Stayed here for two nights with my in-laws as we couldn't get onto the Keswick campsite for our whole week away. A big, busy site but well broken up by trees and hedges. Reception was friendly and efficient, showing us to our reserved pitches via bicycle and explaining where the nearest showers, water etc were. Site looks very well maintained but could not comment on the toilets/showers as we don't use them.
Nearest town is Staveley, a decent 40-min walk along country roads, quicker if you know which fields to cut through! Staveley has a station, chippie and the usual shops. There is a dog walk just out of the site (turn left down the un-used road), it is very picturesque and I'm surprised its not mentioned more as its a lovely walk and very big. There were also some fishing lakes nearby but we didn't visit them. A very nice site which I would definitely visit again.

Just returned from the BH break from this site, so I'm reviewing whilst its still fresh in the mind.
We booked this site last-minute, even though we knew it was big (not normally our choice), and expected it would be busy and noisy. We weren't wrong, but as we were 'beggars' on this occasion, we couldn't be choosers.
Many campers have had a great experience at this site. Ours was different. We'd only just joined the C&C Club barely a fortnight earlier, and immediately booked through their interactive website. We booked a grass pitch for a motorhome with an awning (or sun canopy, as it narrows the definitions down to).
On arriving, we were told as we were in a motorhome, we had been 'moved' to a hard-standing pitch. Excuse Me??? They said that they didn't like motorhomes on grass pitches much before June, as the ground can be too soft. While I can understand this if drainage is a problem, why offer the facility on the website? I cant believe with the software in use today, that this cant be built into the booking system - which I believe is tailored to each individual site.
Anyway, even if all this was accepted, why not contact us after booking (and taking our deposit), and give us the chance to accept or reject the proposed alterations?? We'd deliberately chosen grass as we knew the ground was very dry for the time of year.
After we'd had the temerity to challenge the 'changes', and insist that we were given the pitch we'd booked, out came a very surly bloke who we took to be the main man, and repeated what we'd just been told about the grass and the wet and the weight of motorhomes etc., then, agreed that as the ground was very dry, proceeded to 'allow' us what we'd booked as if he was doing us some kind of favour - in essence honouring the booking agreement. I said if the hard-standing had grass adjacent, it would be fine - we just didn't want to sit out on gravel. 'Would we be using an awning?'
Yes. In that case it would break the 'six metre' rule, so we couldn't do that. (this 'rule' transpired to be pointless, as a number of units were nowhere near six metres apart!)
Once on our grass pitch, thinking we'd somehow been given special dispensation, we ended up having another 4 or 5 motorhomes as neighbours on the same grass pitches, so what on earth was all the fuss about?? I really think they screwed up the bookings, swapped us to 'hard', and just didn't like 'dissenters' in the ranks!
The site was busy, and noisy at times, due to the large number of kids staying. That said, we had a very nice stay, spoiled only by an incessant wind that hardly abated for the whole duration. The facilities were plentiful round and about, but we didn't use most of them.
There are a number of walks from the site in all directions, Staveley - the nearest village, has a pub and shop, along with a railway station for trains to Windermere and Kendal - which we availed ourselves of.
As for the site; as nice as it may appear, there are a lot of trees (some branches rattling the top of the motorhome, I'll just mention) therefore are some distinctly so-so pitches. So dark and dingy that you'd need a torch in the daytime to see what you were doing.

we have stayed at the windermere site approximately 8 times now, started off here camping and really got the bug and jumped to a caravan and I've got to say this is a great site.
The first time I towed the van I was a little worried about pitching it but the staff were brilliant and gave me some great tips making it look easy.
The toilet facilities on site are spotless and the site in general is beautiful located just a 5 minute drive into windermere itself.
There is a pub on site which serves a great pint I always sneak one in whilst I'm taking the dog for a walk at night. The staff on site are very helpful and the shop is well stocked with the essentials.
This site is brilliant for caravans and tents whatever unit you have. There is a good play area on site for the kids and a games room just off the pub with a pool table and tv.
Will be going back many times again in the future

Excellent site. This is my fourth visit to a C&CC site and this one meets the high standards I've come to expect. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Toilet/shower blocks were very clean, the rooms warm and the water hot. There was more than sufficient for those using them and I never saw a queue for the showers even though it was Easter weekend and fairly busy. The playground was not large but the kids enjoyed it.
The on-site shop had all the necessities, including local bacon and sausages (the bacon was lovely) and OS maps. The small bar was well stocked and had very good Real Ales. The bar lady was very friendly. The bar is adults only, but there's an adjoining room where families can have a meal, with a pool table (50p) and some local guide books.
The food prices were similar to pubs in the area (I didn't try the food, but those that did appeared to be clearing their plates).
The nearest village (Staveley) is about 2 miles walk away (5 mins drive), has two pubs, a Spar (7 days/week), a chippy and a children's playground. There's a Camping Clothing Shop and a filling station that also sells the basics about a mile away.
Windemere is 5 mile and up to 20 mins drive when it's busy tourist season. Kendal closer and easier to get to. Bowness on Windermere is easiest via the back roads through Staveley and Crook. Perect for people that like the Lakes.
Well worth a stay.

A large well laid out site, and visiting for our first new year in our caravan it was great to see the extensive decorations around the site. The site has its own pub which served well priced meals and was always warm, welcoming and friendly - which clearly extended across the whole site, a great atmosphere throughout our stay. This was our fourth visit to the site, but first New Year.
There were plenty of toilets/sinks showers which were all immaculate and cleaned daily and of course heated. We don't recall a play-area, but didn't look for one
The site shop selling sufficient provisions to keep you going and a two mile walk across country to Stavely was well worth the walk as they had most other shops that you could want. There is a lot of walking to be done in the area.
For new year the staff had organised a large text next to the pub, with a WWII Fancy Dress Theme - despite winning one of the first prizes for going as a land-girl it was definitely the best new years party we've been to since the millennium - the atmosphere and input from fellow campers and staff made it worth every penny, so much so that we're off again in 2011 for the 60's fancy dress theme - with every intention of winning again! Watch out campers!
Due to the snow we were advised to check if we could get down the lane from the layby off the main road and if not the staff offered to bring a tractor up to us. After booking in we also had a tractor escort us to our pitch, in readiness to take over should we not be able to get on it due to a few inches of snow.
The site managers and staff (and pub staff) were amazingly happy and jolly throughout a trying period (heavy snow) throughout. Nothing ever phased them and they were always on hand with a warm, welcoming and friendly smile. A real credit to the CCC Club.

We stayed at this 5 star site on a Saturday night arriving at 16:00. The site is really easy to find and we were booked in and escorted to our pitch in no time by the very helpful wardens. This was our first winter camp so we needed a hookup to try out our new radiator before the real cold sets in! The site is very well presented as you would expect for the price but well worth it. The site is well spread out and had a safe cozy feel to it.
The toilet block / washing up facilities were like you would expect at a golf club not a campsite!
There is an on site shop and pub and we would have happily gone for a stroll about if it hadn’t been for the typical Lake District weather so we headed off in the van.
Our only gripe with the area was the lack of phone signal.

Visited half term week with friends. On arrival site managers had moved us from grass to hardstanding due to water logging but still took care to pitch us together. On check in a £10 cash deposit was required for a barrier fob. This seemed to be optional, but I'm not sure how you would exit and enter without one. The site is very nicely laid out there are a lot of pitches but is is designed well and does not feel cramped or regimented.
There is a nice little shop with a good sweetie selection for the kids and a pub serving meals on site. The pub is adults only but there is a family /games room attached where families can eat but this did get very busy and could do with being twice as big. Food was very nice.
Nothing within walking distance but just a short drive to Kendal or Winderemere.
Toilets and showers very good, well heated and always clean with dry floor. Family room available but there are larger shower cubicles with benches which were fine for parents and kids. Plenty of cubicles and water always hot. There is a code for entry just to stop kids running and out and it works well. We had no problems accessing water electric or rubbish disposal. The only downside was the drainage on site. I have not visited the lake District before so I don't know how this site compares to others. Our friends were woken in the night after a large puddle formed under their awning where their son was sleeping and as we packed up a large puddle had formed under our awning too making pack up difficult.

As first time caravanners we needed a site with easy access and within 2 hrs of home. This site was a good choice and our caravan arrived safely at its first ever site an hour after we bought it. Never towed before so good signs and very simple route all helped.
Arrived at entrance and it wasn't clear where to wait as there was a bit of farce going on in front near the barrier.
Wardens in reception laughed when we said we were new caravanners and offered us 2 spots (59/61) equidistant between the 2 toilet blocks.
We went for 59 and a walkie-talkie called another warden with a tractor who lead us to the spot, unhitched the van (good as I little or no idea!) and then the tractor popped it into place. He said they do it for everybody as the site is tight in that area - which meant getting it out would be fun.
Site was mainly full of families and we had neither kids for dog so we were the odd ones out really. Site was quiet early (due to rain) and first shout was 8.50 next day.
We left for a day out in the lakes during the Saturday and returned at 6 with the usual campsite stuff going on - Saturday is always a big night on campsites I expect with barbequing seeming to the the main pastime. We expected it to be rowdy later - nothing of the sort with the murmur of a few adults next door in an awning until 11pm and then nothing.
Leaving the site on the Sunday was good and I needed a little guidance from a neighbour getting hitched and off site with no fuss.
Didn't use the shop, pub or showers (tested on board shower on the Olympus) but inside of block was very clean as hoped.
Will go again - this weekend in fact!

This site is set in beautiful surroundings and has great pitches and very clean facilities. It is ideally located for visiting the lake district and caters for the unpredictable weather, including a camping chalet to cook and eat in if the weather is miserable!
I do have to say we were disappointed in the tone of some of the staff when speaking to campers. We overheard children being told off for cycling on grass and a woman shouted at for driving slightly above the site speed limit! Both incidents lacking a polite warning and friendly tone. It is disappointing to not be more positive as the area and site is lovely.

We have just returned from a couple of days on this site and I have to say that we were very impressed.
The site is well laid out and all of the pitches were well spaced and level. The camp facilities (wash block, toilets etc.) were all immaculate and cleaned regularly. There is a small shop that sells essentials that you may have forgotten (milk, bread etc.) and there is also small pub on site that isn't overpriced and a small restaurant that sells good meals at reasonable prices if you don't fancy cooking for yourself. The staff were excellent and couldn't have been friendlier.
Although the site is set well back from any roads and isolated the site itself is only a few miles from Kendal in one direction or Windermere and Bowness in the other direction so it could be an excellent base for touring the lakes.
We highly recommend this campsite and will be visiting again soon.
