A beautiful campsite in a beautiful town. Excellent prices and we camped right beside the river. Tied one end of a washing line to a tree and the other to the wiper blade on the car - took the handbrake off to increase the tension and let it slide down the slope a little and hey-presto, a perfect line for airing tea-towels etc. (also a good way to ensure that we didn't forget the washing)
Look out for the two lads who go around the site with a small trolley collecting rubbish. They are a credit to their father in helping to keep the site as clean as it is. Drop some money in their hands - they deserve it.
We will definitely be returning soon.

Council-owned and maintained to a high standard, Wyeside Camping and Caravan Park is a large and popular site on the banks of the fast-flowing River Wye in Mid Wales.
We recently camped there, 25 years after my last visit as a boy on a family holiday. Two adults and a child cost £8.50 for the night. Car access to the park is via an automatic barrier, which needs tokens that you get free from the Warden. The park has spaces for about 100 tents and 40 caravans, with electric hookups available if required. Interestingly, they also have fully-equipped static tents for hire, complete with wooden floors, cookers, furniture and a fridge!
Toilets, showers and pot washing are all free, and there are also facilities for people with disabilities. The toilets and washing facilities are immaculate, and the individual electric showers allow you to choose exactly the temperature required. We never used the laundry facilities, but they looked clean and well maintained.
The site is about 400m away from the town centre, where you can find a variety of shops, a Spar supermarket, pharmacist, post office, gift shops, cafes and fast food outlets, plus several good pubs. The town's leisure centre is about 5 minutes' walk away.
The drainage is excellent and the grass is cut regularly. For those without tables and chairs, there are picnic tables amongst the tent pitches.
There is a childrens' playground about 50m from the site that includes everything from climbing frames to a rope slide. Nearby are tennis courts, putting, bowls and recreation fields.
Activities include pony trekking and canoeing, although you have to go into the town centre to enquire about these. Alternatively there are riverside walks along the beautiful River Wye. Rhayader is the start of the Wye Valley Walk. About 5km away is the huge reservoir complex at Elan Valley.
Wyeside is situated just north of the town on the A44. We travelled on the A44 from Oxford, which the route maps suggest ought to take 2.5 hours but, on this winding road and with a travel-sick daughter, actually took nearer 4 hours. We took the A470 and M4 going home, a longer distance but shorter time.
The seaside town of Aberystwyth is one hour away by car, the Brecons are an hour to the South, and Snowdonia about 2 hours to the North.
In summary, this is a site maintained to immaculate standards. The location is great and has lots of amenities nearby. It is open from February to the end of November. I thoroughly recommend a visit.
