Second visit to the site, and the good news is that the site was as good as the 1st time - My family party of six, stayed for 5 nights, on a flat perimeter grass pitch near the play area. The site was full on a couple of the nights, yet the facilities were clean and plentiful as ever.
Great part of the country.
20 mins walk to the beach at East Runton.
Short drive to beach at West runton.
Great old fashioned seaside towns of Cromer and Sherringham are 10 mins drive away.
Will be back to the area, but may try the Caravan Club site with (swimming pool) down the road next time !

As previously mentioned, access is down a longish gravel lane, but by no means as bad as I was expecting, slightly pot-holed but plenty of passing places.
Very clean facilities, never had to queue for a shower despite being there during a bank holiday.
Site was busy but did not feel overly-cramped.
Site is generally very secluded and quiet, despite some noise in the evenings over the bank holiday weekend, the 11pm curfew kicked in efficiently and was very peaceful after that.
Loads to do in the area - something for everyone.
Found some good restaurants in Cromer - The Old Rock Shop Bistro and Garden Street Grill. Near to site was Roman Camp pub/restaurant - good food but dreadfully slow service.
On the whole West Runton is highly recommended and we would have no hesitation in revisiting.

We visited as newbie campers trying out camping to see how we got on with it.
When we arrived we were offered a number of pitches and chose one quite close to reception, about 80m from the wash block. The site got very busy over the spring bank weekend but there still was enough space for separation.
The wash blocks were spotlessly clean, with hot water for showers all day long. Some of the showers had a small changing area enclosed within the outer door, which was useful with young kids.
We thought that the small kids play area would be too small for our kids but they had a great time. The eldest (14 years) played football for about 4 hours / day with other kids. The other 2 (age 10 and 5) were in the small play area, sand pit and doing other stuff including going to the small shop.
We felt that the site is small and safe enough to allow our younger children quite a bit of freedom and they wandered off to play quite a bit.
All staff I came into contact with were friendly and helpful, the site manager was always around either grass cutting, checking wash blocks or talking with campers.
Quiet hours were pretty well observed apart from a couple of idiots - but that's going to happen everywhere I guess.
There was a good mix of tents, caravans and motor-homes of all sizes.
Great site for exploring this area.

We visited this site last year for a short, 2 night break and were not at all disappointed.
When we got there (after driving down a very narrow bumpy lane that was so hidden away, we drove past it the first time. A nightmare for caravans I should imagine), we were greeted by some very friendly staff. They quickly showed us to a choice of pitches (very unusual to be able to chose one for yourself) and within an hour or so, we were all set up.
The grass was all very green and kept neat and tidy and the pitches all seemed to be very flat. There was also plenty of electric hook ups to choose from.
We went for a walk around the site, as we always do when we first arrive, and were very taken with how lovely and well maintained it was. The toilet facilities were some of the best I've ever seen (award winning apparently). Each cubicle was nice a big and had a bench and pegs to put your things on. There were also separate sink cubicles with mirror lights for beautifying yourself! They always seemed spotless and smelt very clean.
There was a small but well stocked shop, a children's play area and a fish and chip van visited the site once a week.
The site was very quiet the whole time we were there and you didn’t hear a peep in the evenings. This may be due to the fact that we visited in the school term and early on in the year but it felt very tranquil and I can’t imagine it ever would be a noisy site.
West Runton itself is a very short walk away and there is also a lovely walk to Cromer but that was a bit further. Great I should imagine for people who have dogs.
We found that the only thing it lacked was things to do around the local area. I would certainly visit again but only for another short break as I could imagine getting quite board if we were there for a week or so.

Nice location, access bumpy and long, site staff not as friendly as expected after reading other reviews.
It was Easter, but we were packed in! Showers and toilet block very clean.
Information regarding site exits to local footpath and nearby shops/pubs would have been appreciated on the information sheet given on arrival.
Once Found lovely walks to both Cromer and Sheringham. Beach Walks recommended our dog loved every minute either on the Heath or Beach

Great C&CC site.
Our first ever Caravan trip after converting from Tenting (do enough of that these days with Scout/Cubs!)
The 'road' to the site is bendy and bumpy but don let that put you off take it slow! Our 4x4 Pajero eat it up but I did worry about the van.
Despite entering Holgate Lane down to the site at 13:45 followed by two other units, I still met with a unit coming up the track. Don't know if he was a later departer(supposed to be off by 12noon?) or he'd turned round? Whichever, fortunately I met him at one of the 'wider' parts of the track, he pulled over to the side and I passed him without touching, if only by inches!
Found the welcome very friendly indeed, not rude at all compared to some reviewers. Alan was most helpful and got us onto a 'sunny pitch' by driving over the gas and into the space without any reversing, a great boon for a 'van virgin'
This did mean a steep slope though on the opposite side of the site to the entrance and also a wind funnel, which sadly led to the demise of our awning poles whilst we were out.
Some very kind people dismantled our awning to stop damage to the 'van. If those gents read this can I say thank you as the person next door said 'two men' did the kind deed but did not know which units they came from?
If the comment from someone of 'helped them but they won't speak to us' was directed at us, sorry, but you didn't identify yourself so that we could say thanks and offer you a drink. You did at least get your pole back that you taped to ours to attempt to save it, a knock at the door could have let us say thanks
If was directed at other people who had help putting up their awning in the high winds then, sorry!
Only one toilet block was open as 1 closed for 'essential maintenance'. As one block is closed 1030-12noon, the facilities are the best I've ever seen or used! Fantastic shower cubicles so much room
Fantastic site, once you get past the 'lane'
Although the kids have returned to school, none the less, the site was fantastically peaceful and quiet. The stars at night - great view
The Village Inn @ West Runton great for Sunday Lunch although £3.20 fro a pint of Kronenbourg.Steeeeeeeeep
Dunstable Arms @ Sheringham also good meals. Didn't try site visitor Fish 'n' Chips - seemed popular though

This was my second site of my two week holiday and was absolutely brilliant, nestled deep in a beautiful wood it was everything you could possibly want.
Good points:- Spotless facilities, beautiful grass site, shop catering for the essentials. Excellent walking available and pubs with great food and beer not too far away either in either West or East Runton
This is a Camping club site and was so impressed I decided to re-join.
Bad points:- access road a bit risky but as I have a campervan there were no problems, two caravans meeting together could be interesting I suspect. Pitches are a bit tight and it was absolutely full so the 6 metre space rule was being enforced a little less lightly than normal I suspect (but still no problem with facilities), wardens are perhaps a bit less friendlier than other sites but very efficient.
Yes would definitely go back to this one.

A great site.
The site is located at the end of a narrow and rather bumpy track. This means you are well away from any noise, but getting there was pretty difficult - and this is the only negative of the whole site.
There are two very large toilet/shower blocks which were cleaned very regularly. Easy access to fresh water, grey waste drain and rubbish bins make it a very relaxed site. There's a small shop selling the essentials, should you run out. We were only there for a weekend but would have happily stayed for longer and would definitely go back.

Our first time at this site and would definitely return. I can't really fault it, the showers and toilets were great, maybe beginning to get a little bit smelly by 10pm, but other than that they were great and never had to queue. Very friendly and helpful staff who showed us to our pitch and gave us a choice of a number of pitches. Very quiet by about 9.30pm when it got dark and quiet in the morning until way past 7am. The kids play area is great, swings, sandpit etc and plenty of room to kick a ball about and great trees for climbing

We came to this really well run campsite during the first week of the Summer Holidays & it was fantastic! The toilets, washbasins & showers (5 of each for male & female) were always spotless & we never had to queue! There were two toilet blocks & we only used one of them! There was a money slot hairdryer too. Even though it was busy there was still plenty of room & the 11pm curfew was adhered to. We would come back!
