens and one womens, which each had 3 good warm showers, 3 WCs and 3 basins in, all of them very clean. I think if the campsite was busier the 3 WCs would often have queues for them, but the only time we had to wait was when we took all our boys at the same time before meals and at bedtime.
Apart from one 2mile walk over the road and up the hill, we took all our trips by car and so did our shopping in supermarkets in Dumfries, Castle Douglas and Newton Stewart, but the on-site shop had a bit more than the basics, and there was a weekly fresh fish, fruit and veg van that we heard about but didn't look out for. There was a hot food van that opened for breakfast and evening meals, but we didn't look at what they offered. I couldn't place the nearest off-site pub, restaurant or shop.
There was a laundrette, one machine used coins but the other one and the dryers used tokens from the shop (which shut at 7pm). The machines did a good job. The shop only sold washing powder in (small) boxes, if we'd thought about it beforehand we'd have packed a few washing tablets for the one wash we had to do. There were electrical hook ups in the tent site, we didn't need them, but we heard TVs in other groups' tents.
The staff were friendly and helpful whenever we had to ask a question and there was an info room that was always open for local information.
We had a good week, despite going below freezing every night and raining a lot every single day. If we went back to that area we'd stay at Loch Ken Holiday Park again.

This is a lovely, scenic site with great facilities in a very peaceful area, with a charming and attentive owner. Being early in the season, there were very few people about, which suited us as it was very quiet. As previous reviewers have said, it's got everything you need - hardstanding pitches, great for out of season, really good toilet block, dishwashing facilities, shop, children's play area, lots of activities such as canoeing. It's all extremely well looked after too.
We only had a couple of days and know the area anyway, but you are close to Castle Douglas, New Galloway, Dumfries. We even had a day out to the Isle of Bute - two hours in the car to get there, then the ferry, but well worth it. Enjoyed just sitting on the campsite watching the scenery and red kites. Great breakfast from local produce at Scottish pantry in Castle Douglas! Only one very minor minus point, not sure if it would be our kind of site if it was very busy. But that's a personal thing.
