This is our second visit to a Camping and Caravanning Club site and as expected the site and facilities are well maintained.

Unfortunately the layout was disappointing with the tent field the furthest from the toilets and dishwashing facilities. The caravans and motorhomes were right next to the block! Poor planning like this for a Club site is disappointing. However the site does open a dawn-till-dusk toilet (in a shed) next to the tent field for night visits.

We saw the grass being mown before a new pitch arrived and toilets were always very clean. The women's toilet area has 3 showers and 1 family room shower. There were often people waiting. My husband told me there are 6 showers on the male side.

Although the camp managers, Denise and Gabriel, were friendly, they didn't offer us any information about the site. We had a dog and they didn't tell us where the dog walk was, we discovered it ourselves on our last day. They didn't tell us what time we had to leave the site or if there was a 'curfew' for quiet.

It is important to note that this site it not in Ashbourne and is 3-4 miles outside of the town. Crasington Water is 2-3 miles away. There are no shops close to the site for the purchase of provisions although there are a few bits available to purchase from the camp reception.

Not a bad site but one we won't be returning to because of the poor layout for tents and the average location of the site.

Just spent Friday and Saturday evening at this site and having been a little apprehensive after reading some of the other reviews were very happy with the site.

As others have said the tent field is the furthest from the entrance and is a little uneven and on slope. The ground was a little firm underneath but not too bad on the whole - only struggled with a couple of pegs!

The toilet/shower block was fairly new and the facilities were excellently looked after. Although situated away from the tent area it was only a few minutes walk away.

The 'night loo' to the side of the tent field is basically a wooden shed with toilet/sink and was also clean and well looked after (no smell as mentioned in a previous review).

All in all enjoyed our short stay and will no doubt return.

We spent a very nice weekend at this campsite recently. The pitches for tents are very spacious so even though the campsite was full, it didn't feel busy. The setting was lovely and peaceful. You are better off with a pitch on the side of the camping field which gets the sun in the evening (to accompany your glass of wine) and not in the morning (to warm up your tent too much!).

The toilet blocks were very clean, and we didn't have a problem with queues. There was a family shower room in the ladies which was very helpful for me with a two year old.

Also handy was a night-time toilet 'hut' for campers, just next to the camping field so you didn't have to go to the main blocks at night (that said, it is not a big site so it didn't seem very far anyway!).

There was a really lovely kids play area with a castle/slide/swing type thing, and an area for football.

We spent a day at Sudbury hall, a National Trust place about 20 minutes drive away. It is also near Carsington Water, where we had sunday lunch in a pub. If we had longer there would have been plenty more to do, and I noticed the campsite had a tourist information hut though we didn't have a look.

Overall, small, friendly and a good location.

A pleasant enough little site in an area of outstanding beauty although we would agree with other reviewers that the layout is silly. The pitches closest to the facilities are hardstandings (therefore attracting caravans and motorhomes) whilst the poor tent campers have a lengthy walk with their crates of washing up!

This is the school holiday period so the 3 showers and washing up sinks were in heavy demand. We found the 11.00 pm rule was well observed. Before that it was just the normal sound of excited children running about - what else would you expect on a family site?

We stopped off here for a night on our way down to the West Midlands and stayed on this well run site. The motorhome & caravan pitches are all terraced and well set out round two fields with the third, we thought, mainly for campers.

The site has 50 pitches in total and wasn't full so the one toilet block was more than adequate. It was also very clean, freshly built and kept spotless by the site management.

We know the area well having lived not too far away for several years and for anyone looking for more strenuous activities, Carsington Water with windsurfing, cycling, sailing, birdwatching & general walking is only ~3 miles away. If you are looking for peace and quiet or pleasant strolls both are available straight off the site.

Easy site to find travelling south from Wakefield for a 2 night stay as a base for walking in Dovedale

Pitches were a bit small with very uneven ground (and I'm used to some fairly rough camping)

Toilet and Shower block was very clean. However, you should expect to queue for the shower when the site is busy any time from 6pm to 10pm

Despite the proximity to the main road, the site enjoys peace and tranquillity with some lovely views

Overall we were quite happy with this site but have a few issues like others have had. Our first disappointment was on our arrival when there was no sign of anyone around to greet us. Apparently there was a small piece of paper hung up saying the wardens 'were somewhere on site' but it was that small we didn't see it and when they are expecting arrivals on a busy Friday afternoon we expected someone to be around, we have never had the same problem on other CC sites we have visited.

We stayed in a tent and the ground was very hard and uneven. Also the tents were the farthest away from the facilities which we found a little odd and it was quite a walk to and fro from the toilets especially when you have small kids that want to 'go' all the time! Unlike others though we found the 3 showers to be enough and never queued once and the facilities are spotless, the best I've seen.

The other issue is that its on the Manchester flight path and on the Friday evening sleep was limited due to planes flying overhead every few minutes. You can also hear the main road.

On the plus side of things the play area for the children is good with a whole big field for them to run around in. Probably visit again but I wouldn't stay for more than a weekend. Not one of our top sites!

The site is split into 3 areas. The two areas nearest the entrance and facilities block are for caravans, motor homes, etc. The camping field is the furthest away. This doesn't normally present a problem, but it was quite a long walk, and although a night loo (about half way between the camping area and the loo block) was open from 8pm, carrying dirty dishes to the washing up area was more of a problem. Plus there were only 3 showers so there was usually a queue.

I was disappointed with the state of the camping area. It was very rutted and in need of a good grass cut, but on the whole the site is very nice although just off a main road, and further from Ashbourne than I thought it would be. The shop is well stocked with local meat products and ice cream.

My biggest issue with the site was, after having requested a quiet pitch if possible, we were sited next to a party of 6 families, all with young children. You can imagine the noise - we thought we'd camped in the school playground - it really ruined our stay. When we commented on it the next morning to the wardens,we were given fairly short shrift. Apparently any amount of noise is acceptable before 11pm.

Anyway, mid week, out of school holidays, I can imagine the site is lovely, but we won't be returning I'm afraid.

The site and wardens were very good, until you came to the tent field, we were very disappointed. The pitches were not level and grass quite long, felt like second class citizens to the caravan and motor home guys, perhaps we have been spoilt at other club sites

Location good and toilet block spotless, as stated the surrounding countryside is superb, many lovely villages and towns with plenty of eating outlets to suit all pallets

I agree with all the comments about the amenities, they were spotless, as was the whole site, and the recycling was excellent, bins for everything.

I had booked a grass site not realising that the only grass sites with electricity (5 hookups I think) are on the tent field which is the furthest from the amenities and all there was in that field was drinking water. I didn't like the way you were pitched away from the roadway, it felt backwards but I suppose the view was better. The ground was absolutely solid and the grass sparse and obviously hadn't been cut for a while.

I wasn't keen on the dog walks, either. One was a largish field totally overgrown and with a sign saying 'Danger, deep water' (you couldn't see the water) so I couldn't let the dog off the lead. Lots of biting creatures, too, because of the water. The other dog walk was very small and not completely fenced off from the site or the adjoining field.

If I went again, I would definitely book a hardstanding pitch.
