My Family and I have just had a cracking weekend here. The staff are lovely and the shop is well stocked and reasonably priced. They have pitches for all, from fully serviced to just plain grass without electrics. The pitch price was very reasonable and the site is well maintained. The park itself is right in the middle of the woods and is perfect for dog walking and long cycle rides with the kids. All in all this is a great site for families and dog lovers and I can certainly give it a big thumbs up.

Just enjoyed an excellent late-June weekend at Birchwood. We visited this site a couple of years back, and if memory serves, they have improved their (already good) facilities even further(?) Not all Dorset sites will accept a 'group' booking, but we (6 families) were made very welcome; dinghy storage was sorted- and a late arrival was no problem. There are nicely laid out flat-ish pitches, with proper gaps- and there always seemed to be a toilet/shower block within an easy stroll. There's a well-stocked fairly-priced shop for essentials (inc off-sales, if you're so inclined) The staff were all helpful, friendly- and really did go out of their way to make sure our weekend was as hassle-free as possible. Many thanks to all- would definitely visit again.

August 2005 Site appears to be well run but having submitted a group booking for 6 tents we discovered that one of our party had been put some distance away, well out of sight and earshot. When we queried this we were told that that pitch next to us which had been allocated to them had been requested by the occupiers for 1 extra night so rather than say no they moved our friends! Other campers children were on play park until after 11.00 p.m and were at times unpleasantly noisy. 15-30 minute queue for the showers each morning (4 ladies for the whole north half of the site). This is obviously a very popular site that has suffered from its own success. The shop and takeaway were very good, fresh bread, papers etc. (although 45min wait for takeaway), the facilities were clean and barrier controls excellent. the local walks and view are tremendous with lots of marked paths. There is a secure enclosure for boats and caravan storage on site. I would go again but not during peak season when it was too crowded and under resourced.

May 2005 We went to Birchwood as a party of seven.(four adults three children ages ten-eight-five). We had two tents and stayed there for three nights. One tent with electic hook up. We were next door to the pool and the play park despite this it was quite quiet after nine pm. The showers were excellent if not at times dirty but it did have plenty of hot water. Whilst we were down there it was rather hot the pool was just brown sludge which was dissapointing. As it had not been cleaned out from last season we were not told this when we had booked. Being in a tentIi felt it was a after thought. Though if you had a motor home the site would be very good. The entrance barrier was good. There was not a lot for you to do on the site if it had rained we would have to go elseware for the kids. As it was surounded in woodlands you did not want your kids out of sight. The shop was good and well stocked and the staff were very friendly

July 2005 Have just visited Birchwood after a 6 year break. It is a lovely site with great access to the forest for walks and bike riding. Showers and toilets were very clean and despite not appearing to have enough, in fact never had to queue. A fantastic shop, with literally everything you could need. Good take away too, play area and small paddling pool. Great security gate that automatically reads your number plate and lets you through. Only critism was staff had appeared to have slightly lost the friendly, family orientated attitude we had remembered, but on the whole a nice site.

August 2004 Favourite site in great part of the world with loads of places to visit.
Very child-friendly with the children's play area and small pool almost the focal point of the site - the kids let off steam their all evening until it is dark; fantastic for us parents but perhaps not so for those without kids.
Otherwise, peaceful, good facilities, excellent value, good size pitches and very obliging owners and staff.
Just up the road is the largely undiscovered Wareham sports centre so instead of worrying about a site with its own overcrowded swimming pool, go for Birchwood.
Going again this year.

August 2004 Overall a very good site which we all enjoyed very much. There is a very good shop which stocks a wide variety of camping maintenance items as well as groceries. The games field is extensive and although the site was quite busy it never seemed so. Situated right on the edge of Wareham forest there are miles and miles of nice easy walks and cycling. A good base for Poole and surroundings. Nearest town is Wareham which can provide almost everything. We didn't really have any problems with the number of showers - there is a queue in the mornings and again at night, but nothing too bad. The only slight niggles we had was that they would benefit from more laundry facilities and the games room - not enough space around the pool table!! Would go again because of Poole harbour and the windsurfing ( I am biased) but might try the neighbouring Wareham Forest site for curiosity.

August 2003 After visiting the site next door, we were very pleased with birchwood. They were very friendly. The facilities were at very high standard and we were very impressed with the price we payed. If your looking for a friendly family site then pop into birchwood and you will be very pleased.

8th - 11th August 03 Lovely site, great idea with the security barrier which you access with a card. The staff are great, very helpful and freindly too. Lovely location in the heart of Wareham Forest. Great facilities, loos and showers were always spotless and a well stocked shop. Could do with a few more showers though!!
Perfect location for visiting Swanage, Poole and Corfe.
Will definately be going back there next year.

August 2003 Very clean site , very helpful staff and a well stocked shop . Good idea with the entry barrier which is used with a swipe card. Only one down side , not enough showers.
