We found this beautiful little campsite quite by accident and we couldn't be more thrilled. We used the site as a base, whilst we house hunted in the local area.
The site is just perfect, very quiet, huge well spaced out pitches and there are only 6! Each pitch has its own electric hookup and water supply. Wonderful in everyway, peaceful, spotless toilet and showers. Grounds are vast, natural, beautiful and green.
All pitches are set on grass, sun and shade, surrounded by walks, meadows, woodlands, all immediately accessible as you step off your pitch and quirky art work, done by our lovely host Ann.
We cant recommend this site enough, if you want a beautiful natural quiet site, in the heart of nature, but close to all the amenities, lovely French villages, towns, tourist attractions, then this is a must for you. Big cities of limoges and Poitiers are also within reach.
The cost was also very good, we also requested a late check out, and were charged no fee for this, so kind of the hosts.
We had our 2 dogs with us, this site is also perfect for furry travellers, surrounded by walks, on huge pitches, a real stress relieving experience, where you and your dogs can just relax.
I have to mention our hosts Ann and Harry, both English, extremely welcoming and helpful. We had use of a camp washing machine and I was able to hand my washing on Ann's washing line, wonderful. There is also a camp fridge should you need to use it.

Harry and Ann were perfect hosts. They were very helpful and were there if needed.
The facilities at Camping La Ribiere Sud were just right and kept lovely and clean with plenty of hot water.
It's a very quiet site which suited us perfectly. Lovely walks through their woods and explore.
We were lucky enough to see deer wandering through - it was beautiful.
Harry even lent us a spare kettle when ours didn't work!
We will certainly stay here again and can thoroughly recommend it as a stop over en route - but book a few nights to see the area.
Thank you both.

Well what can we say! An absolute gem. A little bit of heaven. Ann and Harry are both wonderful people and have created one of those environments that make you feel so calm and settled.
The pitches are generous, with power and water to each one. There is a woodland walk which was wonderful for walking our two dogs.
They have 22 acres of land in this former tree nursery to wander and explore. We had come here on our way to Bordeaux so only had one day but we so wished we were able to stay for more time to soak up the atmosphere and unwind and relax.
We will return to do this for sure, for as seasoned visitors to France we want to treasure campsites like this one. Many campsites in France are wonderful, but this one will remain as one of our all time best.
Our neighbours told us they stay each year for several days on their way south and each day visit a restaurant in Gorre, a village nearby, as one of their favourite French restaurants, so we can’t wait to return to try it out.
This is not a busy campsite with pool, tennis courts, entertainment block and so on, it’s the opposite of that which is exactly what we want on our travels.
The facilities are clean and excellent, indeed providing three shower and toilet rooms for a campsite that has six pitches is more than ample for a small site.
Well done Ann and Harry. We look forward to meeting you again.

What a haven of peace and tranquility. Ann and Harry are friendly and helpful, the facilities are clean, the garden and grounds are amazing and there’s even a whirly and pegs to hang out your washing. If like us you prefer to leave your motorhome parked up, come stocked up with everything you require for your stay.

Ann and Harry now have a Tree House to stay in and it really is fantastic, we were so lucky to stay in it! Perched on high with a lovely balcony to sit on, chill out and enjoy the sunshine over a glass of wine whilst looking out over fields and woods-- it really was a treasure.
The sleeping accommodation is on high with cooking facilities and a small toilet down below. The furnishings have been carefully selected and well thought out. The site shower block is the best I've ever come across, a good size with plenty of lovely hot water. The showers and main toilets are a 2 minute walk away from the Tree House across the grass but the feeling of walking from our own private space brought a strange smugness to us--we had something secret and special hidden away!
We woke up each morning, opened the door and curtains, made a cup of tea and just relaxed before heading off to start the day.
There's plenty to go out and enjoy in the area with hardly any traffic around so driving to local villages along quiet country roads was a pleasure. We went into Limoges centre, parked for free by the river, went to the Tourist Information Office and picked up a walking tour of the city. We found the central market, old streets, quaint courtyards and the day had soon gone! We did, of course, pass a pleasant lunchtime with a meal --obligatory in France I think.
Staying in the Tree House was certainly a treat for us and we can't wait to go back again

When we first arrived at La Ribiere Sud, we thought that we would not be able to find enough activities to fill our intended stay. The site is absolutely delightful and we loved walking the garden and the grounds looking at all the surprise views and treasures within them. Ann and Harry have created a wonderful site with a pond containing a large number of beautiful Koi Carp and planting that is sympathetic and vibrantly stimulating. There is a fire pit which would be great to use on colder evenings.
Ann and Harry cleared the site and built the whole facility from scratch providing 6 camping pitches, a very exotic yurt and a beautiful little annexe. The showers are among the best we have used in France and the domestic facilities provided for washing pots and clothes and taking care of the van are superb. We slept very well on one of the pitches that is shaded by trees. There is some noise from the road which is close by but it was no distraction after our first night.
My partner cycled on the roads but I was not able to tackle the hills! I did however complete the return trip from Chalus to Oradure-sur-Vayres on the Voie Verte. We stopped for delicious artisan ice cream at La Gare, a restaurant which sits on this wonderful tarmac track along the disused railway line. We took our van out each day and found wonderful lakes in which to swim. Our favourite is at Flavignac. The water is the cleanest lake water we have found and the surroundings are beautifully kept.
Coming back to La Ribiere Sud each evening was a delight and felt like coming home. The welcome was always warm and we were given lots of advice and leaflets, maps etc to allow us to find the things to do that would suit us best.
We stayed for seven nights and Ann and Harry are perfect hosts providing just the right support for us to discover the best of the region. We would definitely recommend a visit.

We stayed at La Ribiere en route home from the south of France. Although we only stayed for three nights we wish we had stayed for more. We loved it.
It doesn't have a swimming pool or any real facilities for children but what it does have is acres of space and an opportunity to really relax. Having spent two weeks on a busier site in the south, our two children (aged five and seven) started to properly unwind by playing in the woods, reading more and just chilling out. At night the skies were amazing.
Chalus is worth a wander and is close by, but we didn't do too much other than walk and play with the kids. The toilets and washing up facilities are excellent.
Ann (a very good artist)and Harry (an electrician and Mr Handyman) were superb hosts. We really were made to feel welcome.
A genuinely lovely site.

Stayed for a few days and loved this place. Walking through the woods and seeing the wildlife was amazing. The hosts were fantastic and very welcoming. It was nice to go to English speaking people as they gave us tips on where to visit. Came upon the place by accident but would definitely recommend then to my friends and family. The place was very clean and tidy and I'm looking forward to going back later this year.

This was by far the best campsite we stayed in on a recent camping trip to France (of four in total). It is run by a British couple, and has been open about three years. There are a limited number of pitches but they are large and there is electricity and water at each pitch. There are four superb wetrooms, a washing up area with washing machine. Toilet paper, soap, washing-up liquid and detergent for the washing machien were all supplied, which wasn't the case in the other campsites we visited. The owners were relaxed about us having a fire (although they plan to install a firepit and BBQ area) and there was plenty of wood available in the adjacent woodland. The owners are very friendly and welcoming: we were met with a welcome drink and a fresh baguette appeared the next morning. There was only one other family there during our stay but as two of their boys were of a similar age to our two, they all had a whale of a time, and there was plenty of room for them to run about, although there was no playground as such. There are lovely paths through the woods, accessible right from the campsite. The closest town, Chalus, is a short drive away, but we didn't visit it. The area, on the edge of the Limousin-Perigord Regional park, is attractive and full of wildlife, beautiful walks, villages and other attractions, although we were only passing through en route to somewhere else and did not explore the area in the two days that were there.
There is also a furnished yurt on the property which might be ideal for a weekend break as the property is only 15-20 minutes from Limoges airport to which Ryanair operate flights in the summer.
The only two (slight) downsides to this campsite are a) some pitches lack shade and b) there is a perceptible and fairly continuous hum of traffic from the nearby N21. Although I didn't find it too intrusive, some might. Other than that, I would highly recommend his campsite to anyone who wants to chill out and relax, let the kids run wild and find their own entertainment, and doesn't like to be packed in with too many other people.
