I cannot agree with most of the reviews below but will try to be objective.
This is a privately run site on the Yorkshire Moors. It's on the site of the old railway station and still retains some of the buildings which are holiday lets.
On arrival you go on the drive and see a profusion of flowers, mostly begonias then a barrier beyond onto the site proper.
The owner is friendly and greets you at reception then takes you to your pitch and will unhitch and site your van on pitch for you.
There are about 50 pitches, spread roughly in a loop and some are seasonal. I believe all have ehu.
I'm not sure if all pitches are the same size but most are just big enough for van and awning with care parked on the grass. The pitches seem close together which means you can be looking out on your neighbours car.
This is an adults only site so no play area but also no dog walk.
Then there are the facilities.
The ladies is modern and tiled throughout but with just three toilets and three showers and no clothes hooks.
The mens shower and toilet is appalling, 1950's primitive, scruffy, dirty (the owner disputes this) And just a toshed up job.
There are just two lavatories and two showers none of which are particularly pleasant to use. The showers are free and hot.
Four wash hand basins in a row in a narrow room. You have to move back and forwards to let each other in and out. The only clothes pegs are in this room.
For both ladies and gents who wish to shower you have to hang you clothes on a plastic hangar and put them inside a waterproof bag.
There are two sinks shared for washing up and hand washing, the washing machines and driers, (didn't do the job) ironing board and iron(free) as well as a small lending library all contained in a tiny room.
For me the facilities are of paramount importance but this site is charging top rates but not supplying top rate facilities.
The nice part is once outside the site you're in the Yorkshire Moors.
Thornton-le-Dale is the local village about 15/20 mins beautiful walk away and is a lovely place in it's own right.
Most of the types of shops and pubs you might want are there. A must visit is Baldersons, bakers/cafe/ice cream makers. They open at 0800 so we went in for excellent filled rolls before setting out on our walks.
Otherwise maps and local guides will tell you what is around. For us it was walking on the Moors.
Will we go back to the Yorkshire Moors? - definitely yes.
Will we go back to this site? - definitely not.

Well we've just returned from a very enjoyable 3rd visit to Overbrook Caravan park. Adults only (dogs allowed) Some of the site has seasonal pitches so lovely and quiet!
The facilities are very clean, water points easily accessible, convenient laundry room, lending library, super information 'room'. All pitches are hard standing and have electric hook ups. The owners are around to help if you have any questions (we had a faulty electric lead and they lent us one for the duration of our stay!) and further booking enquiries or finding out what's on in the local area.
Ideally located for North York Moors or the East Coast!
Will be back again soon!
Happy Caravanning

The best thing about this caravan park is it’s location – on the edge of Thornton-le-Dale just over ½ mile from the centre of the village.
The site is quite pretty at the reception end as there are numerous flower beds which seem to peter out further into the site. If you book an awning pitch you will receive a reasonable sized pitch but beware, the gravel used on the pitches is vicious and you will need quite a thick groundsheet to cushion the sharpness.
I only saw three water points on the site and one of these was at reception and mainly used by motorhomes.
Facilities include reception, chemical & grey waste disposal, rubbish recycling with separate compost bin, 2 washing machines, 2 tumble dryers, iron, board, 2 dish-washing sinks, lending library, tourist information and free wifi. There are no separate clothes-wash sinks and it would appear you would need to use the dish washing sinks for handwashing – not ideal.
The ladies sanitary block contains 3 showers, 3 toilets – one with private washbasin, 2 other washbasins, hand dryer, hair-dryer, 1 full length mirror & 2 other mirrors. I am reliably informed that the gents contains 2 showers, 2 toilets, 3 washbasins, 3 urinals, a smaller washbasin and paper towels for drying your hands.
I got used to the shower experience but you need to be aware that it is difficult to keep your clothes /towel dry due to the unusual position of the shower head near a corner wall. To make matters worse the only hook is on a wall which catches the water deflected from your body, rather than on the wall round the corner from the shower head. The owners have provided a cover for your clothes which is ok if you don’t have too many clothes. There are no hooks in the general toilet/shower area for coats so in inclement weather you might have a problem keeping everything dry.
A lot has been said about Thornton and the surrounding area so I won’t repeat, just echo the fact that it is a lovely area to visit with lots to see and do.
All in all, a good campsite and we would be happy to return.

Just returned from a very enjoyable stay at Overbrook Caravan Park. The current run of unbroken sunshine obviously helped and we made the most of visiting the area. The village of Thornton le Dale is itself very pretty and well worth a visit and a walk along the river. The village has two decent pubs (both allow dogs), a chippy, pizza parlour and a Nisa Convenient Store plus one or two other touristy type shops. Pickering, just ten minutes away has more to offer. The coastal towns of Filey, Scarborough and Whitby are all within 30 minutes in the car. Altogether, Overbrook has a lot going for it due to it's wonderful location - infact, there are beautiful country walks available by simply walking from the site, turning right at the gate.
The pitches are spacious enough for your unit plus an awning and the owners have no issue with you parking the car on the grass next to your pitch. The access road is laid to tarmac and the pitches gravel. The pitches at the top end of the site are a lot neater and tidier with defining edges to where the pitch ends and the grass begins! Personally, I think the site would benefit from having ALL pitches look like those at the far end. No service pitches available but grey and fresh water always very close at hand.
The gents has two showers, I had to wait for a shower twice during our five day stay, three urinals and two toilets. Plus three sinks for shaving. The sinks are very close to a rear wall generating a narrow access gap, one morning I was at the far end and when finished two gentlemen using the two other basins had to move out of the way to let me past. Whilst there is plenty of hot water, piped music and the showers are ok (push button), there is no escaping the fact the facilities block is very dated and lets the site down. Investment here would improve the whole experience dramatically.
The only other slight negative is the dog policy. No exercising or fouling on site. Whilst I rarely walk my dog on a site, as a responsible dog owner I will always clear up after my dog. With the policy and signs in place I did feel under a little pressure to get my dog off site and felt uncomfortable dragging the poor fella first thing in the morning to a grass verge at the site entrance to do his business.
They are excellent hosts and are visible all the time without being intrusive.
Would I visit again? Yes. But I would be even more inclined to return if they updated the facilities block and relaxed their attitude to dogs on site.

We have spent a wonderful week at Overbrook, the owners were very friendly and helpful. On arrival the caravan was unhitched and in position before we could get out of the car. The site is the old railway station but is a good walk into the village.
There is a car park, expensive, but the walk through the trees to the shops is very nice.
The site was full, with a lot of campers knowing each other due to using the site for years. Some of the caravans are seasonal. The toilets are very clean and the showers old but clean with plenty of hot water. These are in the old station buildings along with some holiday flats.
Pickering is three miles away. Scarborough is 17 miles, use the park and ride.
We tried to stay for extra nights but the site was fully booked. We will be staying here again in the coming years.

This adults only site is set on the very edge of the beautiful village of Thornton Le Dale.
The site is very well kept, although the gents toilets are a little dated and in need of an upgrade.
The pitches are set very close together with only enough room for our motorhome and awning, with our neighbours car parked 2 foot from us, a little more room would have been appreciated, overall though the site and the village are well worth a visit, lovely setting and plenty of areas to visit within easy reach of the site.

Excellent short break in this beautiful site, situated on the edge of the small village of Thornton-le-Dale. Good sized pitches with well tended grassed areas and flower beds. The welcome received was warm and friendly, and the shower and toilet facilities were second to none. Within easy walking distance to the very picturesque village, where you found a regular bus service to Pickering, Scarborough and surrounding areas. Thornton-le-Dale has several pubs and eating establishments to suit all tastes, and two or three small shops, including a great ice cream shop. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will certainly be back.

Sorry to be a dissenting voice here. I've just had four nights at Overbrook. The 'Tranquillity Parks' brochure says it a 50 van site. I reckon there were nearer 90 vans there, squashed in at all angles. I had a 'superior' (read Dearer) pitch, but had no privacy, crammed as we were at the top of the site.
The facilities were several minutes walk away, too far to carry pots to potwash and a long way to carry cassette to Elsan point. Toilets and showers? They are inadequate, two showers and two toilets to cater for about eighty men is ridiculous, the morning queue was shocking, ladies facilities equally inadequate according to my wife.
The site fee of £25 per night is akin to caravan club prices, but I know where I'll go next time.

Wonderful friendly site. Its all been said before.
Area: The site is situated in Thornton le Dale which is absolutely beautiful, nice walks, cafes, shops and pubs. We ate in 'The Buck' twice and on both occasions the meals were excellent and of good value and service with a smile.
Pitch: The site is nicely laid out, we were pitched on number 4 slightly under the trees but got the evening sun (yes we had some) until 7. 30-8pm. Plenty of room for our caravan, awning, car with space left for our table and chairs and a drink or two.
Facilities:The showers were hot and I never had to wait to use them, yes they are the push button type and a little small but a minor detail. All the facilities were extremely clean.
Owners: Loved the fact that the OH and the owner had the caravan unhitched and moved to our spot before I had even left the car, definite plus with no motor mover and a bad back. Once you are set up you are left in peace but they were always available if you needed anything.
If you are looking for a peaceful site with excellent facilities, good hosts, great location and and in walking distance of the village then this is the site for you.

What a near perfect site. We booked for one night but within 1/2 an hour of arriving we asked a very helpful owner if we could stay another night. Such a restful site. We were made so welcome and have booked another two nights later this month. Every thing is so convenient and so very clean and tidy. The village traders also make you feel welcome. There are some very dog friendly walks close by and as a newcomer again they explained where they were.
