A lovely setting, fantastic farm shop with lots of lovely yummy local food, really impressed. A nice cafe/bar althought we didn't use it.

When we arrived we had to wait a while to be seen to get our pitch allocation, I think the girl could have done with someone serving shop customers and someone dealing with people checking in. I have to say I was disappointed with our pitch.

The View was beautiful, but we had been given field 3 with the chickens. If you love chickens and you get on with them, and you don't mind there smell, poop, noise (4.30am the cockerel's woke up!) or opportunist behaviour then this is the field for you.

I didn't like the fact that chickens went in your tent/car looking for food and one stole my 4 year old's sandwhich right from his plate. Our pitch was sloping so it wasn't great.

The loos were near by, which was a bruice bonus! they were clean, but just a little attention to cobwebs and dead creatures would make them excellent. We only pitched for one night, we were a group of 12.

The site just needs tweeking a little here and there and it would be getting 10/10. It was only £6.50 a night so maybe the price reflects what you get. We would go again but would ask to be in a field away from the chickens.

Spent a weekend here in August. Site it adequate. We stayed on field to left of entrance which was flat, others seemed on slope which I wouldn't have liked. Washing up facilities fine. Just about enough toilets, though could do with more cleaning.

Showers are 50p for old ones.Bit manky with lots of cobwebs etc, but usuable. New block much better. Only downfall for me was their was nowhere to brush teeth/wash face.

Apart from sink within toilet block (2of!) which I think is unhygienic. Shop is well stocked. (lovely cake!)OK for a weeekend break.

We stopped here as we were visiting family who live locally and wanted to spend a weekend at Rutland Water. The farm shop was magnificent with an amazing selection of local produce including a fab range of pickles etc!

We were in the first field and were at first given a pitch under trees, covered in twigs squeezed between two cars. We were allowed to choose another with no problem. As previously mentioned the grass is a bit long so cropped trousers for kids are a must! There didn't seem to be much checking up whilst we were there like previously mentioned. The only time we saw staff was when we went to the shop. We also asked if we could pay to leave late but they allowed us to stay until 6pm for no extra charge which was great, particularly as the prices were so reasonable in the first place.

Now for the downsides - unlike others I wasn't impresssed by the washing up facilities. Yes there were 6 sinks but clearly this didn't serve the amount of people there as I always had to queue and three of them have no cover and there is no lighting. My first evening was spent trying to wash up in the pouring rain in the dark, but it adds to the fun!

The toilets consisted of 2 ladies which contained the only sinks and 4 unisex with an outside sink. They were dirty all the time and in the weekend I was there, they only appeared to be cleaned once (and badly) and full bins were not emptied for 2 days.

It was silly little things like having to wash your hands in the sink in with the toilet then come out for the paper towel and bin which gave an overall impression of a lack thought. Somehow the camping aspects didn't match up to the rest of the facilities. Would we return? Probably only if there was nothing else suitable in the area.

Just returned from a 1 night stay to see if the kids would enjoy camping and found the site to be very good. We pitched near to the road and entrance so it was a little noisy, would pitch the other side of the field next time.

The shop was well stocked and the bar food and drinks were good although £5.00 for a glass of white wine is a bit steep. Kids enjoyed playing on the lawn but a few people had allowed dogs to foul and not cleared up. Didn't use the showers but looked ample as did the washing up facilities.

The toilets really need a full time cleaner as they are in constant use and got a bit dirty towards the end of the day, again didn't really bother us for 1 night but wouldn't want to use them for a whole week. Overall a good start to get us camping.

Will return but only for a couple of nights stay and with our own wine.

We stayed for three nights at this campsite, we were placed in the adults only field. This field was on a slope (which was fine) but was essentially a rough ploughed corn field left to its own devices with some mowed stretches to pitch in. It was a wet weekend so most cars wheel span up the hill to their pitches so the site became very muddy quickly.

We don't mind rough camping at all but this was not as one imagined when looking at their website, overall we both agreed that unfortunately we had a negative experience at this campsite.

The area is great - we saw red kites flying through the area and we will return, but I am afraid not to this campsite. Although it is cheap you really did get what you paid for! For the amount of campers they must have through the season it would be really nice if the owners actually invested some of their money back into the facilities.

The toilets were dirty and wet and in many cases they doors simply would not lock. There was no where to put a towel or bag down except the floor which was certainly not an option on wet days. I didn't even want to entertain the showers which were coin operated on an exterior wall.

There was one small outside sink (cold tap only) to wash hands in after the toilet but no soap was provided. It has been a long time since we have stayed on any site that had such old facilities and I was really glad we were only booked for three days, any longer and I think the site would have really affected the quality of the rest of our holiday.

The washing up sinks were not much better, I think there were six sinks raised on blocks in an area covered by perspex, but the sinks would benefit from being raised another brick in height.

Plus - there in a pub and a wonderful village a short walk away. The goods in the shop looked lovely (pieces of rich chocolate cake sold by the slice) but again its not pitched at what campers really need, but a nice idea for visitors to the veranda cafe I guess?

A real shame, such a missed opportunity for what could be a wonderful campsite so easily.

We've been frequent visitors to this site and we love it more each time we visit. The added benefits of the Deli / Farmshop and the Cafe / Bistro are just add ons. The true appeal of Wing Hall is its location. Walking, cycling, site-seeing and just generally lazing around, it's all on the doorstep.

Wing Hall has a unique feel to it. Give it a go I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Rutland Water is a short drive or a moderate bike-ride away. As long as your ok about the chickens wandering around you'll be fine.Of course the benefit of fresh eggs each morning does have its reward.

It was overcrowded with poor facilities.

We booked in with friends and the pitches we were allocated had so many tents and other vans around them, that at night it was dangerous to walk about.

There were 2 loos that were not at all clean, the showers were cold, despite having to pay extra for them. The waste empty point was about 3 foot off the ground, it was a health risk with waste water and portaloo all emptied into the same area, this was a grid with human waste and old toilet paper clinging to it. There was a tap next to it that did not work, so to clean out the portaloo the option was to use a nearby drinking water tap!

The only way to get to this waste facility was past the cafe, so anyone eating at the tables had to suffer people walking past them with smelly waste containers.

Though dogs were welcome, there was no walking area for them.

The entrance was a 180 degree turn and very tight with no signs to help, other than one that said -'no refunds' -and -' If you pitch without going to the shop to book in we will charge you double no exceptions.'-

In the end both families decided enough was enough, and we cut short our bank holiday weekend leaving on the Sunday.

Well,I read the reviews but don't agree with everything.

Yes the views are wonderful

Cafe very nice

Shop very handy & sells some great quality items and both the shop & cafe are open very long hours.

The staff & (Old Lady) very friendly however it did all seem very un-organised, not sure if that was down to people pitching up in the wrong place or wrong information by the site ??

The old lady drives around the site a lot to check up on things so is always to hand if you need her.

Quite a few people arrived near us and people were already on their pitch although they were all found space in the end (did take quite a while).

A lot of the pitches were on quite a slope and ground very lumpy and patchy, lots of nettles & thistles so watch where you step.

Wash up area had plenty of sinks and made washing up quite a pleasure (well almost).

But the toilets & showers were probably the worst we have seen. Yes they were usable but very grim, it does look like they are improving things ie: the showers but please hurry up, they just don't look inviting.

Our kids loved the chickens and they are no problem (yes they do come inside your tent but that's no problem -is it)

The site in all has a lot to offer in respect of the shop, cafe and friendly staff/owner but considering the amount of children there, probably a small play area for young kids would be good. The older kids can make their own fun but something for 2-4yr olds, something to clamber & climb on/ swings & slides are not required & probably wouldn't suit the site.

Just a bit more TLC all round needed

Would we go back ?: probably (despite my negative comments)

Excellent site, bombay sapphire in the fridge, cafe with good coffee from 0800 till 2300. Lots of loos, admittedly very fresh air type but rather clean. Very slow Kings Arms pub, would suggest staying at the excellent veranda cafe.

All rather a little eccentric which we like. The occasional sloping pitch disheartening but the site are open to negotiation on a move. Loved the chickens !

We can only really echo what has been said before.

Received a nice welcome in the farm shop on arrival and excellent service from the owners throughout the stay.

Spent one night with our 5 year old son and dog in the camping field without electric hook ups and really enjoyed it, lots of other children around in this field for him to play with.

The tent pitches are an adequate size but for my liking the grass is too long and could do with a cut, it would also be nice to have a toilet block actually in the camping field – they are situated around the main house. If you have younger children you could not really let them wander off to the toilets on their own from this field as they have to cross the main driveway and carpark.

Wing village is only a short walk away and has a nice looking pub, however, you don’t need it as the cafe bar is great and open until 11, the farm shop is very handy with some nice produce.

Would we go back – yes.
