I must have bought a very late model as mine has sewn in bathtub groundsheet all round. Withstood lousy weather on open Norfolk coastline campsite. The only gripe is no porch for side door if raining or poles for front canopy. When it comes to tent berth size the general rule would be to half the stated occupancy. Most are made in China.

This is our first tent and offers just the right combination of simplicity and space as we try our first few camping trips. For the first pitch it was just myself and my seven-year-old and we had it pitched within 30 minutes, with no problems whatsoever. Everything about the tent feels solid and well-made. We like the mesh inner doors, but it could do with a canopy over the side door.

I really like a lot of the details of this tent. The detachable bedroom is great, as are the high vis guy lines. I also appreciate the sizeable bag that means you can get it back in without vacuum packing it.

However, I am now on my second one which is now also broken. On the second trip with the first one I owned, the pegs bent and then a pole broke because of the extra pressure on the poles. We fixed the pole temporarily and re-pegged everything with stronger pegs. However, when we came back to the tent later in the day, it was wrecked heap on the floor.

The tent was replaced by the retailer and I put up the new one for the first time last weekend. In a slight breeze a pole broke with three of us putting it up. They break really easily at the ferrule where they have a natural bend. This seemed obvious to me but I figured that they knew better.

My other three tents have been Vangos of various sizes and I've owned them all for well over ten years and even with regular use they've fared well. It seems that new tents are designed to last as long anymore.

I'm hoping to get a refund and buy a different design. I don't like tunnel tents but seem unable to avoid in this price range. I will however go for one with just arched poles without the kink in the poles as this is clearly a point of weakness.

Just bought this from Go Outdoors and put it up in the garden. The mesh on the air-vents is too a large a weave and will let midges in so don't use this tent in Scotland or you will have a couple of thousand unwanted guests in your tent when you wake up in the morning! I wanted a smaller tent for weekend camping and went to Go outdoors to buy a small family size tent. It's the first tent I've bought in 20 years which has this problem. I can't believe they still make tents with this problem. I'm exchanging it for the Vango Icarus 500 which I wish I'd now bought - 140 round trip blah, blah blah.

It's put me right of Outwell for the next 20 years!

The tent itself wasn't too bad apart from lack of windows but I paid a sale price and certainly don't know how Outwell deserve the extra money they seem to charge. The Vango seemed a better tent and the newer version of the Outwell was another £100 more than the Vango.

This was our first tent purchase and six years later we are still using it. We paid £150 and have certainly got our money's worth.

In my opinion it could never sleep five and even 2 adults and two children is a push. It is perfect for a couple or a couple with one child for a short holiday as the living space is quite cramped, this is made worse by the slope at the front which means that the space in which you can stand up is quite limited. For longer trips we added a day tent which was a great solution before we had the money to upgrade.

It is easy to pitch and it has stood up to wind and rain. In very heavy rain some water does get in at the front due to a lack of SIG but not an amount that makes it a problem. On a cold windy night it is perhaps not as snug as I would like and if we buy another smaller tent I will get one with a ZIG or similar. This would also stop our dog from escaping.

The organiser pockets are very useful as are the choice of doors. When it is windy we only use the side door but in the sun we open the front. I like the window areas at the front as well which let in some light.

In summary I think it is an ideal starter tent for a couple or a family with one child.

Great all rounder tent good space for 2 adults and 2 very young children (not so great when they start walking !)

Only complaint is that the bottom of the door flap ripped in a storm and two poles snapped.Easily replaced and easily sown up.

Outwell customer service are non existent in the UK and their head office are very unhelpful.

Would I buy another Outwell tent probably not ! Plenty of choice out there.

Just posted a picture of my Oregon 5 with my Vango Icarus 500 front extension. The Oregon 5 is a great weekend tent but if you're going for longer it's useful to have some extra space. As Outwell don't make an extension we'd been looking for a while and eventually bought a Vango Icarus 500 front extension from Go Outdoors (in the sale) for £79. It fits like it was made for the tent and adds loads of extra space!

We bought this tent as we wanted to downsize whilst still being able to stand up and have space for cooking equipment and chairs etc. It has certainly stood up to our expectations. We don't travel light, and I have to say this tent fits everything we need inside perfectly. Granted there are just the two of us, but we find we have ample room for a large table, a camp kitchen, two chairs and a smaller table in the living area, and plenty of space for sleeping comfortably and bags/personal belongings in the bedroom which we open into one large area. The mesh pockets in the tent provide a handy storage system, and it is very handy to have the option of two doors in the living area, especially when hot as it creates an air flow.

On our most recent trip to Scotland (end of June 2010) we experienced the worst gales we could ever hope to whilst camping. We were extremely worried we may end up losing the tent while we were out or coming back to find it ripped. I am pleased to say neither happened so I have to award 10 out of 10 for that alone as it was an entire weeks worth of strong gusts day and night. With that came torrential rain and we did not find a drop inside the tent. Everything was kept nice and dry. We did however put extra guy ropes on the tent to help with the wind,so would definitely recommend having quite a few spare.

The tent takes us around 30 minutes to pitch in good weather, and is an easy 3 pole system.

I have to agree with some of the comments made about the ground sheet in the living area. On the third use two of the tabs ripped off which meant that we now have to weight the sheet down in various places, and it is a bit fiddly to put down generally. We also find that if on a slope the fixed ground sheet in the bedroom tends to move and puts stress on the seams and zips. The slope of the front door does also mean a waste of space when inside with the door shut as there is not much you can put there.

All in all a super tent that does exactly what we need it to that is easy to put down (except in force 11 gales!)and store away. However I would agree that five people would be a squeeze, so would recommend for two adults and two children.

My husband and I bought this so we could have somewhere to sit on longer holidays when it rained! Previously had a 2-man tent that you can just about kneel in.

Pros:

- Dayglo guy ropes (I haven't tripped over one yet!)

- Plenty of space for the two of us (we keep the bedroom divider rolled up to make one big room)

- Can easily sit in evenings in comfort

- Has withstood several extremely windy nights where I thought we would take off

- Had it 3 or 4 years now and no manufacturing faults / problems (yet)

Cons:

- groundsheet very fiddly to peg in and easy to rip when just walking on it as it moves around (one like the Vango Venture 500 that clips onto the flysheet would be better)

- difficult to pitch in an un-wonky way! It often doesn't look right - and we are very experienced tent-pitchers!

- really irritating straps to peg in the back: they aren't adjustable, which means you can't pull the back corners taut

- would like a loop to peg down the skirt at the front

- no option of mesh door instead of solid one into bedrooms (again, the Vango has this)

- the gradual slope of the front does mean quite a lot of wasted space - it needs to be steeper

All in all, we are quite pleased with it and can live with the niggles. These will help me next time we buy a tent, at least! Will research awning poles after reading other reviews as didn't know they made them and we have always said it needs some. In short, if they combined this with the Vango Venture 500 (which also has great features but irritating niggles), they could make a fantastic tent!

We bought this tent to replace our old heavy frame tent and have found this tent much better. Very quick and easy to put up and take down, so important for us as we are mature campers. Plenty of space for the two of us, we use the smaller sleeping area for clothes and other luggage and the living area is ample. We did find two manufacturing faults, some missed stitches on two of the seams and have just had to put up with them as Outwell cannot be contacted and the shop was quite a distance to return it to. They have not caused any problems though and we have used the tent in some very poor weather. We have always been dry and warm and no condensation. Love the way it all opens up in hot weather. Used it for two fortnights in France and it will going again next year.
