I have to say that after reading the reviews on this site it wouldn’t be high up my list of places to visit. We were struggling to find somewhere reasonably close to home for a weekend away and after trying several other sites which were full reluctantly resorted to Claylands. How wrong can you be!
The site is well kept and very scenic. The shower and toilet facilities have to be seen to be believed and as has been said earlier were indeed the smartest and cleanest I have ever seen on a camp site. Okay so they are at the opposite end of the site from tent field but honestly its not that far, I was expecting a real trek and was pleasantly surprised. The overhead power cables are there but they are not nearly as bad as I expected and you do honestly forget about them.
If you have kids they’ll love the river which runs through the site, the adventure playground and the ducks waddling around waiting for some bread. If you get up early enough and sit quietly you’ll see the squirrels playing in the trees around the tent field. Honestly just give this site try and I am sure you will like it. We will definitely be returning.

A very pleasant site very picturesque. Excellent shower / toilet block it was the cleanest one I have ever seen. The static and caravan pitches are excellent but as always the tents are shoved at the back quite a walk from the toilet block.
The adventure playground is excellent as is the river walk. I to found the noise from the M6 distracting but it does depend on the wind direction. I also found being under an electricity pylon somewhat scary but the you do get used to the noise. Overall a good site well worth a visit.

Various since 1994 We have been visiting this site since it was recommended to us in France in 1994. We have seen it go from strength to strength. There is always a warm welcome from Fred, Alan and the rest of the family. It is our favourite site close to home. When you have been as many times as us, you forget the overhead pylons and the trains. Admittedly the showers etc are now at the wrong end of the site for the tourers but hey! you can't have everything and these too have been upgraded to a very high standard over the last couple of years. Well done all, keep up the good work but don't forget the campers.

May 2004 This site is very handy, being only 4 miles from the motorway junction. However there is the flipside that you can get traffic noise from the M6 if the wind is blowing from that direction. I agree that although the pylons make a kind of crackling noise, you soon get used to this, but I didn't feel too comfortable being situated directly under the pylon and cables. The awning rail buzzed to the touch!
The shower block was very clean and warm and there is a small shop. My kids (10 and 7) really enjoyed the adventure playground but I felt it needed making a bit safer as it was a few years old and needed one or two repairs.
The pitches are hardstanding but not very generous between them. The staff were friendly and so we may go back to this site but try to avoid the "electric" pitches and not stay for too many nights. The cost for a caravan with hookup and 2 adults and 2 kids was £20 per night.

April 2004 This is a very clean site and we were met with a very friendly welcome. However, the camping area is quite a way from the toilet and shower facilities and there is no provision for rubbish near the camping area. The overhead power lines do give off quite an annoying hum all of the time. We don't think that we'll be going back to this site in a hurry.

Summer 2003 WELL WORTH A VISIT We have had some very nice weekends here, the fishing is very good if you are into Carp. The site is very very clean and well run, security is good. We will be returning for some relaxing weekends next year. One drawback...... the overhead electric pylons (you do get used to it though) dont let this put you off visiting this excelent site.

Aug 2003 We had a great time here there were 4 of us 2 adults 2 children 2&7. The toilets and showers were great. They have a washer & dryer and a placce to do the dishes also. Ther are some good walks by the river and it has 4 lakes well stocked with carp if you like fishing. There is a great adventure playground that we found hard to prize the kids away from. All in all we had a great time and will be going back very soon.
