We must have been on this site at the same time as Brianw1 as I remember the events he mentioned. I would fully concur with his comments but would also add that the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. This site has a woderful location with nice walks along The Fife Coastal Footpath. It's also an excellent base for discovering the many delights of the East Nuek. It was our first trip out with our caravan and almost put me off parks with on site entertainment.

Just came back from a weekend visit to this site. We had a EHU with our tent (they hook you into a hard standing and you pitch behind it on the grass) The field for pitching tents is not very even, lots of holes to fall down under the groundsheet! We also found the ground to be quite soft and if you had not got the right pegs it would be a problem. As said before, there is a good bar with entertainment, open until 1am and quite noisy really. On the Friday night we had to listen to singing going on until after 4am. Saturday night, although the tent field had filled up dramatically the noise was less. I am not sure if we had just picked a bad weekend, but boy is this place windy! Some tents took a real battering in the wind yesterday even with the use of windbreaks. The wind comes straight up off the sea, there doesn't seem to be any attempt to try and stop it with plantings or such. For this reason I wouldn't return with a tent, although think it would be great for tourers.

Recently visited Shell Bay for a weekend stay, club, restaurant etc. Looked ok. The games room was poor, half the machines did not work and others swallowed your money with no results. We asked for a pitch away from the noise of the club and were placed among some residential touring vans. Both nights were wasted by drunks having a karaoke night around 2am one night and an argument resulting in a caravan door being broken around the same time the following night so sleep was scarce. Toilet block was clean but was not adequate for the number of vans, pitches were poorly laid out and ground was rutted you had to watch returning to your van at night in the poorly lit site. Very disappointed as the location is good and the site has the potential to be also.

Stayed here mid week for 3 nights in windy conditions. Tent pitches very small compared to the rest of the site, but you have to leave at least 6m between pitches. Site was excellent, shop had more or less everything you would need to get by, shower block excellently cleaned every day. Shower block has sockets and mirror, hairdryer and straighteners for those wishing still to look their best. Nice walks around the coastline, up to Elie. Plenty of dry wood back from the beach to the right of the site for your campfire at night in safe bbq off the ground. Plenty for the kids, ie play park, football pitch, although a wee bit further away from main reception. Amusement arcade. The entertainment room was pleasant and clean, entertainment on every night, but we only went in for one drink, preferred just to sit at tent, chat and have a drink ourselves. The restaurant was lovely, meals very nice, worth trying out during your stay. Also has takeaway at rear of restaurant, sells chips, suppers and ice cream for the kids. A pool on site would have been the icing on the cake, but all in all a very pleasant stay.

Visited site for weekend. Very busy, advise booking, site very nice although noisy late at night. Restaurant is excellent value for money with good menu and friendly staff. Toilet/shower facilities are good and surrounding villages are well worth a visit. Plenty facilities for kids. Highlight of weekend was young female vocalist called Pamela who entertained in the clubhouse what a singer, if the rest of their entertainment is like this then 5*.

The site had all the facilities you might need - shop, toilets, showers, fresh water, childrens paly area plus a childrens indoor room, TV room and club. A lovely meal was had in the cafe on the first evening and they also do takeaway. Most facilities were clean and easy to access however I am unhappy that the chemical disposal is next to the dishwashing area. That in itself was a bit grubby, more than just not cleaned by th elast person. I just can visialise "toilet germs" landing on my clean plates. Ugh! Easy access to Anstruther for a fish supper and Elie for icecream. What a beautiful beach! The beach at shell bay itself is ok for dog walking but could have been cleaned and it may have been usued! Its a windy place but I didnt mind and had a relaxing weekend.

A clean tidy site very friendly staff. Toilets were very clean and tidy. Shop was stocked well. The club is not a bad size with a games room attached for all ages restaurant/take away was quite reasonable. Site gets very full at the high season and can be a bit noisy at weekends but so is most places at weekends. It is better to book your pitch rather than try our luck in the high season. All in all a good site to stay.

Midweek break at shell bay was very relaxing. Toilet blocks clean & clubs a fair size. A few seasonal holiday makers on site who were all very friendly to us. Hope to go back next year sometime. Shell bay is a good base area for exploring the surrounding area, i.e. Glenrothes St Andrews, Kirkauldy.

The sites toilets have been upgraded (whey hey!) but will not last a great deal of time as the workmanship looks very cheap indeed, and with youths trying to demolish them already but still very nice compared to the last blocks. As been stated before the meals in the restaurant are great value, we had a breakfast every morning of cereal, toast, tea/coffee & fry-up for less than £4.00 My daughter put £2.00 into a picture portrait machine on 3 different days and it never printed correctly and never got switched off for being out of order, we asked and got our money back without a fuss but how many kids never bothered to get a refund? The staff have always been very helpful. We love shell Bay well will be going next year a couple of times, don't go if you want tranquillity with the pub etc. But we are on holiday for goodness sake and so is everyone else if you want tranquillity stay at home & go to bed a 9pm to read a book. Saying that the most noisey thing about the site is the warden's diesel tranny van who circles the site often, you'll be able to hear it in Kirkaldy!

Have been coming to Elie for years, but this was the first time we decided to come in the tent. The campsite was very uneven and stony for tents. There was no designated pitches, so tents tended to get very cramped. We ended up with a large group of tents pitched within 1m of ours. We cound not even get the car to within 15m of the tent!
The camp club house was very noisy up until 2am, followed by very rowdy and drunk campers until at least 4am! Didn't get any sleep for 2 days.
We initially booked in for a week, but could not take any more after 4 nights. Ended up packing tent and gear at 11pm!
Elie is still worth visiting, as the beach is wonderful, but find somewhere else to stay!
