I have stayed on this site on and of for the last 20 years and to be fair it is improving slowly what with the new club house and one new toilet block. But the one thing I thought that has really improved this year was the restaurant - the food these guys are serving this year is really good value. Its plain fare but really tasty. Keep up the good work guys I will be coming back again

Rolled in here on a bank holiday weekend adn managed to get a pitch. It is a bit windy if the wind is up,(Take a wind break) it is also roasting when the sun is up. Club had excellent entertainment, restaurant food was fine, staff were friendly and helpful.
Shop is basic but had plenty of ice cream for the kids and morning rolls for me. New toilet blocks were fine, about a dozen unisex bathrooms which were very spacious.
Great location for bike rides (Elie about 2 miles) and walks, woodlands to explore. A very nice beach at the site with coastal walks. Kids and I had a great time at the park. We will go back.
Minor down side, I did not ask but there appears to be no electric hook up for tents.

Upon reading comments on the forum I can honestly say than the site offers entertainment on most Friday and Saturday evenings {every night during peak times} We have always been made very welcome. We are frequent visitors to the site staying nearby in Leven. I have to admit the only fault is the condition of the toilet blocks, however on passing last weekend we ventured down to the site and were pleased to see a very large and stylish new toilet and shower block near completion

Ground uneven bumpy for tents, very windy location 2 toilet blocks 1 needs updating other much nicer. Shop basic, club good size. Drinks expensive. Food reasonably tasty. Football pitch. Next to beach. Play area only has swings. Several nice villages to visit along coast. Indian restraunt in Leven nice sunday buffet (15 mins away). Day out St Andrews 40 mins.
For all my grumblings pretty ok. Heard toilet blocks to be done up over the winter cost £12.50 or £15.50 electric

July 2005 Disappointing visit. Elie is a beautiful village with lovely beaches, but I didn't find that Shell Bay complemented that image. I was there with friends and our children hoping for a family-friendly stay. The site has a licensed bar open until 1am with the associated problems of drunken people roaming the site in the wee hours. The site doesn't close to traffic through the night, which was beneficial to those going out locally, but disturbing for those trying to sleep as traffic continued throughout the night. Tent pitches could do with being cleared of stones - suffered several bent tent pegs. Toilet blocks not as well maintained & clean as they could be. Site could be better kept - there was a problem with litter and the occasional dog fouling & the private beach was similarly littered. Helpful warden, but not well supported by management.
Overall, Shell Bay is spoiled with a pituresque location and the huge benefit of an adjacent beach. I didn't feel, however, that the most was made of this.
