When we needed to renew our old tent at the beginning of last year(2011)we wanted the Outwell Vermont XLP,but just couldnt afford to spend that kind of money on a tent when we are not sure how long the kids will actually want to still come with us,so after much research decided on the gelert beyond meridian 8 and we Love this tent.It pretty much has everything that we wanted,space,4 bedroom area's that can be adapted to everyones own needs,so if all of my family come camping(2 adults and our 4 children,12yrs,14yrs,18yrs, 21yrs)we use the bedroom divides and if it is just the 2 youngest kids with us we don't use the dividers and have 2 very large bedroom areas. The only thing I would say is the bedroom dividers could do with being a little bit bigger, and would benefit from being able to secure them more than you can.We also have the awning section also which is great as we use this as the kitchen area,so its completely under cover which we tent to need with the typical uk weather!the only bad point I can say about the awning is that the sides don't seem to be quite long enough,so there is a slight gap around the bottom ,would benefit from being 1 complete unit like the tent. But apart from that its great.Obviously you don't get all the little extra things like you do with the Outwells but what do you expect for the price.

What can I say that hasn't already been said about this tent, I love my Gelert meridian! So far we've been on 3 trips with it and I love it more each time. My husband has also stopped grumbling about camping which must be due to the outstanding tent design and little touches; pockets, toggles etc, that make this tent so good. We've had rain, wind and cold and this tent has kept us cosy and dry each time.
We also bought the groundsheet, porch and carpet and each adds that bit extra;
Groundsheet - less cleaning when we get home and it also makes it easier to put up as you can see where to put the poles and pegs!
Carpet - so cosy and comfy inside, although I do tend to start nagging about my 'no shoes on the carpet' policy
Porch - adds so much extra room to store kitchen things and those shoes that need to be removed! Of all the extras this is the one I'd most recommend getting with the tent, it is well worth the money.
We usually camp as a family of four but last weekend we went with my parents. I was a bit worried about us sharing one end with the kiddies but it was fine and there was still so much room inside the tent.
I'll also add that everyone has commented on how lovely our tent is when they see it or stay in it. I've now convinced my parents to get their own tent again (it'd been 15 years since they last went camping) and because I love mine so much, they're going to see what Gelert do as 4 berth tents.

We loved this tent, it was big enough living area, it was easy to put up, very easy to take down, no leaks as of yet ! Would definitely buy one of my own, the sewn in ground sheet is great and really does make a difference when you are out and its colder! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who has a big family.

We've had a Meridian 8 for 18 months and have used it many times for long weekends but more recently a week in North Devon.
This tent is extremely spacious and easily fits two adults, three kids and two dogs. We've recently added a canopy that fits over one of the doors - ideal as a cooking area, especially when raining or windy.
We find the tent really easy to put up, especially now we've had lots of practice. It copes with everything the English summer can throw at it and we can't recommend it highly enough.

First tent I brought with the sawn in ground sheet and I can say what a blessing. Loads of space inside to stretch your feet and relax, good ventilation which I feel is a must in any tent. We did have loads of rain when we went away, but this kept us warm and dry.
Brought a porch for it where I done all the cooking perfect for a windbreak too. It was easy to erect, I was a bit optimistic as this is the first tent I read and others mentioned it is easy to setup. How right they were!
This was the first tent I can say that actually fitted in the bag when we packed it up. Now that is a first for me.
I would also recommend the footprint, this is a must on any tent, as this also saves you the pain in removing the mud/stuff from the underside. We also purchased the carpet which does make it feel warmer. Trouble is now, as we have all this stuff, I need now to buy a trailer so if we decide to take anyone with us, they will have somewhere to sit :-).

We bought this tent in May this year ready for a weeks camping in Perranporth, Cornwall. When we arrived it was very wet and windy. This tent went up like a dream even in those conditions. As it was our first time with this tent it took us 45-55 mins to fully erect including sleeping areas, pegging etc. Previously we had an old canvas framed tent which, as sturdy as it was, took an age to put up and with 3 boys aged 9, 6 and 18 months was a nightmare. After erecting the tent the boys were able to play safely inside as we fully pegged and tightened the guys. We decided to purchase the porch as well to give us more space. It was an invaluable kitchen area and handy bike storage area whilst we were out exploring. The built in storage proved an added bonus and enabled us to keep the tent tidier. The bedrooms were huge and provided plenty of space for my boys and their clothes etc. We had the living area of the tent for our 'dining room' and we housed a large 6 seater table in there comfortably with plenty of space to spare. Having a front and back door was useful especially on very hot days, having both open with the fly nets closed, created a cool breeze.
I would recommend this tent highly not only to families with younger children, as it is so easy and quick to erect but to families with older children as it has plenty of space.

Early days! Only used once for two nights but first impressions very good. Easy to erect in less than an hour including footprint and porch. Pre-attached guy ropes make pegging out simple. Huge amount of space for my family of four. Plenty of room in living area for a table and 4 chairs plus other storage space. The porch was very helpful to store outdoor furniture and we also bought a carpet for the living area which made things very cosy when battened down for the night. Helpful storage compartments throughout. Vents in living area and bedroom compartments all adjustable - helpful for keeping out cold breezes at night. The bedroom compartments can be separated by a divider which we didn't need to use. Very simple to take down and fold back into the storage bags Gelert supply. Can't compare with other tents as this is our first family tent but so far we are very impressed and can't wait to go again.

Bought this tent last August but did not use last year. It has been used 4 times this year and 3 in North Wales and we took it to Brittany in July.
It is easy to put up - about half an hour once we were competent. We also got the canopy - excellent for outdoor cooking, storage, eating etc.
It is a very sturdy tent with no problems with wind, rain etc as long as the guy ropes are attached. In France we did not bother with most of the guys (ground too hard!) and had no problems with it!
The only tent we owned before was a Halfords one which leaked, so I did lots of research before buying this one. Main reasons for buying this were space - roomy bedrooms for kids & dogs - we have us 2 in one end, and separate the other end into 2 for our others, however 2 airbeds in one compartment mean no room for bags etc! still used a pup tent for 3rd teenager who wanted more privacy. We also bought this for the height - ie you can stand up in the centre and all the bedrooms.
The dividers also appeared to be a bit see through, so we have made a more opaque one for more privacy for the kids.
We also bought a footprint but had a problem also lining up the holes with the ones on the tent!
Minor niggle is that the stitching on one of the seams in the inner tent (the seam opposite the zip side) has started to pull apart - however I am hoping that Gelert will replace this.
I have no issue with the poles thay seem to be very fit for purpose, the tent has been up and down 6 times (a couple of times in the garden) and the poles are great.
When we took the tent down after 10 days in France there was a lot of water trapped between the footprint and the sewn in groundsheet - all I can think of was that it was condensation both inside & outside the outer tent running down and getting trapped between the 2 layers? (we had no rain and the pitch was bone dry)
Overall a great, spacious tent, I would recommend it. I have considered buying the Beyond Nebula 4 but it is a new tent this year and a bit pricey, thus opted for the Atlantis 5 and once I have been away in this (its for just the 2 of us and a dog) I will submit a review.

I've had tents of all shapes and sizes over the last forty years, but this is the best by far. Plenty of well-thought-out space and detail, stands up to high winds and downpours, easy to put up and strip down, can't find a thing I'd change. Thank you Gelert! PS The extra canopy you can buy is great, but the built-in mini-canopy (it's the door flap held up by the two poles and guy ropes provided) is very effective if you want to keep things to a minimum.
