We had an excellent 4 days here. The site is well laid out and provides lots of flat, terraced pitches, most with hook up. If you do not have a hook up cable or light, these can be rented from the shop for £1.50 per night, plus the £1.50 hook up charge. Views can be had of the bay from most of the pitches, caravans are kept away from the tents and you can pick a nice secluded spot in amongst the trees and shrubs if you crave privacy.

Access to the site is down a very narrow winding lane, and due to the complete idiocy of most drivers, can be a bit hairy. This applies to all of Devon though, so drive slowly and prepare for the oncoming Colin McCrae wannabes!

I was slightly disappointed by the cleanliness of the showers etc. We had our 14mnth old with us and the family room had balls of hair and leaves in for the 4 days we were there, so cleaning did not seem top priority here. There is a bay bath provided though, which was great. It is a total pain to have to feed the coin meters with 20p pieces for showers, baby baths and even dishwashing though. If the shower/toilet block had been spotless then I would not have minded so much, however it was not, and we were there in low season.

Overall though, a recommended site, Phil and his wife were attentive and welcoming, and full of advice and tips for camping, days out and history of the area.

Spent 6 nights here.

Gaining access to the site was an absolute nightmare. There's about 2-3 miles of single track road on the only route in which gets quite tricky in places. On the day we arrived we were stuck for 30 mins in a jam. I ended up acting as a traffic policeman to negotiate with a dozen drivers or so including a huge tractor. Too stressful. Every journey in and out was a nightmare at some point and this was just for a car (no caravan - we were campers). It gets that narrow and passing places are sometimes inadequate.

Interesting pitches on terraces which offers pleasant seclusion. Some good views. Level and grassy.

Toilets and showers not really that clean but it was busy, I suppose. They were way too far away for a trip in the middle of the night too.

Showers run on 20p meters apparently to conserve water but considering the amount of coins the owners take off the guests they weren't very forthcoming in giving you change when you needed it. A reasonable shower costs between 40 and 60p. If the Bank of England was wondering where all the 20p's are then Phil's your man. May be that was what the tractor was for? Stock piling 20ps was too much of a chore and a morning ritual we could do without.

Laundry room and washing up area was very good.

Absolutely impossible to freeze ice packs. Made several attempts in the middle of the night to chill them down but everytime we put the freezer on 'boost' someone would just come in and switch it back to low again, presumably to save on the electric?

There is a long winding road down to Hope Cove which is much more pleasant than the walk back - especially when there's a flash flood and the sewers break and it comes speeding down the hill towards you. (Not the campsite's fault).

Owner was friendly but did come across as a bit of a know-all when in company e.g. was quick to point out we were walking on the wrong side of the road. (A single track road by the way??? Haven't figured that one out yet. Perhaps he was just being Ironic?)

I can therefore only really recommend this site to helicopter pilots with large bladders, lots of 20 pences and a taste for warm beer. Sorry.

We had a great time, we stayed for one week. We were lucky that we went in the field over looking the bay, the views are stunning, very relaxing and quiet. Even so it was a hike to the loo's but the view was worth it !

The family that own this site are great, very freindly and helpful.

The shower/toilet block was never really that clean, but it was very high season and they were full. However the coin operated showers got a bit boring, espically when you ran out of change late at night !

The family also run a small shop on site that is very well stocked, they also do great take away meals that were very popular, not expensive either. A short walk down to the bay ( long up hill walk back)offers a choice of three or four good restaurants/pubs, nice family atmospehere everywhere.

We had a great week !
